Book excerpt: Hi my name is Deneatrice Millner I am a mother of eight children and three grandchildren, I am married to my wonderful husband Sean Millner and we are a blended family. I discovered about three or four years ago that I needed to write this book but I put it off being afraid to face if people read it what would they say, but I faced my fears and decided to write this book about how I dealt with pain on a daily basis and either I avoided it or drowned in it, either way pain was not designed to make us give up on life, but to bring life out of us. I realized after all the pain I've experienced that pain has made me a stronger woman and it has stretched me in areas I never knew was even there. I never thought I would have written this book but due to the pain of my divorce and going through my surgery. I didn't know I could even write and become an Author and write songs, it pushed out things in me that I didn't realize was there. Sometimes when you have to have relationships end it's not the end of your life, as a matter of fact it's just beginning because some people are lessons in our lives to help us get to our destiny. While I was pushing through my pain through my childhood abuse, my bad relationships, my emotional breakdowns, and my physical pain I realize none it was for nothing, I grew up as a person, and as a woman I started loving me and accepting me for who I am and that is a Prophetess, a Evangelist and Preacher. I now accept who God say that I am. This book will show you how to accept and love you.

Book excerpt: Many of us sweep our emotional pain "under the rug" or try to push through it, only to find out that it is still there. It follows us from relationship to relationship and we wonder why the same things keep happening over and over again. We ask ourselves "when will things get better?" When will we be able to find some peace in our relationships? Have you found yourself thinking about those questions? When your relationships end leaving you with pain, what do you do? Loving Through the Pain examines the pain which God's children experience when they are not properly instructed on how to deal with betrayal and hurt in relationships. By carrying distrust and old mindsets into each new relationship, we miss out on God's best for us. As you apply the principles in this book, you will be able to navigate through the pain that exist in every kind of relationship. You will learn how to forgive, let go, and move forward into the successful relationships that God wants you to have. As you learn how much God loves you, you will be able to love yourself, and in turn, love others - even when they cause you pain. I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I have been an elementary school teacher in the public school system for the past seventeen years. I resigned my teaching position to begin a new journey as a writer and public speaker. Three years ago I began writing this book out of a burden from the pain in my own relationships and what I've witnessed in other people's relationships. My goal is to continue to write to help people navigate through life's difficult times and encourage them in their walk with God.

Eventually, after seeing twenty physicians, ingesting countless medications, and enduring many invasive medical procedures, the Elster family's search ends in success. Too often, individuals in chronic pain become isolated and embittered. This is a wonderful account of an individual's courage, determination and hope that will help other families struggling with rare chronic illnesses weave a path through a fragmented medical system that treats symptoms yet rarely heals." Book excerpt: Part philosophical meditation, part cultural critique, The Body in Pain is a profoundly original study that has already stirred excitement in a wide range of intellectual circles. The book is an analysis of physical suffering and its relation to the numerous vocabularies and cultural forces--literary, political, philosophical, medical, religious--that confront it. Elaine Scarry bases her study on a wide range of sources: literature and art, medical case histories, documents on torture compiled by Amnesty International, legal transcripts of personal injury trials, and military and strategic writings by such figures as Clausewitz, Churchill, Liddell Hart, and Kissinger, She weaves these into her discussion with an eloquence, humanity, and insight that recall the writings of Hannah Arendt and Jean-Paul Sartre. Scarry begins with the fact of pain's inexpressibility. Not only is physical pain enormously difficult to describe in words--confronted with it, Virginia Woolf once noted, "language runs dry"--it also actively destroys language, reducing sufferers in the most extreme instances to an inarticulate state of cries and moans. Scarry analyzes the political ramifications of deliberately inflicted pain, specifically in the cases of torture and warfare, and shows how to be fictive. From these actions of "unmaking" Scarry turns finally to the actions of "making"--the examples of artistic and cultural creation that work against pain and the debased uses that are made of it. Challenging and inventive, The Body in Pain is landmark work that promises to spark widespread debate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trading on the sterling reputation that enabled him to survive a widely publicized doping confession, American cyclist “Big George” Hincapie—a record seventeen-time Tour de France participant, Olympian, and key witness in the Lance Armstrong doping case—offers an insightful account of his esteemed career and a sports era defined by performance-enhancing drug use. In this highly anticipated cycling memoir, Big George Hincapie provides the most comprehensive account of a dark period in professional cycling, in which doping scandals have decimated the careers of some of the top athletes in the field. The Loyal Lieutenant reveals how Hincapie’s life has been intrinsically tied to the sport he loves, from his earliest days in Queens, where he was influenced by his Colombian father’s love of cycling and the Colombian “cycling warrior” archetype. Hincapie takes us through his amateur years to the Olympics, and chronicles his exhilarating ride as a professional, including finding his true calling as Lance Armstrong’s most prized “domestique”—leading his then best friend to seven straight Tour de France victories. Hincapie speaks openly about his relationship with Armstrong, how he himself began doping, and why he quit long before the headline-making revelations. His personal evolution is the journey of a man dedicated to coming clean about his past and to restore honor to the sport he loves.
