Book Synopsis Plant Programmed Cell Death by : Arunika N. Gunawardena
Download or read book Plant Programmed Cell Death written by Arunika N. Gunawardena and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Programmed cell death (PCD) is a genetically encoded, active process which results in the death of individual cells, tissues, or whole organs. PCD plays an essential role in plant development and defense, and occurs throughout a plant’s lifecycle from the death of the embryonic suspensor to leaf and floral organ senescence. In plant biology, PCD is a relatively new research area, however, as its fundamental importance is further recognized, publications in the area are beginning to increase significantly. The field currently has few foundational reference books and there is a critical need for books that summarizes recent findings in this important area. This book contains chapters written by several of the world’s leading researchers in PCD. This book will be invaluable for PhD or graduate students, or for scientists and researchers entering the field. Established researchers will also find this timely work useful as an up-to-date overview of this fascinating research area.
Book Synopsis Programmed Cell Death in Plants and Animals by : Josephine Rice
Download or read book Programmed Cell Death in Plants and Animals written by Josephine Rice and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2016 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Both autophagy and programmed cell death (PCD) are fundamental processes of cellular maintenance that are closely interrelated in plant and animal cells under physiological and stressful conditions. Differentiation, immune response, lack of nutrients, and wide range of abiotic factors induce their development and realization of survival or cell death scenario. Microtubular cytoskeleton is known as one of the principle players in the mediation of PCD/autophagic signals. Chapter One in this book presents an overview of the current knowledge about the role of MTs in PCD- and autophagy-related processes in plants. Chapter Two reviews the mechanisms and consequences of virus interactions with the hotel cell-death machinery, to help understand potentially pathologically relevant consequences that will help in the design of intervention strategies and the development of antiviral therapies. The final chapter discusses the control of the levels of different reactive oxygen species (ROS) and their interaction with hormones and transcriptional factors in relation with programmed cell death in leaves.

Book Synopsis Plant Proteases by : Mercedes Diaz-Mendoza
Download or read book Plant Proteases written by Mercedes Diaz-Mendoza and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2020-01-24 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant proteases are involved in most aspects of plant physiology and development, playing key roles in the generation of signaling molecules and as regulators of essential cellular processes such as cell division and metabolism. They take part in important pathways like protein turnover by the degradation of misfolded proteins and the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway, and they are responsible for post-translational modifications of proteins by proteolysis at highly specific sites. Proteases are also implicated in a great variety of environmentally controlled processes, including mobilization of storage proteins during seed germination, development of seedlings, senescence, programmed cell death and defense mechanisms against pests and pathogens. However, in spite of their importance, little is known about the functions and mode of actions of specific plant proteases. This Research Topic collects contributions covering diverse aspects of plant proteases research.

Book Synopsis Apoptosis and Beyond by : James A. Radosevich
Download or read book Apoptosis and Beyond written by James A. Radosevich and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes teach readers to think beyond apoptosis and describes all of the known processes that cells can undergo which result in cell death This two-volume source on how cells dies is the first, comprehensive collection to cover all of the known processes that cells undergo when they die. It is also the only one of its kind to compare these processes. It seeks to enlighten those in the field about these many processes and to stimulate their thinking at looking at these pathways when their research system does not show signs of activation of the classic apoptotic pathway. In addition, it links activities like the molecular biology of one process (eg. Necrosis) to another process (eg. apoptosis) and contrasts those that are close to each. Volume 1 of Apoptosis and Beyond: The Many Ways Cells Die begins with a general view of the cytoplasmic and nuclear features of apoptosis. It then goes on to offer chapters on targeting the cell death mechanism; microbial programmed cell death; autophagy; cell injury, adaptation, and necrosis; necroptosis; ferroptosis; anoikis; pyronecrosis; and more. Volume 2 covers such subjects as phenoptosis; pyroptosis; hematopoiesis and eryptosis; cyclophilin d-dependent necrosis; and the role of phospholipase in cell death. Covers all known processes that dying cells undergo Provides extensive coverage of a topic not fully covered before Offers chapters written by top researchers in the field Provides activities that link and contrast processes to each other Apoptosis and Beyond: The Many Ways Cells Die will appeal to students and researchers/clinicians in cell biology, molecular biology, oncology, and tumor biology.
Book Synopsis The Biology of Death by : Gary C. Howard
Download or read book The Biology of Death written by Gary C. Howard and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Everyone dies, and so, we naturally associate death with the end of an individual life. However, life is much more complicated, and death is actually interwoven into biology at many levels. Normal development and life could not exist without carefully regulated death of certain cells and as one defense against disease. Other cells wear out and die and must be replaced regularly. On a larger scale, death has influenced the direction of entire species. In fact, death has shaped all life through the cycle of life and death, throughout time, and in normal development. It affects our cells, our development, and our life"--
Book Synopsis Magnesium in the Central Nervous System by : Robert Vink
Download or read book Magnesium in the Central Nervous System written by Robert Vink and published by University of Adelaide Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The brain is the most complex organ in our body. Indeed, it is perhaps the most complex structure we have ever encountered in nature. Both structurally and functionally, there are many peculiarities that differentiate the brain from all other organs. The brain is our connection to the world around us and by governing nervous system and higher function, any disturbance induces severe neurological and psychiatric disorders that can have a devastating effect on quality of life. Our understanding of the physiology and biochemistry of the brain has improved dramatically in the last two decades. In particular, the critical role of cations, including magnesium, has become evident, even if incompletely understood at a mechanistic level. The exact role and regulation of magnesium, in particular, remains elusive, largely because intracellular levels are so difficult to routinely quantify. Nonetheless, the importance of magnesium to normal central nervous system activity is self-evident given the complicated homeostatic mechanisms that maintain the concentration of this cation within strict limits essential for normal physiology and metabolism. There is also considerable accumulating evidence to suggest alterations to some brain functions in both normal and pathological conditions may be linked to alterations in local magnesium concentration. This book, containing chapters written by some of the foremost experts in the field of magnesium research, brings together the latest in experimental and clinical magnesium research as it relates to the central nervous system. It offers a complete and updated view of magnesiums involvement in central nervous system function and in so doing, brings together two main pillars of contemporary neuroscience research, namely providing an explanation for the molecular mechanisms involved in brain function, and emphasizing the connections between the molecular changes and behavior. It is the untiring efforts of those magnesium researchers who have dedicated their lives to unraveling the mysteries of magnesiums role in biological systems that has inspired the collation of this volume of work.

Download or read book The Plant Cytoskeleton written by Bo Liu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-23 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant cells house highly dynamic cytoskeletal networks of microtubules and actin microfilaments. They constantly undergo remodeling to fulfill their roles in supporting cell division, enlargement, and differentiation. Following early studies on structural aspects of the networks, recent breakthroughs have connected them with more and more intracellular events essential for plant growth and development. Advanced technologies in cell biology (live-cell imaging in particular), molecular genetics, genomics, and proteomics have revolutionized this field of study. Stories summarized in this book may inspire enthusiastic scientists to pursue new directions toward understanding functions of the plant cytoskeleton. The Plant Cytoskeleton is divided into three sections: 1) Molecular Basis of the Plant Cytoskeleton; 2) Cytoskeletal Reorganization in Plant Cell Division; and 3) The Cytoskeleton in Plant Growth and Development. This book is aimed at serving as a resource for anyone who wishes to learn about the plant cytoskeleton beyond ordinary textbooks.
