Book excerpt: Introduccion: Desde su concepción en 1989 por Tim Berners-Lee, la Web ha crecido enormemente. Ha aumentado la cantidad de usuarios, recursos y contenido. A través de los años la web ha evolucionado para adaptarse a las necesidades generadas en parte debido a este crecimiento. El primer estado de la Web, conocido como Web 1.0, básicamente consistía en una Web de recursos interconectados donde los usuarios tenían acceso de lectura. El estado actual de la Web, definido por Tim O‘Reilly como "Web 2.0" convierte a los usuarios en participantes activos de la Web, transformándolos en productores y consumidores del contenido y les proporciona la capacidad de interactuar en ambientes sociales. Debido a la popularidad que generó la "Web 2.0", aumentó considerablemente la cantidad de usuarios y con ello la cantidad de información. La "Web Semántica", una extensión de la Web actual permite otorgar una semántica bien definida a la información disponible en la Web mediante el uso de ontologías, permitiendo que las aplicaciones utilicen la información presente en la web y produzcan inferencias para generar conocimiento. Esta investigación pretende generar una prospectiva que plantea una eventual convergencia de la "Web 2.0" y la "Web Semántica" para evidenciar los primeros indicios de la Web del futuro, posiblemente "Web 3.0", donde la Web social y las tecnologías semánticas se benefician de las fortalezas del otro, manteniendo el enfoque de la "Web 2.0" hacia las comunidades y la usabilidad, mientras se preserva la infraestructura de la Web Semántica y evidenciando las tecnologías y el impacto social que surgirían en esta transición.
