Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martin Esten’s Quest for Spiritual Self-Reliance focuses on what the author calls "the ongoing movement of meditation." Martin presents probing insights into issues such as meditation, love, relationships, spirituality, and the nature of thought. He shows that, paradoxically, all of our problems in life are created by thinking and identification with what he has termed the little "me." The path to true and enduring freedom is shown to be a counter-intuitive process that can only be understood by setting aside one's analytical mind and ego and by simply being aware of one’s self, “you start to see the mechanics of things, and by seeing the mechanics of things, you will become non-mechanical, and to be non-mechanical is to be finally free.” This book is meant to be a journey that the reader can take with the writer, and perhaps, along the way, the reader will find out who he or she really is beyond all mechanics of the conditioned mind. Although the journey is not easy, Martin shows us again and again that is in our nature to undertake it.

Book excerpt: Whether seeking recognition, spirituality, or some other kind of self improvement, we are endlessly striving to become something 'better'. But even if we obtain what we are looking for, we cannot refrain from creating another quest. Always driven to distraction in pursuit of our goals, we have never been able to enjoy-or even live-the life that was ours. In The Seeking Self, the author suggests that self-transformation can only occur if we are able to stop interfering with the experience of who we naturally are.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theres more to inheriting eternal life than what many of us have been told. Depending upon your level of spiritual commitment, this statement may or may not mean anything to you. But it means everything to me. Why? It is because eternal life represents the progressive alternative to endless death, the only other potential final destination of my soul. Therefore, as the soul shall subsist forever, securing eternal life should be the primary objective of every progressive existence. At the same time, many have been deceived into believing that inheriting eternal life is as easy as saying a simple prayer or having an undeveloped, meager level of faith. Still, the reality is that inheriting eternal life [i.e. the greatest prize of all time] will naturally require the greatest investment of all time a life dedicated to the will of the Father which is the basis of progressive spiritualism. Accordingly, the scriptures teach us For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? [See Matthew 16:25-26]. In my opinion, any honest person would come to this conclusion and would rightfully (as well as willfully) desire to make the necessary investment required to obtain the prize of eternal life. The problem is that many honest believers havent been told the whole story and are preparing to go to the Judgment with many of their works undone. Consequently, the question of the hour is simply this what more is there to the story? Conclusively, the answers to this inquiry are found within this volume of The Pinnacle of Holiness. Building off the former volume which provides a high-level description of the path which leads to eternal life, this volume will focus on providing detailed information about the path. Thus it should be viewed as a spiritual training manual which each sojourner soldier can employ to ensure that they are abiding by every criterion associated with inheriting eternal life. In the end (and with regards to the delicate matter of eternal life), the most critical factors are the instructions which the Father has revealed to us by His Spirit and recorded within His Word. Definitively, these spiritual and scriptural disclosures are contained within this volume. As the scriptures have said, And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from History; Self-Reliance; Nature; Spiritual Laws; The American Scholar OF the five complete productions of Emer son which appear in this volume, three self-reliance, and Spiritual Laws) are chosen from the first series of his Essays, published in 1841. The essay on Nature, reprinted here, was first published in the second series of Essays in 1844, and is not to be confused with the more enig matic essay on Nature, in eight brief books, which appeared in 1836. The later essay is based, after a fashion, upon the first, but it is more winning in its method. These four representative papers are followed by the famous Phi Beta Kappa address of 1837 on The American Scholar; an oration which Lowell declared to be an event with out any parallel in our literary annals, and which Hdlmes characterized as our intel lectual Declaration of Independence. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than 100,000 copies sold! Millions of Americans know yoga as a superb form of exercise and as a potent source of calm in the midst of our stress-filled lives. Far fewer are aware of the full promise of yoga as "the way of the fully alive human being"--a 4,000-year-old practical path of liberation that fits the needs of modern Western seekers with startling precision. Now one of America's leading scholars of yoga psychology--who is also a Western-trained psychotherapist--offers this marvelously lively and personal account of an ancient tradition that promises "the soul awake in this lifetime." Drawing on the vivid stories of practitioners at the largest yoga center in America, where he has lived and taught for more than ten years, Stephen Cope describes the philosophy, psychology, and practice of yoga--a practical science of development that urges us not to transcend or dissolve the self, but rather to encounter it more deeply. In this irreverent modern-day Pilgrim's Progress, Cope introduces us to an unforgettable cast of contemporary seekers--on the road to enlightenment carrying all the baggage of the human condition: confusion, loss, disappointment, addiction, and the eternal conflicts around sex and relationship. As he describes the subtle shifts of energy and consciousness that happen at each stage of the path, we discover that in yoga, "liberation" does not require us to leave life in the world for some transcendent spiritual plane. Life itself is the path. Above all, Cope shows how yoga can heal the suffering of self-estrangement that pervades our society, leading us to a new sense of purpose and to a deeper, more satisfying life in the world.

