Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using the term "prophetic remembrance" to articulate the expression of a constituent faith in the performative capacity of language, Erica Still shows how black subjectivity is born of and interprets cultural trauma. She brings together African American neo-slave narratives and Black South African postapartheid narratives to reveal the processes by which black subjectivity accounts for its traumatic origins, names the therapeutic work of the present, and inscribes the possibility of the future. The author draws on trauma studies, black theology, and literary criticism as she considers how writers such as Toni Morrison, Charles Johnson, John Edgar Wideman, David Bradley, Sindiwe Magona, K. Sello Duiker, and Zakes Mda explore the possibilities for rehearsing a traumatic past without being overcome by it. Although both African American and South African literary studies have addressed questions of memory, narrative, and trauma, little comparative work has been done. Prophetic Remembrance offers this comparative focus in reading these literatures together to address the question of what it means to remember and to recover from racial oppression.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most important innovators of the century, Tariq Ramadan is a leading Muslim scholar, with a large following especially among young European and American Muslims. Now, in his first book written for a wide audience, he offers a marvelous biography of the Prophet Muhammad, one that highlights the spiritual and ethical teachings of one of the most influential figures in human history. In the Footsteps of the Prophet is a fresh and perceptive look at Muhammad, capturing a life that was often eventful, gripping, and highly charged. Ramadan provides both an intimate portrait of a man who was shy, kind, but determined, as well as a dramatic chronicle of a leader who launched a great religion and inspired a vast empire. More important, Ramadan presents the main events of the Prophet's life in a way that highlights his spiritual and ethical teachings. The book underscores the significance of the Prophet's example for some of today's most controversial issues, such as the treatment of the poor, the role of women, Islamic criminal punishments, war, racism, and relations with other religions. Selecting those facts and stories from which we can draw a profound and vivid spiritual picture, the author asks how can the Prophet's life remain -- or become again -- an example, a model, and an inspiration? And how can Muslims move from formalism -- a fixation on ritual -- toward a committed spiritual and social presence? In this thoughtful and engaging biography, Ramadan offers Muslims a new understanding of Muhammad's life and he introduces non-Muslims not just to the story of the Prophet, but to the spiritual and ethical riches of Islam.

I want to finish strong and I know you do also. This book is meant to encourage you to keep going in spite of the odds stacked against you. It seems when we cross one Jordan River there is another one waiting for us in our trials, temptations, or impossibilities. When we pass through our rivers there are always stones or gems of wisdom and revelation to pick up from the bottom of the dry riverbed. It's those moments when it looks like we are not going to make it that changes us forever to be a little more like Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book Of Remembrances [Kitab al-Adhkar] – By Imam Yahya ibn Sharaf an-Nawawi Kitab al-Adhkar is the definitive compilation of words of remembrance and glorification of (dhikr), and supplicatory prayer to (du’a), the Lord of the Universe, as related from His final Emissary, the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah bless and exalt him). Dhikr and du’a lie at the very heart of the din, the relationship between creature and Creator. As part of the Sunna or Prophetic Way, they are a divinely appointed means of approaching Allah Most High for all our needs, and of making use of all the moments of daily life to strengthen our tawhid, the existential and cognitive Unity that is the hallmark of Muslim spirituality. Also covered are the vital principles of speaking only what is good and avoiding the sins of the tongue. The author, Muhy al-Din Yahya ibn Sharaf al-Nawawi (631-676/123-1277) devoted his entire life to the pursuit of sacred knowledge. He is revered throughout the Sunni world as one of its greatest authorities. Among his most famous writings are the Arba’in, a collection of forty Hadiths; a commentary on the Sahih of Imam Muslim; and Kitab al-Adhkar. Designed as a reference guide and a source of inspiration, this volume presents a clear and elegant English translation of Imam al-Nawawis classic, together with the text of every single prayer and invocation, both in Arabic letters and in romanisation. Also included are all the authors statements about those Hadiths which he related personally from his own teachers, and his guidance on the correct spelling and meanings of rare words and names. Finally, al-Nawawi's comments on the sources of Hadiths are supplemented by further scholarly notes.

