Book Synopsis The Disputed Białowieża Forest by : Maciej Perkowski
Download or read book The Disputed Białowieża Forest written by Maciej Perkowski and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-06-27 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Polish dispute on an adequate approach towards the Białowieża Forest has been significantly internationalised, primarily by UNESCO and the European Union. The judgment of the CJEU has not settled the substance of the dispute, although it points to a violation of EU legal standards. The authors of The Disputed Białowieża Forest: Legal Remedies for the Protection of Cross-border Properties address the dispute in a constructive and interdisciplinary manner, rather than merely expressing concern towards in situ conservation, and derive universal legal remedies from it. They conclude that in the case of unique invaluable goods, adequate individual solutions should be applied in the form of a localised agreement, open to many entities (interested states, international organisations and even socially responsible private corporations), on the condition that organisational and financial co-responsibility are accepted.

Book Synopsis The Local Relevance of Human Rights by : Koen De Feyter
Download or read book The Local Relevance of Human Rights written by Koen De Feyter and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-08 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do human rights offer real protection when disadvantaged groups invoke them at the local level in an attempt to improve their living conditions? If so, how can we make sure that the experiences of those invoking human rights at the local level have an impact on the further development of human rights (at national and other levels) so that the local relevance of human rights increases? Since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on 10 December 1948, numerous international documents have reaffirmed human rights as global norms. This book examines what factors determine whether appeals to human rights that emanate from the local level are successful, and whether the UDHR adequately responds to threats as currently defined by relevant groups or whether a revision of some of the ideas included in the UDHR is needed in order to increase its contemporary relevance.

Download or read book Hierarchy and Interdependence in Multi-level Structures written by Tamara Kovziridze and published by ASP / VUBPRESS / UPA. This book was released on 2008 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book analyses the relationship between federalism and European integration, and in this context examines the impact of Europeanization on the three EU member states that are constitutionally federal: Belgium, Germany and Austria. The author chooses two theoretical concepts - hierarchy and interdependence - to characterize certain institutional and structural features of federal states. Her comparative analysis shows that European integration does have an impact on federalism and that it is leading to growing institutional interdependence between the levels of governance in all three states."--Back cover.
