Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Putting the “I” in IHY This book is about international cooperation. It demonstrates how the power of scienti?c imagination and investigation can bring together people form all continents in almost all countries around the globe. In presenting this impressive result, we can understand, how much unifying force the quest for understanding our universe and using outer space for that purpose have. Astronomy is far away from being a “political” area of science. But is has enormous political effects – and all of these effects are positive. This book about the international aspects and achievements of the “International Heliophysical Year (IHY) 2007” can be regarded as a compendium of the fertile impacts of conducting research in this ?eld. The main focus, as the title implicates, is the international cooperation, which has emerged from this grassroots initiative. North and South, industrialized and developing countries have been coordinating their efforts and have been learning from each other in a mutual partnership under a joint understanding of sharing the scienti?c bene?ts. Through this, trans-border networks have been created and scienti?c as well as cultural exchange took place.

Book excerpt: This volume represents the state of the art of the science covered by the International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA) Division IV: Solar Wind and Interplanetary Field. It contains a collection of contributions by top experts addressing and reviewing a variety of topics included under the umbrella of the division. It covers subjects that extend from the interior of the Sun to the heliopause, and from the study of physical processes in the Sun and the solar wind plasma to space weather forecasts. The book is organized in 6 parts: the solar interior, the solar atmosphere, the heliosphere, heliophysical processes, radio emissions, and coordinated science in the Sun-Earth system. In addition, we highlight some of the results presented during the IAGA Division IV symposia in the 11th Scientific Assembly of IAGA in Sopron, Hungary, on 23-30 August 2009, which was planned simultaneously with this book.

Book excerpt: For millennia, the Jade Moon and the Ual-leen have fought in the murky underworld of the galaxy. Most people remain unaware of them, but their struggle spares no one-not even the innocent. Maya and Ihy raise Ianus, a young monk orphaned when he was two, in a Jade Moon monastery far away from the dangerous life in the underworld that killed his parents. Ianus comes to accept his adopted parents as his own flesh and blood. When he receives a vision of Ihy's murder, Ianus plunges deep into the underworld. With the help of his friends, he determines to face the people who murdered his birth parents. But Ianus fails to realize the Ual-leen's real goal-to steal an ancient and powerful relic. Now Ianus must save his dying father and recover the relic. Will he be able to navigate the underworld successfully, or will he fall victim to the murderer's plot? In a rush to save Ihy and his friends, Ianus must wrestle with far greater principles: do we have free will or are we slaves to our circumstances? More importantly, is it worth sacrificing life and freedom for order and security?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the leading experts, venerable grandmasters, and most active contributors $\ldots$ in the arithmetic theory of automorphic forms $\ldots$ the new material included here is mainly the outcome of his extensive work $\ldots$ over the last eight years $\ldots$ a very careful, detailed introduction to the subject $\ldots$ this monograph is an important, comprehensively written and profound treatise on some recent achievements in the theory. --Zentralblatt MATH The main objects of study in this book are Eisenstein series and zeta functions associated with Hecke eigenforms on symplectic and unitary groups. After preliminaries--including a section, ``Notation and Terminology''--the first part of the book deals with automorphic forms on such groups. In particular, their rationality over a number field is defined and discussed in connection with the group action; also the reciprocity law for the values of automorphic functions at CM-points is proved. Next, certain differential operators that raise the weight are investigated in higher dimension. The notion of nearly holomorphic functions is introduced, and their arithmeticity is defined. As applications of these, the arithmeticity of the critical values of zeta functions and Eisenstein series is proved. Though the arithmeticity is given as the ultimate main result, the book discusses many basic problems that arise in number-theoretical investigations of automorphic forms but that cannot be found in expository forms. Examples of this include the space of automorphic forms spanned by cusp forms and certain Eisenstein series, transformation formulas of theta series, estimate of the Fourier coefficients of modular forms, and modular forms of half-integral weight. All these are treated in higher-dimensional cases. The volume concludes with an Appendix and an Index. The book will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in the field of zeta functions and modular forms.

Book excerpt: Cutting a deal with the god of sex and music was supposed to be Lucas' big break. But when the price of power is sharing your body with an ancient Egyptian spirit, things get complicated real quick. At the turn of the century, the world was introduced to a group of 72 physical mystics called the 'Host'. Hosted individuals have struck a bargain with Ihy, Egyptian god of music, pleasure, lust, and fertility. A Host shares their mind and body with one of Ihy's children, keeping them safe and 'feeding' them with sensations from the vast array of human experience. In exchange, the Host receives supernatural powers based on the kind of music they're listening to at any given time. This allows them to bend physics, have supernatural strength and agility, and even influence the hearts and minds of those around them... if the right tune is playing. 'Rhythm' follows Lucas Andrews, known as 'Lucky' to his friends. Lucas is a young man who managed to become legally emancipated from his abusive parents. On paper he lives with the family of his deceased best friend, but in reality they can't afford to keep him. Instead, Lucas lives in an old station wagon parked in the Massachusetts woodlands. He endures constant bullying at school. He's able to muddle through the pain, work in a record store in order to earn food money, and quietly finish school as a straight B student. On the morning of his 17th birthday, Lucky gets the offer of a lifetime. He's invited to become a Host if he willingly shares his body with Ihy's son, Izadore. After weighing all the pros and cons, Lucas accepts the god's offer and is merged with 'Izy'. This fateful decision puts Lucas on a dangerous path. Being a Host also means being hunted. Will Lucas and Izadore be able to hone the power of their new partnership in time? Or will they be overrun by forces who will do anything, including murder, in order to maintain the religious status-quo? WARNING: This book has themes of abuse, bullying, physical violence, metaphysical violence, gun violence, sexual discovery, bisexuality, religious extremism, and pagan religious power in the modern world.
