Book Synopsis Object-oriented Programming in Pascal by : D. Brookshire Conner
Download or read book Object-oriented Programming in Pascal written by D. Brookshire Conner and published by Addison-Wesley Professional. This book was released on 1995 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rather than taking the more traditional "procedural" approach, the authors take an object-oriented approach from the start to teach introductory programming concepts. Focusing on effective use of objects, they concentrate on building programs from an object library, reusing the objects, and developing classes and methods.
Book Synopsis Programming in Modula-2 by : N. Wirth
Download or read book Programming in Modula-2 written by N. Wirth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is an introduction to programming in general, and a manual for programming with the language Modula-2 in particular. It is oriented primarily towards people who have already acquired some basic knowledge of programming and would like to deepen their understanding in a more structured way. Nevertheless, an introductory chapter is included for the benefit of the beginner, displaying in a concise form some of the fundamental concepts of computers and their programming. The text is therefore also suitable as a self-contained tutorial. The notation used is Modula-2, which lends itself well for a structured approach and leads the student to a working style that has generally become known under the title of structured programming. As a manual for programming in Modula-2, the text covers practically all facilities of that language. Part 1 covers the basic notions of the variable, expression, assignment, conditional and repetitive statement, and array data structure. Together with Part 2 which introduces the important concept of the procedure or subroutine, it contains essentially the material commonly discussed in introductory programming courses. Part 3 concerns data types and structures and constitutes the essence of an advanced course on programming. Part 4 introduces the notion of the module, a concept that is fundamental to the design of larger programmed systems and to programming as team work. The most commonly used utility programs for input and output are presented as examples of modules. And fmally, Part 5 covers facilities for system programming, device handling, and multiprogramming.

This is a very useful guide for undergraduate and graduate engineering students. Its clear analytic explanations in simple language also make it suitable for study by polytechnic students. Beginners and professionals alike will benefit from the numerous examples and extensive exercises developed to guide readers through each concept. Step-by-step program code clarifies the concept usage and syntax of C language constructs and the underlying logic of their applications. Data structures are treated with algorithms, trace of the procedures and then programs. All data structures are illustrated with simple examples and diagrams. The concept of "learning by example" has been emphasized throughout the book. Every important feature of the language is illustrated in depth by a complete programming example. Wherever necessary, pictorial descriptions of concepts are included to facilitate better understanding. The common C programs for the C & Data Structures Laboratory practice appended at the end of the book is a new feature of this edition. Exercises are included at the end of each chapter. The exercises are divided in three parts: (i) multiple-choice questions which test the understanding of the fundamentals and are also useful for taking competitive tests, (ii) questions and answers to help the undergraduate students, and (iii) review questions and problems to enhance the comprehension of the subject. Questions from GATE in Computer Science and Engineering are included to support the students who will be taking GATE examination.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume combines the proceedings of the 1987 SEI Conference on Software Engineering Education, held in Monroeville, Pennsylvania on April 30 and May 1, 1987, with the set of papers that formed the basis for that conference. The conference was sponsored by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegie-Mellon University. SEI is a federally-funded research and development center established by the United States Department of Defense to improve the state of software technology. The Education Division of SEI is charged with improving the state of software engineering education. This is the third volume on software engineering education to be pub lished by Springer-Verlag. The first (Software Engineering Education: Needs and Objectives, edited by Tony Wasserman and Peter Freeman) was published in 1976. That volume documented a workshop in which educa tors and industrialists explored needs and objectives in software engineering education. The second volume (Software Engineering Education: The Educational Needs of the Software Community, edited by Norm Gibbs and Richard Fairley) was published in 1986. The 1986 volume contained the proceedings of a limited attendance workshop held at SEI and sponsored by SEI and Wang Institute. In contrast to the 1986 Workshop, which was limited in attendance to 35 participants, the 1987 Conference attracted approximately 180 participants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thecircleisclosed. The European Modula-2 Conference was originally launched with the goal of increasing the popularity of Modula-2, a programming language created by Niklaus Wirth and his team at ETH Zuric ̈ h as a successor of Pascal. For more than a decade, the conference has wandered through Europe, passing Bled,Slovenia,in1987,Loughborough,UK,in1990,Ulm,Germany,in1994,and Linz, Austria, in 1997. Now, at the beginning of the new millennium, it is back at its roots in Zuric ̈ h, Switzerland. While traveling through space and time, the conference has mutated. It has widened its scope and changed its name to Joint Modular Languages Conference (JMLC). With an invariant focus, though, on modularsoftwareconstructioninteaching, research, and“outthere”inindustry. This topic has never been more important than today, ironically not because of insu?cient language support but, quite on the contrary, due to a truly c- fusing variety of modular concepts o?ered by modern languages: modules, pa- ages, classes, and components, the newest and still controversial trend. “The recent notion of component is still very vaguely de?ned, so vaguely, in fact, that it almost seems advisable to ignore it.” (Wirth in his article “Records, Modules, Objects, Classes, Components” in honor of Hoare’s retirement in 1999). Clar- cation is needed.
