Book excerpt: It is often easier to let negativity, insecurity, fear, and all things the opposite of light and good, into your mind and heart. It is often easier to think that that the world would be better off if you were no longer here. It is often easier to let the darkening world embrace you than strive to reach towards the Light. But the thing is, if the world was a puzzle, it would be incomplete without you. Yes, you. The amazing, wonderful, blessing you.Now there are times when you may feel lost, wondering if you will ever find the 'thing' that can bring meaning to your life. There are times when you feel like all hope is gone and the work you give is fruitless. There are times when you feel like your life is nothing compared to others' or the idea you pictured your life being, ten years ago. Your dreams are crushed, your heart broken or mind exhausted. You search for satisfaction, peace, and everything else you think you need in different areas of life, hoping to finally find your purpose. Well, if your life was a puzzle, with all the pieces you thought were right or downright messy, it would be incomplete without the One who sees all the pieces and knows how they fit together to form the bigger picture. 'Puzzled Without You' is a ten chapter book written to remind you of your presence that is so important to make this world to complete and hopes to remind you that the one thing missing in your life is probably the One who gave you this life you live.

Book excerpt: 'The whizz-kid making maths supercool. . . A brilliant book that takes everything we know (and fear) about maths out of the equation - starting with numbers' The Times 'A cheerful, chatty, and charming trip through the world of mathematics. . . Everyone should read this delightful book' Ian Stewart, author of Do Dice Play God? The only numbers in this book are the page numbers. The three main branches of abstract math - topology, analysis, and algebra - turn out to be surprisingly easy to grasp. Or at least, they are when our guide is a math prodigy. With forthright wit and warm charm, Milo Beckman upends the conventional approach to mathematics, inviting us to think creatively about shape and dimension, the infinite and the infinitesimal, symmetries, proofs, and all how all these concepts fit together. Why is there a million dollar prize for counting shapes? Is anything bigger than infinity? And how is the 'truth' of mathematics actually decided? A vivid and wholly original guide to the math that makes the world tick and the planets revolve, Math Without Numbers makes human and understandable the elevated and hypothetical, allowing us to clearly see abstract math for what it is: bizarre, beautiful, and head-scratchingly wonderful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning programming with one of “the coolest applications around”: algorithmic puzzles ranging from scheduling selfie time to verifying the six degrees of separation hypothesis. This book builds a bridge between the recreational world of algorithmic puzzles (puzzles that can be solved by algorithms) and the pragmatic world of computer programming, teaching readers to program while solving puzzles. Few introductory students want to program for programming's sake. Puzzles are real-world applications that are attention grabbing, intriguing, and easy to describe. Each lesson starts with the description of a puzzle. After a failed attempt or two at solving the puzzle, the reader arrives at an Aha! moment—a search strategy, data structure, or mathematical fact—and the solution presents itself. The solution to the puzzle becomes the specification of the code to be written. Readers will thus know what the code is supposed to do before seeing the code itself. This represents a pedagogical philosophy that decouples understanding the functionality of the code from understanding programming language syntax and semantics. Python syntax and semantics required to understand the code are explained as needed for each puzzle. Readers need only the rudimentary grasp of programming concepts that can be obtained from introductory or AP computer science classes in high school. The book includes more than twenty puzzles and more than seventy programming exercises that vary in difficulty. Many of the puzzles are well known and have appeared in publications and on websites in many variations. They range from scheduling selfie time with celebrities to solving Sudoku problems in seconds to verifying the six degrees of separation hypothesis. The code for selected puzzle solutions is downloadable from the book's website; the code for all puzzle solutions is available to instructors.
