Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The synthesis of new phosphorus-containing polymers expected to have high thermal stability was the object of this research. Accompanying this effort has been a study of model compounds and prototype reactions, to obtain information on bond formation and bond stability. Among phosphorus-containing compounds, those containing the P-C-P linkage have unusual thermal stability. For example, several methylene and phenylene bis diphenylphosphine oxides are stable to 425-450 C (797-842 F). For this reason, the preparation of p-c-p type polYmers by addition and condensation reactions using a variety of monomers under Widely varied conditions was attempted. Fundamental studies of the chemistry of P-C compounds are described. Reorganization studies indicated that the CeHs-P bond is probably stable to at least 400 C. Polymers of the polyamide type with phosphorus in the backbone are described. Some prepared from a bibenzimidazole were stable to 425-450 C. (797-842 F), albeit of low molecular weight. Model compounds containing the phosphorus-imidazole bond showed stabilities as high as 500 C. (932 F).

Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

Book Synopsis Inorganic Polyphosphates by : Heinz C. Schröder
Download or read book Inorganic Polyphosphates written by Heinz C. Schröder and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inorganic polyphosphates - polymers of orthophosphate linked by high-energy phosphoanhydride bonds - have been found in apparently all forms of life, from bacteria, yeasts and fungi to higher plants and animals. These polymers, which had been neglected for a long time, have become a fascinating area of research in the last few years. This volume summarizes the present state of knowledge about the metabolism and function of inorganic polyphosphates. In addition, the methods to study these polymers as well as the biotechnological applications of inorganic polyphosphates are described. The 15 chapters of this volume, dealing with different aspects of polyphosphate research, are written by experts in the field. This book represents a valuable source of information not only for researchers working on this subject, but also for scientists interested in fundamental aspects of cell and energy metabolism.
Book Synopsis Phosphorus in Environmental Technology by : E. Valsami-Jones
Download or read book Phosphorus in Environmental Technology written by E. Valsami-Jones and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2004-05-31 with total page 681 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phosphorus in Environmental Technology: Principles and Applications, provides a definitive and detailed presentation of state-of-the-art knowledge on the environmental behaviour of phosphorus and its applications to the treatment of waters and soils. Special attention is given to phosphorus removal for recovery technologies, a concept that has emerged over the past 5-6 years. The book features an all-encompassing approach: the fundamental science of phosphorus (chemistry, geochemistry, mineralogy, biology), key aspects of its environmental behaviour and mobility, industrial applications (treatment, removal, recovery) and the principles behind such applications, novel biotechnologies and, importantly, it also addresses socio-economic issues which often influence implementation and the ultimate success of any new technology. A detailed subject index helps the reader to find their way through the different scientific and technological aspects covered, making it an invaluable reference work for students, professionals and consultants dealing with phosphorus-related environmental technologies. State-of-the-art knowledge on the behaviour of phosphorus and its applications to environmental science and technology. Covers all aspects of phosphorus in the environment, engineered and biological systems; an interdisciplinary text.

Book Synopsis Polymer Science and Engineering by : National Research Council
Download or read book Polymer Science and Engineering written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymers are used in everything from nylon stockings to commercial aircraft to artificial heart valves, and they have a key role in addressing international competitiveness and other national issues. Polymer Science and Engineering explores the universe of polymers, describing their properties and wide-ranging potential, and presents the state of the science, with a hard look at downward trends in research support. Leading experts offer findings, recommendations, and research directions. Lively vignettes provide snapshots of polymers in everyday applications. The volume includes an overview of the use of polymers in such fields as medicine and biotechnology, information and communication, housing and construction, energy and transportation, national defense, and environmental protection. The committee looks at the various classes of polymersâ€"plastics, fibers, composites, and other materials, as well as polymers used as membranes and coatingsâ€"and how their composition and specific methods of processing result in unparalleled usefulness. The reader can also learn the science behind the technology, including efforts to model polymer synthesis after nature's methods, and breakthroughs in characterizing polymer properties needed for twenty-first-century applications. This informative volume will be important to chemists, engineers, materials scientists, researchers, industrialists, and policymakers interested in the role of polymers, as well as to science and engineering educators and students.
Book Synopsis Radiation Protection and Management of NORM Residues in the Phosphate Industry by : International Atomic Energy Agency
Download or read book Radiation Protection and Management of NORM Residues in the Phosphate Industry written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Safety Report is a compilation of detailed information on the processes and materials associated with the phosphate industry and on the radiological considerations that need to be taken into account by the regulatory body when determining the nature and extent of radiation protection measures. It has been developed as part of the IAEA's programme on the application of its safety standards in the field of radiation, transport and waste safety. The information provided will assist in the implementation of a graded approach to regulation, in terms of which the application of the requirements of the safety standards is commensurate with the characteristics of the practice or source and with the magnitude and likelihood of the exposures. The publication also provides information on expected radionuclide concentrations, exposure levels and the most appropriate regulatory approach in the phosphate industry and covers the mining and beneficiation of phosphate ore, phosphoric acid production, phosphogypsum, and the manufacture and use of phosphatic fertilizers among others.
