At first, they have fun exploring inside the big, old house, but eventually they want to explore outside, too. “Where does the rain come from?” Sarah asks her grandfather, Big T. He promises to show her once it stops raining. When the storm passes, Sarah, Big T., Charlie and Keeper the dog go exploring. They jump in puddles, draw a puddle map and finally find the biggest puddle in the world! Mark Lee’s lively story is an introduction to the water cycle for young readers. Nathalie Dion’s soft illustrations show the fun, loving relationship between Big T., Sarah and Charlie. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women are at risk in this Society! The US government has determined that personal responsibility is the model for retirement. Each retiree will need to MANAGE all the components of her retirement investments, health care costs, personal care costs and living arrangements for an estimated 30 year retirement. All the while the government will continue to lessen Social Security and Medicare coverage for the middle class. A married Woman may spend 15 years or more without a partner typically after suffering financially from the crushing long term care costs for their aging spouse. Without proper planning, a woman will surely be thrown into poverty. And when a woman starts to need care, many women will find that their adult children or family are not in a place financially or geographically to assist. Society has shifted tremendous responsibility onto women without creating the tools or assistance needed to be successful. Women have been Ignored! The retirement planning industry was created by men for men. The industry is selling "the get rich quick" gambling on stocks illusion as a complete retirement plan. This is a ridiculous strategy! It is attractive to men that want quick fixes to complicated issues while Wall Street drains your portfolio through commissions and fees. Women will need to manage all the aspects of retirement in this challenging society, watching expenses as much as their investments. IN THIS NEW RETIREMENT, WOMEN MUST ACCEPT THE LEADING ROLE. WOMEN ARE NATURAL MANAGERS. THEY MANAGE THEIR FAMILY'S FINANCES, RELATIONSHIPS AND A HOUSEHOLD. Out of necessity eighty percent of women will find themselves solely responsible at some point in retirement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Urarina is an endangered isolate spoken by less than 3,000 people in the rainforests of North-western Peru. This book aims at providing a comprehensive description of Urarina grammar covering all areas of the language. From a linguistic point of view, Urarina is particularly interesting because of a range of unusual grammatical characteristics that are rarely or not at all found in other languages. One remarkable property is the constituent order OVA/VS, which was classified as "non-existing" by Greenberg (1966). However, this atypical syntactic structure is a surprisingly consistent feature of Urarina, which discerns it from the majority of languages which are assumed to follow this syntactic pattern. Another feature probably unique to Urarina is the existence of a three-way distinction for person marking on all verbs. The choice of the respective paradigm depends on a complex set of syntactic and pragmatic conditions, which are investigated in detail. Scholars whose main interest is in morphology will also be intrigued by the polysynthetic verbal morphology of Urarina, which fits well into the Amazonian context. A Grammar of Urarina is based on the framework of basic linguistic theory, which will be accessible to scholars from a wide range of backgrounds. The straightforward presentation of linguistic structures is accompanied by in-depth discussion of the most interesting and unusual features, illustrated by examples for all grammatical phenomena and often summarised by tables or diagrams. This book fills a gap not only for studies in Amazonian languages but also from a typological perspective.

But her department’s investigation into a brutal double homicide has suddenly become much more complex—and personal. Book excerpt: Readers will be rooting for a happy ending for Hank in Newbery-Honor-winner Gennifer Choldenko’s gripping story of a boy struggling to hold his family together when his mom doesn't come home. When eleven-year-old Hank’s mom doesn’t come home, he takes care of his toddler sister, Boo, like he always does. But it’s been a week now. They are out of food and mom has never stayed away this long… Hank knows he needs help, so he and Boo seek out the stranger listed as their emergency contact. But asking for help has consequences. It means social workers, and a new school, and having to answer questions about his mom that he's been trying to keep secret. And if they can't find his mom soon, Hank and Boo may end up in different foster homes--he could lose everything. Gennifer Choldenko has written a heart-wrenching, healing, and ultimately hopeful story about how complicated family can be. About how you can love someone, even when you can’t rely on them. And about the transformative power of second chances.
