Book Synopsis Priest-King of the Warriors and Witch-Queen of the Others by : Michal Cigán

This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My sisters have been in a magical slumber for centuries, my mother, the last great battle queen is dead, leaving me to face the world alone. I’m the last of my kind. A queen, not entirely shifter and not entirely witch but a perfect blend of both. I’ve been living in hiding for over four hundred years, avoiding ties with the supernatural community, specifically the Council and the Alpha of all alphas, like the plague. That is, until I find myself challenging for alpha of the New England pack in front of both the shifter and witch communities. Now, I’m the leader of both. Fuck, I’m the leader of both. I’ve put myself square in the Council’s sight, my time in hiding forcibly over. But the Council is the least of my problems. Malick, the oldest Archdemon to walk the earth, is still alive despite my mother's best efforts. His legion growing in number by the day. I may want to keep myself and my new community away from his legion, but I know that the only way we’ll ever be safe is to kill him. Countless queens have tried. All of them failing even with their alpha dragon mates and supernatural communities. I’m going to have to work with the Alpha, Caleb, and the Council if I want to end Malick and wipe out his legion for good. Unfortunately, Caleb also happens to be my mate, as in soulmate, together forever, never to be parted, partners in crime. I know that he won’t let me go after we’ve finished wiping Malick from the face of the earth. But I refuse to be subject to the Council’s control. I also need to find a way to wake my sisters because what’s coming for us is far worse than Malick and there are no guarantees there will be any survivors.

Book Synopsis Ralph Azham Vol. 1 by : Lewis Trondheim
Download or read book Ralph Azham Vol. 1 written by Lewis Trondheim and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-06-28 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the award-winning mind of cartoonist Lewis Trondheim comes the expansive and rich anthropomorphic medieval world of Ralph Azham. After failing the test of the Chosen One as a young duck, Ralph had a tough time growing up as the village pariah, often getting into trouble due to an innate extra sense that’s rather unbelievable, embarrassing, and unfortunate. That was only compounded by the constant visit of spirits that only he, Ralph, could see. Cut to today, his village is threatened by a vicious Horde, an apocalyptic flood may take the life of Ralph's only supporter, his father, and the Wise Men's Counsel are out for Ralph's hide after rumors he had his way with one of their daughters. Ultimately Ralph must leave the village and unlock the secrets of his childhood as he journeys to the Kingdom of Astolia, but not before he takes a young ward, Raoul, who bears an uncanny similarity to Ralph. It's a sprawling story of fathers and their sons, magic, mysticism, with plenty of action, adventure, and signature Trondheim madcap humor.
Book Synopsis Queens of the Wild by : Ronald Hutton
Download or read book Queens of the Wild written by Ronald Hutton and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise history of the goddess-like figures who evade both Christian and pagan traditions, from the medieval period to the present day In this riveting account, renowned scholar Ronald Hutton explores the history of deity-like figures in Christian Europe. Drawing on anthropology, archaeology, literature, and history, Hutton shows how hags, witches, the Fairy Queen, and the Green Man all came to be, and how they changed over the centuries. Looking closely at four main figures--Mother Earth, the Fairy Queen, the Mistress of the Night, and the Old Woman of Gaelic tradition--Hutton challenges decades of debate around the female figures who have long been thought versions of pre-Christian goddesses. He makes the compelling case that these goddess figures found in the European imagination did not descend from the pre-Christian ancient world, yet have nothing Christian about them. It was in fact nineteenth-century scholars who attempted to establish the narrative of pagan survival that persists today.

Book Synopsis Demonizing the Queen of Sheba by : Jacob Lassner
Download or read book Demonizing the Queen of Sheba written by Jacob Lassner and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1993-12-14 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the centuries, Jewish and Muslim writers transformed the biblical Queen of Sheba from a clever, politically astute sovereign to a demonic force threatening the boundaries of gender. In this book, Jacob Lassner shows how successive retellings of the biblical story reveal anxieties about gender and illuminate the processes of cultural transmission. The Bible presents the Queen of Sheba's encounter with King Solomon as a diplomatic mission: the queen comes "to test him with hard questions," all of which he answers to her satisfaction; she then praises him and, after an exchange of gifts, returns to her own land. By the Middle Ages, Lassner demonstrates, the focus of the queen's visit had shifted from international to sexual politics. The queen was now portrayed as acting in open defiance of nature's equilibrium and God's design. In these retellings, the authors humbled the queen and thereby restored the world to its proper condition. Lassner also examines the Islamization of Jewish themes, using the dramatic accounts of Solomon and his female antagonist as a test case of how Jewish lore penetrated the literary imagination of Muslims. Demonizing the Queen of Sheba thus addresses not only specialists in Jewish and Islamic studies, but also those concerned with issues of cultural transmission and the role of gender in history.
