Book excerpt: A LOVE STORY LOST IN PRIDE & PREJUDICE... It is high summer when Ellie Bentley joins an archaeological dig at Jane Austen's childhood home. She's always had a talent for 'seeing' into the past and is not easily disturbed by her encounters with Mr Darcy's ghost at the house where she's staying. When Ellie travels into the past she discovers exactly what happened whilst Jane danced her way through the snowy winter of 1796. As Steventon Rectory and all its characters come to life, Ellie discovers the true love story lost in Pride and Prejudice - a tale which has its own consequences for her future destiny, changing her life beyond imagination.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Under normal circumstances, Darcy might have chosen to have words with Bingley about his household staff. He should not have been able to come in and out of the house in the middle of the night with no notice. But in this particular case, he was relieved that there was no one about to see him carrying an undressed and unconscious Elizabeth Bennet through the great marble hall of Netherfield Park. Based on the classic novel by Jane Austen, a story that asks what would have happened if Elizabeth had caught her sister’s cold? One by one, the residents of Netherfield Park are falling to a strange illness, but are midnight rambles through the hedgerows and delirious confessions on moonlit balconies a sign of a new understanding between Darcy and Elizabeth, or merely the result of a fever dream? When Darcy leaves the countryside, Elizabeth thinks she has the answer. And when she, too travels with her sister to visit the Gardiners, she is determined to put her feelings for the arrogant man behind her and enjoy herself in town. But try as they both might, it cannot be denied: from quiet country lanes to the glittering ballrooms of London, there is no place for Elizabeth except…IN DARCY’S ARMS. In Darcy’s Arms is a sweet, standalone Regency romance of 60,000 words.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you heard? Mr. Darcy is back ... After a long and mysterious absence, Mr. Darcy has returned to Pemberley from the Far East. He is but a shell of the man who disappeared into the night after the death of his beloved Elizabeth three years ago. The cloud of grief and self-pity that hovers over him cannot even be dispelled by his own young daughter Eliza, the last heir to his and Elizabeth's union, whom he left in the care of his sister that terrible night. The rumors in town go unanswered as the pale and withdrawn Darcy hides away, resisting all attempts to reintegrate him into society. His sister, however, is not so easily swayed and is determined to find him a wife (and Eliza a mother) of good repute ... and she has just the woman in mind. Set about four years after the events of Pride and Prejudice, Anja Bligh's Mr. Darcy's Second Chance is a warm, fascinating account of a love found for one of the most beloved characters of Victorian romance.

Book excerpt: The mainstream humor debut of Edie Claire, author of the USA-Today bestselling Leigh Koslow mystery series! A professional woman’s mind is a terrible thing to waste. With two kids, a mortgage, and a husband who’s about to lose his job, the last thing Karen Robertson needs is to get fired from her own. Ordinarily, she enjoys her work in the Communications Department of Zomar Industries, where she, Darcy, Whitney, and Luba click on keyboards all day in a friendly four-station cubicle nicknamed “The Blonde Pod.” But management happens. Counting time spent in a pediatrician’s waiting room as vacation is bad. Switching the company’s entire database of office supply products into an untested new software program is worse. But when younger and sexier hotshot Morgan Bessel gets mysteriously promoted, then secretly sets out to lay off some of Zomar’s most senior and beloved employees, the blondes decide it’s time to “provide solutions.” Can Karen help it if a certain highly sensitive tidbit of information just happens to fall onto her desktop? Is a little blackmail between co-workers really so wrong? With both her work life and her home life threatening to crash down around her, Karen struggles to choose between what she knows is right... and what sounds like a hell of a lot more fun. Establishing a link between tourism studies and development studies, it considers what is meant by 'development', the processes through which development may be achieved and, in particular, a number of fundamental issues related to the use of tourism as a development agent. In so doing, it challenges conventional thinking about the relationship between tourism and development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: E-Co-Affectivity is a philosophical investigation of affectivity in various forms of life: photosynthesis and growth in plants, touch and trauma in bird feathers, the ontogenesis of human life through the placenta, the bare interface of human skin, and the porous materiality of soil. Combining biology, phenomenology, Ancient Greek thought, new materialisms, environmental philosophy, and affect studies, Marjolein Oele thinks through the concrete, living places that show the receptive, responsive power of living beings to be affected and to affect. She focuses on these localized interfaces to explain how affectivity emerges in places that are always evolving, creative, porous, and fluid. Every interface is material, but is also "more" than its current materiality in cocreating place, time, and being. After extensively describing the effects of the milieu and community within which each example of affectivity takes place, in the final chapter Oele adds a prescriptive, ethical lens that formulates a new epoch beyond the Anthropocene, one that is sensitive to the larger ecological, communal concerns at stake.

Darcy had grown up in a small, quiet logging town in Northern Idaho. Her uncles alpaca ranch is an hour from town. To fight the lonely times, she became a top marksman winning three trophies against all the members of Waltons Shooting Club, which Darcy got a kick from the status of beating all the guys. With only one year left of school, she and her girlfriends were excited about their summer plans, staying at a cabin by themselves for a week and finally being asked to the prestigious Priest Lake Dock party. But a week before school is out on May 29th, over 1500 miles away, an earthquake registering 8.9 on the Richter scale hit California. This event changes not only the lives of the people in the area, but it also affects the people as far up as the panhandle of Idaho.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the life and work of Darcy Ribeiro (1922–1997), one of the foremost exponents of Brazilian/Latin American Social thought in the 20th century. Ribeiro was an anthropologist, indigenist ethnographer, social scientist, and planner and creator of universities and schools and held various political offices. This book examines Ribeiro’s work in conversation with other great names of Latin American critical thought and introduces the contemporary epistemological movement he inspired, ‘Modernity-Coloniality-Decoloniality’. It presents the 12 years of Latin American exile to which he was subjected in the 1960s to 1970s, highlighting the fame he gained as a reformer of universities on the continent. Finally, the book builds two new dialogues unheard of, one with Black Brazilian intellectuals and the other with contemporary post(de) colonial studies. This book will appeal to all those interested in studying global asymmetries, social inequalities, and obstacles to development in Latin America. Scholars and students of Sociology, Social Theory, Anthropology, Latin American Studies, Political History, and Education will find it useful.