Book excerpt: Remembrance and Prayer: The Way of Prophet Muhammad, was one of the first works of Shaykh al Ghazali's to be translated into English. The book describes in vivid prose how the Prophet, upon him be peace, used to remember Allah and pray to Him. Not only are the exquisitely beautiful, deeply moving and penetrating words of the Prophet given in the English translation, but in the original Arabic as well, thus allowing those desirous of memorizing Arabic access to the original texts. The intimate relationship with Allah, which was the hallmark of the Prophet's life, becomes clear and vivid. The book's contents are immensely relevant. to the life and concerns of modern man, whose life has been made barren by the present secularist machinery.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Holy Quran, God says, "Remember Me, (and) I will remember you." (Chapter 2, Verse 152). The remembrance of God will bring His Mercy and Contentment and cause believers to feel peace and tranquillity. Almighty God encourages us, in so many verses of the Holy Quran, to continuously remember Him and always be connected to Him. God will then reward us greatly and forgive us. Contentment will cause believers to have a righteous and satisfying life. Everyone hopes for God's care and to be close to Him. It was narrated from the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, that God says, "I am just as My servant thinks I am, and I am with him when he remembers Me ..." Remembrance is one of the easy and righteous deeds that bring the believer closer to his Lord, and he will be rewarded. Remembrance of God ranks very highly as a good deed, as mentioned in Chapter 29, Verse 45: "Recite that which has been revealed to you of the Book, and perform the prayer ... but the remembrance of God is surely greater. And God knows all that you do." The believer should remember God at all times, in health or sickness, wealth or poverty, when working, and when not working. Such remembrance will keep him away from bad deeds since God is always in his heart, and he is connected to Him through prayers of remembrance. The Holy Quran and the Prophetic Tradition have a large store of these remembrances for all times and daily events, with many remembrances dedicated to particular occasions. These will keep the believer close to God, and He will be contented with him. As the Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "If God is content with you, He will give you contentment."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In an era of military conflict and economic hardship, religious and political leaders adamantly speak in the language of crisis. Whether one attributes this public religious fervor to a response to the attacks of September 11, 2001, millennial hopes and fears, a sense of moral decay (generally based on either growing economic inequality or the 'breakdown of the American family'), or a sign of the normal progression of the stages of history, the discourse of religious revival is increasingly prominent. And, as is amply evident in the United States and throughout the world, devout declarations of religious belief in the public sphere can bring intractable passions to politics."—from Chapter 1 What are the relationships among religion, politics, and narratives? What makes prophetic political narratives congenial or hostile to democratic political life? David S. Gutterman explores the prophetic politics of four twentieth- and twenty-first-century American Christian social movements: the Reverend Billy Sunday and his vision of "muscular Christianity"; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Civil Rights movement; the conservative Christian male organization Promise Keepers; and the progressive antipoverty organization Call to Renewal. Gutterman develops a theory based on the work of Hannah Arendt and others and employs this framework to analyze expressions of the prophetic impulse in the political narrative of the United States. In the process, he examines timely issues about the tense and intricate relationship between religion and politics. Even prior to George W. Bush's faith-based initiative, debates about abortion, family values, welfare reform, and environmental degradation were informed by religious language and ideas. In an interdisciplinary and accessible manner, Gutterman translates the narratives employed by American Christian social movements to define both the crises in the land and the path to resolving these crises. The book also explores the engagement of these prophetic social movements in contentious political issues concerned with sex, gender, sexuality, race, and class, as well as broader questions of American identity.

It is the light of the eyes which dispels darkness. It is the strength of the bodies from weakness." – The Prophet Muhammad (S) Hadith – the reported words and deeds of the Prophet Muhammad (S) – rank only second to the Qur’an in their importance in Islamic thought. This collection of hadith provides a plethora of hadith on a vast variety of subjects, categorised for ease of reference. A translation of the contemporary Arabic hadith collection Muntakhab Hikam al-Nabi al-A‘zam, the hadith have been selected with an eye for authenticity from prominent classical Shi‘i and Sunni sources and include subjects such as knowledge, the intellect, theology, the afterlife, childrearing, economics, the Companions, and Prophetic medicine. It is ideal for researchers and scholars of Islam as well as those wishing to gain a greater understanding of the legacy of the Prophet Muhammad (S) in this era when misconceptions abound. Translated lucidly and meticulously, it is presented in a bilingual Arabic-English edition with periodic commentary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “There is always an atheism to be extracted from a religion,” Deleuze and Guattari write in their final collaboration, What Is Philosophy? Their claim that Christianity “secretes” atheism “more than any other religion,” however, reflects the limits of their archive. Theological projects seeking to engage Deleuze remain embedded within Christian theologies and intellectual histories; whether they embrace, resist, or negotiate with Deleuze’s atheism, the atheism in question remains one extracted from Christian theology, a Christian atheism. In Sufi Deleuze, Michael Muhammad Knight offers an intervention, engaging Deleuzian questions and themes from within Islamic tradition. Even if Deleuze did not think of himself as a theologian, Knight argues, to place Deleuze in conversation with Islam is a project of comparative theology and faces the challenge of any comparative theology: It seemingly demands that complex, internally diverse traditions can speak as coherent, monolithic wholes. To start from such a place would not only defy Islam’s historical multiplicity but also betray Deleuze’s model of the assemblage, which requires attention to not only the organizing and stabilizing tendencies within a structure but also the points at which a structure resists organization, its internal heterogeneity, and unpredictable “lines of flight.” A Deleuzian approach to Islamic theology would first have to affirm that there is no such thing as a universal “Islamic theology” that can speak for all Muslims in all historical settings, but rather a multiplicity of power struggles between major and minor forces that contest each other over authenticity, authority, and the making of “orthodoxy.” The discussions in Sufi Deleuze thus highlight Islam’s extraordinary range of possibilities, not only making use of canonically privileged materials such as the Qur’an and major hadith collections, but also exploring a variety of marginalized resources found throughout Islam that challenge the notion of a singular “mainstream” interpretive tradition. To say it in Deleuze’s vocabulary, Islam is a rhizome.

