Ill american protestants united to perform their part As the war has been strengthening the bond of sympathy between America and the people of France and Belgium, the Protestants of these countries, realizing that the moral strength of America lies in its spirit of freedom fostered by Protestantism, have been endeavoring to come into closer fellowship with the Protestants of America. Immediately after the declaration of war by America the French Protestant Committee sent to the Publicity Department of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America a letter for publication in the Protestant papers of this country, expressing joy in the fellowship of the two nations, now allied in the same great cause, and suggesting an interchange of newspapers and periodicals to the end that each country might learn to understand the other more perfectly. A part of the letter follows: The French Protestant Committee, in cooperation with the Federal Council of the Protestant Churches in France, has already done much, by means of its monthly Bulletin and other literature, to make the position and the aim of France during the war better known to your people. But since the great soa American Republic has entered with all her might into the battle for the united cause of Democracy and International Right, we feel it our duty to pay a more worthy tribute to the kinship and common ideals existing between the Protestant churches of the American and French Republics.... It is with the spirit of thankfulness and Christian fellowship that we, French Protestants, testify to the invaluable support of the churches and the religious press of America in nursing our wounded, feeding our fellow-countrymen under the yoke of the oppressor and caring for destitute...
Book Synopsis Religion and Politics in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa by : Jeffrey Haynes
Download or read book Religion and Politics in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa written by Jeffrey Haynes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-10-16 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the early twenty-first century, it is now clear that religion is increasingly influential in the political realm in ways which call into question the principles and practices of secularism. The Iranian revolution of 1978-9 marked the decisive ‘reappearance’ of political religion in global politics, highlighting a major development which is the subject of this edited volume. Addressing a highly salient and timely topic, this book examines the consequences of political interactions involving the state and religious actors in Christian, Muslim and Judaist contexts. Building on research, the basic premise of this text is that religious actors – including Islamist groups, the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox churches – pose various challenges for citizenship, democracy, and secularisation in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The key questions on which the book focuses are: Why, how, and when do religious actors seek to influence political outcomes in these regions? Providing a survey of what is happening in relation to the interaction of religion and politics, both domestically and internationally, this book will be of interest to students and scholars of politics, religion, European and Middle East studies.

This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1957, this book is a detailed analysis on Christian Democracy, a movement backed by Protestants as well as Catholics, which has become one of the great social forces of Western Europe. It is strong in eight countries. The first half of Fogarty’s book sets out what the many Christian-Democratic movements stand for. The second part of the book shows how these movements began, how they have grown, changed, and consolidated, and how they developed into the mid-20th century. This is a broad and useful survey which delves the history, nature and significance of the Christian Democratic movements in Europe. In Fogarty’s analysis, Christian Democracy may indeed bring about a renewed unity of the Christian tradition in Western society.
