Book Synopsis Quantum Stochastic Processes and Noncommutative Geometry by : Kalyan B. Sinha
Download or read book Quantum Stochastic Processes and Noncommutative Geometry written by Kalyan B. Sinha and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-25 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classical theory of stochastic processes has important applications arising from the need to describe irreversible evolutions in classical mechanics; analogously quantum stochastic processes can be used to model the dynamics of irreversible quantum systems. Noncommutative, i.e. quantum, geometry provides a framework in which quantum stochastic structures can be explored. This book is the first to describe how these two mathematical constructions are related. In particular, key ideas of semigroups and complete positivity are combined to yield quantum dynamical semigroups (QDS). Sinha and Goswami also develop a general theory of Evans-Hudson dilation for both bounded and unbounded coefficients. The unique features of the book, including the interaction of QDS and quantum stochastic calculus with noncommutative geometry and a thorough discussion of this calculus with unbounded coefficients, will make it of interest to graduate students and researchers in functional analysis, probability and mathematical physics.

Book Synopsis Quantum Probability for Probabilists by : Paul-Andre Meyer
Download or read book Quantum Probability for Probabilists written by Paul-Andre Meyer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes contain all the material accumulated over six years in Strasbourg to teach "Quantum Probability" to myself and to an audience of commutative probabilists. The text, a first version of which appeared in successive volumes of the Seminaire de Probabilite8, has been augmented and carefully rewritten, and translated into international English. Still, it remains true "Lecture Notes" material, and I have resisted suggestions to publish it as a monograph. Being a non-specialist, it is important for me to keep the moderate right to error one has in lectures. The origin of the text also explains the addition "for probabilists" in the title : though much of the material is accessible to the general public, I did not care to redefine Brownian motion or the Ito integral. More precisely than "Quantum Probability" , the main topic is "Quantum Stochastic Calculus" , a field which has recently got official recognition as 81825 in the Math.

Book Synopsis Lectures on Probability Theory by : Dominique Bakry
Download or read book Lectures on Probability Theory written by Dominique Bakry and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 429 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains work-outs of the notes of three 15-hour courses of lectures which constitute surveys on the concerned topics given at the St. Flour Probability Summer School in July 1992. The first course, by D. Bakry, is concerned with hypercontractivity properties and their use in semi-group theory, namely Sobolev and Log Sobolev inequa- lities, with estimations on the density of the semi-groups. The second one, by R.D. Gill, is about statistics on survi- val analysis; it includes product-integral theory, Kaplan- Meier estimators, and a look at cryptography and generation of randomness. The third one, by S.A. Molchanov, covers three aspects of random media: homogenization theory, loca- lization properties and intermittency. Each of these chap- ters provides an introduction to and survey of its subject.
Book Synopsis Topological Methods for Variational Problems with Symmetries by : Thomas Bartsch
Download or read book Topological Methods for Variational Problems with Symmetries written by Thomas Bartsch and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Symmetry has a strong impact on the number and shape of solutions to variational problems. This has been observed, for instance, in the search for periodic solutions of Hamiltonian systems or of the nonlinear wave equation; when one is interested in elliptic equations on symmetric domains or in the corresponding semiflows; and when one is looking for "special" solutions of these problems. This book is concerned with Lusternik-Schnirelmann theory and Morse-Conley theory for group invariant functionals. These topological methods are developed in detail with new calculations of the equivariant Lusternik-Schnirelmann category and versions of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem for very general classes of symmetry groups. The Morse-Conley theory is applied to bifurcation problems, in particular to the bifurcation of steady states and hetero-clinic orbits of O(3)-symmetric flows; and to the existence of periodic solutions nearequilibria of symmetric Hamiltonian systems. Some familiarity with the usualminimax theory and basic algebraic topology is assumed.
Book Synopsis Real Functions - Current Topics by : Vasile Ene
Download or read book Real Functions - Current Topics written by Vasile Ene and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most books devoted to the theory of the integral have ignored the nonabsolute integrals, despite the fact that the journal literature relating to these has become richer and richer. The aim of this monograph is to fill this gap, to perform a study on the large number of classes of real functions which have been introduced in this context, and to illustrate them with many examples. This book reports on some recent advances in the theory of real functions and can serve as a textbook for a course in the subject, and to stimulate further research in this exciting field.

