In Part II, reproductive and fetal aspects of L-PGDS are provided by Zeng-Ming Yang, Murray Mitchell, Rachel J. A. Helliwell, Mhoyra Fraser, and Jeffrey A. Keelan. Vascular aspects of L-PGDS are provided in Part III by Louis Ragolia, who exposes the role of L-PGDS in insulin resistance, inflammation and atherosclerosis and introduces the concept of L-PGDS as a vital hub to the metabolic syndrome; Maria Luigia Fazia, Andrea Mezzetti, and Francesco Cipollone, examine the expression and role of L-PGDS in atherothrombosis; Yoshikazu Miwa and Toshiyuki Sasaguri, discusses its role as a vasoprotective factor; and Hideyuki Negoro examines the role of endogenous prostaglandin D2 in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular injuries. In Part IV Masako Taniike and Ikuko Mohri examine the pathophysiological role of L-PGDS in neurological disorders while Atsushi Hiraoka characterizes the various isoforms found in cerebrospinal fluid. Finally, the association to cancer is discussed in Part V by Abhijit Banerjee, who examines L-PGDS in Cancer Progression. It is my desire that this book will both expose and inspire those unfamiliar with the vast and complex actions of this extraordinary protein, and foster additional research on a protein which I believe holds great promise for therapeutic disease intervention.