Book excerpt: A nonfiction book about an angelic visitation, in the fall of 2016. I was shown by an angel of the Lord a golden cup. It was beautiful, not ornamental at all, and it was brilliantly bright gold. No handles on it. The angel turned it completely around and then extended it to me, and the word "see" came upon my heart. It was then exactly 7 months later when I was told to flush the cups of four golden ones, down the toilets. Truly I say to you, four golden cups, showed up, in the spirit in a bathroom, in two toilets, two in each toilet. So I did, I flushed them down those toilets. The cup of remembrance that Jesus gave to his disciples at the last supper, was his last will and testament for all who believe him. It is in prophecies. For it has been forgotten in past generations, being put on the back burners in bible studies and the lives of those who profess to be his followers, and forgetting to read their bibles. Even so, in times past was even made an idol, that the cup itself held the power, so much so, that it has been hunted down, written about in Christian books, and enshrined with ornamental replicas, the name given it would be that called the Holly Grail. Lord Jesus never meant for the actual cup he used to become the focal point. As a testimony to the Lord Jesus and his power, it's not the cup or golden chalice, for I, a believer, and great lover of Jesus, for he gave me, communion, his holy bread and wine in the form of a chocolate chip cookie and a soda. My heart sings for joy as I write this book in the remembering of that day. Holy Spirit gave me this life giving sup, on a park bench outside of a Walmart, one beautiful day, just outside of Birmingham, Alabama that is. I lifted up each one, starting with the cookie, I broke it in half and partook of it, then I lifted up the soda and blessed it with the directions of the Holy Spirit. I then took a sup..... In Remembrance Of. The Lord is calling His children back, to drink the Cup of Remembrance. One Cup, that's all, not three or four or five at all. For unity is what Jesus is calling for, this scripture tells exactly what Jesus is saying in these last days. In Ephesians 2:15 it is written, "Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace." (15) I am also to write this scripture after he gave me 333. Holy Spirit led me to John 3:33, it is written, He that hath received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true. (33) May God Bless you And Keep You A.Catherine Rush

Book excerpt: Decision decides seasons and God's intervention. Jesus said my hour has not come but his mother's action provoked the due time (John 2:1-11). The actions you will see and respond to in this book will provoke heaven to remember you. The God we serve is the God of times and seasons. The sun, the moon, the stars, day and night, evening and morning. These and more appear in their seasons. Planting and harvesting of all kinds of fruits have their times and seasons. When a woman is pregnant for instance she has to wait for the fullness of time, after nine months the baby will no longer be comfortable in the womb. It has to be born because it's time has come. In your season of remembrance which I believe is now, your dream can no longer remain in the womb because the time to birth it has come. "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" - (Ecclesiastes 3:1) In this book, I will be showing you things to do that will bring about the fulfillment of the prophetic word, "It is My Season of Remembrance" You will no longer experience delay. God is saying His word shall no longer be prolonged, even in your life. No more delay! Yes delay shall be a thing of the past.He says, "...For I will hasten my Word to perform it" - (Jeremiah 1:12) He says, "...Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged anymore, but the word which I have spoken shall be done saith the Lord God." - (Ezekiel 12:28) Each time I read prophecies in God's word I am always passionate about it, because His words are new every day. When we key into His word and apply it in our lives, the result will always be testimonial. No wonder Job says, "I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food" - (Job 23:12) His word is the most potent than anything you can ever think of. Basically in this book we will be dealing with the case of Rachael the second wife of Jacob"And God remembered Rachael....." - (Genesis 30:28)