Book Synopsis Similarity Problems and Completely Bounded Maps by : Gilles Pisier
Download or read book Similarity Problems and Completely Bounded Maps written by Gilles Pisier and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes revolve around three similarity problems, appearing in three dif ferent contexts, but all dealing with the space B(H) of all bounded operators on a complex Hilbert space H. The first one deals with group representations, the second one with C* -algebras and the third one with the disc algebra. We describe them in detail in the introduction which follows. This volume is devoted to the background necessary to understand these three open problems, to the solutions that are known in some special cases and to numerous related concepts, results, counterexamples or extensions which their investigation has generated. For instance, we are naturally lead to study various Banach spaces formed by the matrix coefficients of group representations. Furthermore, we discuss the closely connected Schur multipliers and Grothendieck's striking characterization of those which act boundedly on B(H). While the three problems seem different, it is possible to place them in a common framework using the key concept of "complete boundedness", which we present in detail. In some sense, completely bounded maps can also be viewed as spaces of "coefficients" of C*-algebraic representations, if we allow "B(H) valued coefficients", this is the content of the fundamental factorization property of these maps, which plays a central role in this volume. Using this notion, the three problems can all be formulated as asking whether "boundedness" implies "complete boundedness" for linear maps satisfying cer tain additional algebraic identities.
Book Synopsis Topics in the Theory of Riemann Surfaces by : Robert D.M. Accola
Download or read book Topics in the Theory of Riemann Surfaces written by Robert D.M. Accola and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book's main concern is automorphisms of Riemann surfaces, giving a foundational treatment from the point of view of Galois coverings, and treating the problem of the largest automorphism group for a Riemann surface of a given genus. In addition, the extent to which fixed points of automorphisms are generalized Weierstrass points is considered. The extremely useful inequality of Castelnuovo- Severi is also treated. While the methods are elementary, much of the material does not appear in the current texts on Riemann surfaces, algebraic curves. The book is accessible to a reader who has had an introductory course on the theory of Riemann surfaces or algebraic curves.
Book Synopsis Polynomial Mappings by : Wladyslaw Narkiewicz
Download or read book Polynomial Mappings written by Wladyslaw Narkiewicz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with certain algebraic and arithmetical questions concerning polynomial mappings in one or several variables. Algebraic properties of the ring Int(R) of polynomials mapping a given ring R into itself are presented in the first part, starting with classical results of Polya, Ostrowski and Skolem. The second part deals with fully invariant sets of polynomial mappings F in one or several variables, i.e. sets X satisfying F(X)=X . This includes in particular a study of cyclic points of such mappings in the case of rings of algebrai integers. The text contains several exercises and a list of open problems.
Book Synopsis Elliptic Genera and Vertex Operator Super-Algebras by : Hirotaka Tamanoi
Download or read book Elliptic Genera and Vertex Operator Super-Algebras written by Hirotaka Tamanoi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-06-21 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph deals with two aspects of the theory of elliptic genus: its topological aspect involving elliptic functions, and its representation theoretic aspect involving vertex operator super-algebras. For the second aspect, elliptic genera are shown to have the structure of modules over certain vertex operator super-algebras. The vertex operators corresponding to parallel tensor fields on closed Riemannian Spin Kähler manifolds such as Riemannian tensors and Kähler forms are shown to give rise to Virasoro algebras and affine Lie algebras. This monograph is chiefly intended for topologists and it includes accounts on topics outside of topology such as vertex operator algebras.
