This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past few years several manuals dealing with project planning for the developing countries have been published. One may therefore ask why another study on this subject has been written. The answer is that the manuals, in my opinion, do not deal adequately with the income distribution aspects of projects. This study was written to demonstrate how traditional project plan ning criteria can be expanded to include income distribution considerations. Part I of the study (Chapters I through 6) discusses conventional project planning criteria. Chapter I serves as an introduction by reviewing some of the broader principles of the analysis. Chapters 2 and 3 examine in detail the valuation of benefits and costs, paying particular attention to the problems that arise in making such valuations in developing countries. While Chapter 4 is concerned with the rules to be followed for maximizing the net benefits of a single project, Chapter 5 reviews the techniques for maximizing the net benefits of a series of projects. Chapter 6 deals with a number of different topics, ranging from the practical problems posed by linkages and externalities to an examin ation of the usefulness of international lending agencies and problems related to divergencies from situations of internal and external balance. Part II is concerned with income distribution, and begins in Chapter 7 with a review of the concept of a social welfare function.

Book Synopsis Basic Cost Benefit Analysis for Assessing Local Public Projects, Second Edition by : Barry P. Keating
Download or read book Basic Cost Benefit Analysis for Assessing Local Public Projects, Second Edition written by Barry P. Keating and published by Business Expert Press. This book was released on 2017-05-24 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cost benefit technique is so often referenced in government policy that a correct understanding is necessary for officials entrusted with public decisions. This book presents essential elements for understanding, interpreting, and conducting cost benefit analysis (CBA) in the context of local government. If you’re charged with preparing numerical analyses to assess the worthiness of a specific policy proposal, you’ll need this book to understand how costs and benefits are identified and analyzed in terms of economic efficiency and resource allocation. CBA is rooted in and has little or no value apart from the economic concepts of cost and resource efficiency. This book is designed to teach the correct use and interpretation of cost benefit analysis, while advising you of CBA’s limitations and pitfalls. Case studies, presented in the final chapters of this book, represent typical proposals confronted by local officials. The book also includes instructions for using computer spreadsheets to build basic cost benefit models and an appendix on the step-by-step process of discounting future costs and benefits.

Book Synopsis Evaluating Transnational Programs in Government and Business by : Vincent E. McHale
Download or read book Evaluating Transnational Programs in Government and Business written by Vincent E. McHale and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaluating Transnational Programs in Government and Business is a collection of papers presented at a symposium entitled ""Evaluating Transnational Programs,"" conducted at Case Western Reserve University during the 1977-1978 academic year. The symposium was organized to address the various issues and controversies surrounding adequate methods for effective policy evaluation and assessment at the transnational level. The book explores the conceptual, methodological, bureaucratic, political, and organizational factors that hinder sound evaluation of government and private programs with transnational implications. This monograph consists of 11 chapters and opens with an introduction to methodological issues in the transnational field. It then reviews the development of various world modeling activities and compares them from the standpoints of characteristics, structure, methodological underpinnings, applications, and criticisms. The World Integrated Model is used to assess United States policy options regarding agricultural exports and oil imports by placing them in a broader transnational context. The following chapters focus on various problems in the evaluation of U.S. foreign economic policies, including foreign trade and investment policies. The criteria used by development banks in the processing of loan requests are also considered, along with non-economic objectives in economic development assistance programs; the role of multinational corporations as agents of technology transfer and their effects on changing U.S. policies regarding foreign investment. The final chapter deals with the growing need for transnational appraisal of the impacts of institutions on basic human values. This book will be of interest to business and government officials as well as social and political scientists.
