Derartige Belastungen wie zum Beispiel schwere korperliche Arbeit oder enormer Zeitdruck belasten jedoch nicht nur den Korper, sondern auch die Psyche der Mitarbeiter. Dies spiegelt sich in Fehlzeitenstatistiken und Krankenstanden wieder. Aus diesem Problem ergeben sich Handlungsansatze, welche darauf ausgerichtet sind, der durch den demografischen Wandel immer alter werdenden Belegschaft Moglichkeiten zu bieten, den Arbeitsalltag bei voller korperlicher und geistiger Gesundheit zu bewaltigen. Unternehmen sollten gewillt sein den Belastungen entgegenzusteuern, um auch weiterhin wirtschaftlich arbeiten zu konnen. Die Gesundheit der Mitarbeiter sollte an oberster Stelle stehen, damit ihnen ein angenehmes und besseres Arbeitsumfeld ermoglicht wird. Nur so ist zu realisieren, dass die Mitarbeiter ihre Tatigkeit bei voller Gesundheit und hoher Motivation bis ins hohe Alter ausuben konnen."

Die Coronakrise in diesem Jahr brachte erneut zum Vorschein, wie knapp die Ressource Pflegepersonal tatsächlich ist. Die Brisanz wird durch die aktuellen politischen Entscheidungen deutlich, so wurden bedingt durch die Corona-Pandemie Personaluntergrenzen in der stationären Krankenpflege ausgesetzt und kürzlich in Niedersachen eine Arbeitszeiterhöhung für Pflegekräfte von 60 Stunden pro Woche gesetzlich legitimiert. Bereits heute ist von einem erheblichen Fachkräftemangel in der stationären Krankenversorgung auszugehen, Berechnungen zufolge fehlen 131.500 Pflegekräfte in stationären Einrichtungen. Der Fachkräftemangel wird sich voraussichtlich durch die zukünftigen Bevölkerungs- und Beschäftigungsstrukturen weiter verschärfen. Dies stellt vor dem Hintergrund einer stetigen Ökonomisierung im Gesundheitswesen eine große Herausforderung für die Branche dar. Die einhergehende Arbeitsverdichtung in der stationären Krankenversorgung scheint sich auf die Gesundheit der Mitarbeiter auszuwirken. Pflegende weisen erhöhte Ausfallzeiten auf, ca. 17,9% der Fehltage resultieren aus psychischen Störungen. Arbeitsbedingte psychische Belastungen können langfristig die Entstehung von psychischen Erkrankungen begünstigen und weisen eine Kausalität zum vorzeitigen Ausstieg aus dem Pflegeberuf auf.

Book excerpt: The association between social class and psychiatric disorder has been one of the central topics of socio-epidemiological research since its inception. With remarkable consistency, numerous investigations have demonstrated an inverse correlation between social class and prevalence rates for most forms of psychopathology. The debate on the interpreta tion of these findings - social causation versus social selection processes - continues to this day. Moreover, the question as to what the psychoso cial processes are through which social class and individual psychopa thology are mediated has remained mostly unanswered. The concept of social stress may well provide new insights in this regard. One should note, in particular, the considerable conceptual and methodological progress made in life event research. Recently, the first attempts have been made to link the two concepts of social class and social stress. These developments will be retraced in this book in the light of new investigations. Descriptive epidemiological studies on the relation between social class and psychiatric disorders form the point of depar ture. Explicit reference is made to two classical studies in psychiatric epidemiology: Faris and Dunham's Chicago study and the New Haven study by Hollingshead and Redlich. Following on from there, various approaches in analytical epidemiological research are presented which attempt to determine whether - or, more precisely, to what extent - social causation or social selection processes can be said to be responsible for the higher rates of psychiatric disorders in lower social strata.

Anna Kuliscioff (ca. 1854-1925) was a prominent figure in the revolutionary politics of her era, advocating for socialism and feminism. One of the founding members of the Italian Socialist Party, she actively contributed to the late-nineteenth-century flourishing of the Socialist International and the emergence of Italian socialism. For the last decades of her life, Kuliscioff's public militancy revolved around the "woman question." She viewed feminism through the lens of class struggle, addressing the double exploitation of women--in the workplace and at home. Kuliscioff fought a twofold battle: as a socialist, she unmasked the sexism of her colleagues; as a feminist, she criticized liberal-bourgeois feminism. In this key text, she makes her case for a socialist feminism. Originating as a lecture Kuliscioff delivered in April 1890 at a meeting of the the Milan Philological Circle (which denied membership to women), The Monopoly of Man explicitly links feminism to labor. Kuliscioff argues that labor frees women from the prison of the household and potentially fosters their emancipation; she advances the principle of equal pay for equal work. She declares that woman is enslaved by both her husband and by capital, calls marriage a form of women's servitude, and demands that motherhood be better appreciated as work. It is only when woman is economically independent and resists capitalism, she argues, that she will achieve freedom, dignity, and the respect of man.
