Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of air quality in Albania evaluated by moss biomonitoring and metals atmospheric deposition. It is based on the concentration data onto 51 elements in moss samples collected during 2010/2011 moss biomonitoring survey conducted at the same time with European moss biomonitoring survey. The elements under investigation were determined by using ICP-AES and ENAA analytical techniques. Moss species Hypnum cupressiforme (Hedw) sps., a carpet-forming bryophyte, was used as bioindicator of trace metal atmospheric deposition. The goal of this study was to identify factors leading to the high levels of trace metals in at-mospheric deposition in Albania, to identify the risk factors and the origin of trace metals in atmos-pheric deposition. It may help the policy makers and regulators to take proper decisions to protect the public health and the environment. The distribution pattern of the elements was visualized by using the geographic information system, GIS 10.2. The predicted trends of the distribution were calculated by using time series (linear model) and the areas with high concentration of certain met-als were suggested for monitoring and to be under control.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quality Analysis of Additively Manufactured Metals: Simulation Approaches, Processes, and Microstructure Properties provides readers with a firm understanding of the failure and fatigue processes of additively manufactured metals. With a focus on computational methods, the book analyzes the process-microstructure-property relationship of these metals and how it affects their quality while also providing numerical, analytical, and experimental data for material design and investigation optimization. It outlines basic additive manufacturing processes for metals, strategies for modeling the microstructural features of metals and how these features differ based on the manufacturing process, and more.Improvement of additively manufactured metals through predictive simulation methods and microdamage and micro-failure in quasi-static and cyclic loading scenarios are covered, as are topology optimization methods and residual stress analysis techniques. The book concludes with a section featuring case studies looking at additively manufactured metals in automotive, biomedical and aerospace settings. Provides insights and outlines techniques for analyzing why additively manufactured metals fail and strategies for avoiding those failures Defines key terms and concepts related to the failure analysis, quality assurance and optimization processes of additively manufactured metals Includes simulation results, experimental data and case studies

Book excerpt: Now in its eighth year, the NILOS Documentary Yearbook provides the reader with an excellent collection of documents related to ocean affairs & the law of the sea, issued each year by organizations, organs & bodies of the United Nations system. Documents of the UN General Assembly, ECOSOC & its regional Commissions, the UN Secretary-General's Informal Consultations, PrepCom ISA/ITLOS, UNCED, UNEP & UNCTAD are included first, followed by the documents of specialized agencies & other autonomous organizations of the UN system, including FAO, IAEA, ILO, IMO, UNESCO/IOC & WMO. As in the previous volumes, documents which were issued in the course of 1992 are reproduced, while other relevant documents are listed. In view of the explosive proliferation of developments as a result of the UNCED, Volume 8 contains a Special Report by co-editor Barbara Kwiatkowska on the Ocean-Related Impact of Agenda 21 on International Organizations of the UN System in Follow-Up to the Rio Summit . For the reader's convenience, a Chronological Table of Selected Ocean-Related Post-Rio UN Meetings & Conferences up to the year 2000 is annexed to this Special Report. An extensive Index of Keywords facilitates access by the reader to the complex matters dealt with by organizations covered by the Yearbook , as well as to the information concerning individual states, regions & international instruments. The editors have been guided in the preparation of this unique collection by several outstanding experts, members of the Yearbook's Advisory Board, including the Yearbook 's inventor Ambassador Shabtai Rosenne, & Judge Andres Aguilar Mawdsley, Edward Brown, Günther Jaenicke, Douglas Johnston, Lee Kimball, Thomas Mensah, Judge Shigeru Oda, Francisco Orrego Vicuna, Tullio Treves. The NILOS Documentary Yearbook has proved to be of invaluable assistance in facilitating access by the community of scholars & practitioners in ocean affairs & the law of the sea to essential documentation. The entry into force of the 1992 UN Law of the Sea Convention on 16th November 1994 & progress in the implementation of Chapter 17 of Agenda 21, make continuation of this assistance of particular significance in the years to come.
