Book Synopsis Pari de la Franchise by : Stéphane Dion
Download or read book Pari de la Franchise written by Stéphane Dion and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1999-10-29 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Health Systems in Transition written by Gregory Marchildon and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2013-11-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The health care system in Canada is much-discussed in the international sphere, but often overlooked when it comes to its highly decentralized administration and regulation. Health Systems in Transition: Canada provides an objective description and analysis of the public, private, and mixed components that make up health care in Canada today including the federal, provincial, intergovernmental and regional dynamics within the public system. Gregory P. Marchildon’s study offers a statistical and visual description of the many facets of Canadian health care financing, administration, and service delivery, along with relevant comparisons to five other countries’ systems. This second edition includes a major update on health data and institutions, a new appendix of federal laws concerning select provincial and territorial Medicare legislation, and, for the first time, a comprehensive and searchable index. It also provides a more complete assessment of the Canadian health system based on financial protection, efficiency, equity, user experience, quality of care, and health outcomes. Balancing careful assessment, summary, and illustration, Health Systems in Transition: Canada is a thorough and illuminating look at one of the nation's most complex public policies and associated institutions.

Book Synopsis A Question of Commitment by : Thomas Waldock
Download or read book A Question of Commitment written by Thomas Waldock and published by Wilfrid Laurier Univ. Press. This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), commentators began to situate the evolution of the status of children within the context of the “property to persons” trajectory that other human rights stories had followed. In the first edition of A Question of Commitment, editors R. Brian Howe and Katherine Covell provided a template of analysis for understanding this evolution. They identified three overlapping stages of development as children transitioned from being regarded as objects to subjects in their own right: social laissez-faire, paternalistic protection, and children’s rights. In the social laissez-faire stage, children are regarded as objects, and largely as the property of parents. In the paternalistic protection stage, children are seen as vulnerable and in need of protection. The children’s rights stage lays emphasis on children as rights-bearers, as individuals in their own right with entitlements. In this second edition, new essays assess the extent to which children’s rights have been incorporated into their respective areas of policy and law. The authors draw conclusions about what the situation reveals about the status of children in Canada. Overall, many challenges remain on the pathway to full recognition and citizenship.

Book Synopsis Global Public Health by : Robert Beaglehole
Download or read book Global Public Health written by Robert Beaglehole and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-07-09 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global Public Health: a new era is a comprehensive updated account of the international state of public health, including an agenda for improving the practice of the discipline across the world. It addresses three major issues: - the changing global context for public health - the state of public health theory and practice in developed and developing countries; and - strategies for strengthening the practice of public health Section one surveys the complex old and new challenges facing public health practitioners, and then summarises the state of health globally using new data based on measures of the Global Burden of Disease developed by the Word Health Organization, and other groups, to better describe population health states and trends. Section two presents the first detailed review of the global state of public health. It analyses the public health situation in all regions of the world. Six chapters cover Europe, Latin America, and Australia and New Zealand.. Three chapters cover China, India, and Sub-Saharan Africa. The lessons from these chapters are surprisingly similar: the challenges are great; the public health workforce and infrastructure have long been neglected; and much needs to be done to reinvigorate the practice of public health. The third section covers several cross cutting themes, including the developing field of international public health ethics and the central and neglected role of the public in strengthening the practice of public health and the opportunities for building the capacity of the public health workforce to respond to the major global health needs.
