Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ideas come from unexpected moments of inactivity. The pandemic created lots of free time to ponder and wonder, and often the mind was plagued with thoughts. The inspiration came from Facebook’s caption page, “What’s on your mind?.” Initially, it started as simple quotes, a few “likes” and comments, but grew into “Quarantine Reflections.” The editing and photography for the book was done by my son, Jordan who had just finished a study abroad program at Osaka University, Japan, and graduated with a B.A. from University of California, Riverside. It was a great way of inculcating the values of engagement, resilience, and vision. The pandemic has brought the toughest challenge in a generation, but has also brought the greatest stories of heroism, resiliency, camaraderie, and human dependency. As you ponder on the various thoughts in this book, it is hoped you will find, feel, and dwell on the things that influence us as humans, or the mantras to build character, integrity, and passion. The charge is to seize every opportunity in life as a call to make a difference.

Book excerpt: A pandemic made us all sad, mute and tremble with fear. We locked the entire world one day and isolated ourselves from each other. This book Thoughts Unlocked - Lockdown Days Musings is a perfect riposte to a pandemic that has rendered the humans voiceless. Writer Sreenivasan ruminates on how the pandemic made a larger impact on his life and those around him. It would give the reader an insight into how a human mind works when, one day, the world closes all its doors and puts us all under house arrest. This book tells the stories of the past, present and future. It seems autobiographical and fictitious at times. It may lack in order of things, but is written in a language that is lucid, mild, straight and with a grand touch of humour. The thoughts the writer shares here would create in every reader a ponderous urgency to look back to the lives we had in the past. This book is a definite read and should be a great help in the freeing of our thoughts and presumptions.

Book excerpt: A global pandemic has America under quarantine. In a run-down apartment building, with nowhere to go and nothing to do, five people-a philosopher, an academic, a filmmaker, a sculptor, and a philanthropist-come together, at first only for the pleasure of company. But then they find themselves in a ferocious debate about the obsessions that drive their lives and a ruthless quest to discover the secrets that brought them together. Their passions and betrayals play out against the dangerous backdrop of a state-enforced lockdown and a disease that can strike anyone at any time. The eventually explosive conflicts among these poor artists, underfed intellectuals, and desperate fanatics pose urgent questions of art and inequality, health and freedom, faith and power, love and death. The Quarantine of St. Sebastian House is at once a Platonic dialogue, a poem in prose, and a suspenseful story of mystery and romance: a fresh narrative for a new era.

Book excerpt: Schools closed indefinitely....The economy spiraling into recession.....People losing jobs.....The world in a global pandemic. This reality framed the lives of everyone on the planet during the first half of 2020. Ironically, New Year's Eve brought the usual hopes and resolutions of renewal and aspirations for a new decade. However, over the span of several weeks in the United States, there was no rebirth or renewal. There was death, despair and a looming fear of uncertainty associated with a novel virus called COVID-19 Coronavirus. The virus started in the Wuhan Hubei Province of China in the fall of 2019 but quickly spread to all parts of the globe. By March 2020, much of the United States was literally "shutdown" to adhere to "shelter in place" orders at federal, state, and local levels to slow the spread of the virus. By early April, the United States was the epicenter for the virus and deaths were mounting daily. Ayana and Marshall, representing a typical suburban American family, was no different from any other in the United States. Their lives came to a grinding pause. They still had each other and that is the most important thing. What they didn't have were daily school routines, commutes to work, volleyball tournaments, 7-on-7-football practice, or even trips to the mall. Marshall is a professor and research meteorologist at the University of Georgia. Ayana is a former management consultant for a firm in the Washington, D.C. area who manages the household, leads a Girl Scout Troop, and presides over the local high school volleyball booster club. Their teenage daughter plays volleyball, is on the student council, and active in many service organizations. Their preteen son is a typical Fortnite, NBA2K, sports-playing kid. It's a good family with all of the ups and downs of four different personalities under one roof. For several weeks, this family unit sheltered in place. Ayana and Marshall, representing a typical suburban American family, were no different from any other in the United States. Their lives came to a grinding pause during the Coronavirus "Quarantine." Ayana chronicled her thoughts in a daily Facebook post. From this social media diary, the authors captured and expanded upon their experiences and decided to share them others. Within these pages, Ayana and Marshall offer the "good, bad, and ugly" of lockdown while offering lessons learned, interpretations, and opportunities for the reader to engage and self-reflect. How much of your life do you see in their experience? All proceeds, beyond printing costs, to benefit local organizations supporting families and students.

Book excerpt: ABOUT THE BOOK After reading the draft manuscript of this book, Rev. Mary Ramerman astutely observed, "When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, we were asked to observe social distance and stay home. Vacations, weddings, trips to the mall, dinners out, and baseball games all ended. We were literally sent to our rooms to reflect on how we lived our lives and what mattered most to us." The collective wisdom presented in this anthology provides answers to those two important questions. Writers offer a wealth of ideas, shared wisdom, action steps, inspiring stories, and candid looks at real-life situations. The reader will find insights that come from the other side of pain, in people and events affirming hope, perseverance and resilience, as well as a candid record of life in the early days of this pandemic and the challenges before us.

Book excerpt: The time of the COVID-19 Pandemic was a time of quarantine and isolation for many people, causing much loneliness and sadness. As an Associate Minister and a member of a few ministries in my church, I felt led to try to bring some encouragement and inspiration to the members of these ministries. And so, with the aid and anointing of the Holy Spirit, I began frequently sending these short messages to the ministries via e-mail. Those messages have resulted in the compilation of this present work. They are my thoughts, reflections, musings, and meditations during the year-long period of quarantine, isolation and restrictions. However, the majority of these reflections are not merely my thoughts, but they are scripturally based, backed by the Word of God. Some of them may be considered Sermonettes. For example, let's take a look at one of the readings dated April 1, 2020 and entitled "In the Valley." Psalm 23:4 says "Yea though I walk through the valley and the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." Because of this Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are most certainly in a valley right now. Sickness and death are all around us. Nevertheless, the operative phrase in this verse is: "THROUGH THE VALLEY" with emphasis on the word, "THROUGH." Yes the situation seems dark right now; it's frightening and scary, but it's also temporary. We shall not stay in this valley. We can put our CONFIDENCE in the Lord of the valley, believe that He will lead us THROUGH this valley. Also, we are not alone in this valley, for the Lord of the valley is with us. He is our COMPANY-KEEPER, and if we can look away from the scary shadows and focus on the company-keeper, the author and finisher of our faith, He will keep us by His grace and mercy, and we know that His grace is sufficient, and His mercy endures forever. Finally, this verse not only gives us confidence and a company-keeper, but it promises COMFORT, and this comfort comes from the Lord of the valley's Rod and His staff--the Written Word and the Living Word. The Written Word (the Bible) with its promises of provision and protection is our source of comfort, and the Living Word, who is Jesus, our Shepherd, leads us THROUGH this valley. "Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He will strengthen our heart. WAIT, I SAY, ON THE LORD!" (Psalm 27:14). In April of 2020, many folk were becoming so anxious, so devastated, and actually fearful of what was happening, I was led to try to help people understand that they were not alone, and that they would get through it in God's time. Although, at this writing, we are almost completely through that valley, it is my prayer that these readings will continue to strengthen you and comfort you in any other "valley" you may find yourself going through.