Praise for Discovering the Mind of a Woman: "I am glad for this book. After fifty-five years of Christian marriage, I find thoughts here that will help me be more thoughtful of my wife's needs. It has helped me understand why and how she thinks differently than I do about so many things. A husband, as this book points out, is to live with and love his wife with understanding. This change in a husband and the consequent response by a wife result in life-changing home life, and together radiate to many others, for the glory of Christ." --Kenneth N. Taylor, translator of The Living Bible

Or make progress in my spiritual life? Why do I fall for the same stupid temptations over and over again? When we fail, its easy to make excuses or blame our circumstances. But let’s face it: the biggest enemy is usually the one staring back at us from the mirror every morning. We lack self-control. Self-control isn’t very popular these days. We tend to think of it as boring, confining, the cop that shows up and shuts down the party. But the truth is that people who cultivate this vital virtue lead freer, happier, and more meaningful lives. After all, our bad habits—from the slight to the serious—bring a host of painful consequences. Ultimately, they keep us from becoming the people God created us to be. Your Future Self Will Thank You is a compassionate and humorous guide to breaking bad habits and growing your willpower. It explores Scripture’s teachings on how to live a disciplined life while offering practical strategies for growth based on the science of self-control. Whether you want to deepen your spiritual life, conquer an addiction, or kick your nail-biting habit, this book will help you get motivated, stay on track, and achieve your goals. Sure, self-control is hard, but it doesn’t have to be that hard. Get the help you need to be freer, happier, and more productive. Your future self will thank you!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book empowers the reader to awaken his inner power by providing psychological and metaphysical tools for improving their life. Humans should undertake the power dwelling in them and become active co-creators of their personal and social environment. The book is a necessary component in a materialistic post-modern consumeristic society. It focuses on removing the self-loathing ideas imposed by religious organizations and mass media. Moreover, it offers a plausible and coherent theory that answers the old-honored predicament of finding the true purpose of human existence. Blending ideas from philosophers with the popular wisdom of native folklore, Occidental and Oriental sacred scriptures, sociology, metaphysics, philosophy (existentialism), and modern quantum physics, this book reveals that humans should actively participate in the awakening of their consciousness. Having no purpose in life can lead people to a deep psychological depression called existential anxiety. Thus, ignoring the role of man’s importance in the drama of the universe, the lack of a myth or meaning could be tragic and detrimental. Since the dawn of civilization, humans have taken for granted or assumed that they had an inherent purpose in life by being born, which turned out to be a big fallacy. In addition, humans have been brainwashed and domesticated by false ideas creating a herd mentality by the ruling elite. Under these circumstances, how do we humans find authentic meaning in what seems to be a senseless life? Modern philosophy has become increasingly abstract and separate from human beings, unable to offer positive guidance to ordinary people. Finding a purpose in human existence is the primary motivational force for human existence. The ultimate purpose of human existence is to become a conscious god.

Book excerpt: This book brings together academic scholars from across various religious traditions to reflect on the beauty they find in traditions other than their own. They examine these aspects and reflect on how they inform and constructively assist with rethinking their own religious worldviews and practices. Each scholar investigates the various implications, questions, insights, and challenges that are generated in the process of doing so. Traditions discussed include Ásatrú Heathenism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Evangelical Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, LDS Mormon Christianity, Lutheranism, Presbyterianism, Sikhism, Sufism, Western Buddhism, and Zen Mahāyāna Buddhism. Instead of focusing only or primarily on the theory and practice of interreligious dialogue, this book presents living examples of learning from other religious traditions, identities, and persons.
