Book Synopsis Products That Last by : Conny Bakker
Download or read book Products That Last written by Conny Bakker and published by BIS Publishers. This book was released on 2019-10-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Products that Last starts where most books on product development end. This new edition (first self-published by the TU Delft in 2014) contains new examples and insights from recent publications. From the perspective of designers and entrepreneurs, once a product has been designed, produced and sold, it disappears beyond the newness horizon. They are little aware of the opportunities that exist in the next product universe, where money is made from products in use, as well as from a product's afterlife. These opportunities clearly exist, otherwise they would not be providing an income for so many people. However, to be recognized as segments of a circle of continuous value creation, they need reframing. The book offers readers an innovative and practical methodology to unravel a product's afterlife and systematically evaluate it for new opportunities. It introduces business models that enable us to benefit from the opportunities offered by a much longer product life. Products that Last changes the way designers and entrepreneurs develop and exploit goods, helping reduce material and energy consumption over time. Nothing more, nothing less.

Download or read book The Start-up PUSH written by Terri Friel and published by IAP. This book was released on 2018-07-01 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores, documents and establishes how to help founders start businesses with the collaboration of local and international resources. An incubator, accelerator or science park all have this goal but provide a variety of foci and support. At a minimum, it’s important to not only attract entrepreneurs but to have support services that can include mentoring, financial support and other services that make the incubator really filled with energy and potential. It’s becoming insufficient to just have office space and WiFi. It is also important to develop good interactions between directors, the start-up community and residents. Managing the community to help residents to launch successfully is the main goal of the director. It’s also important to stay abreast of the innovations happening in start-up support. Today there are many ways to incubate from bare bones office space to Incubator 1.0 space with some support to Incubator 2.0 with a great deal of support including a fund. For that reason, it’s important to develop a clear strategy for the type, style, clientele and support that will be built. This book provides guidance in three main areas: 1) What are the different options for incubators, accelerators and science parks, 2) How to assist the start-up founders (residents) and 3) How to manage the space.

Book Synopsis Bone Aging and Osteoporosis: Recent Evidence Focusing on Plant-Based Natural Products by : Lingfeng Zeng
Download or read book Bone Aging and Osteoporosis: Recent Evidence Focusing on Plant-Based Natural Products written by Lingfeng Zeng and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-03-08 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human skeleton undergoes a life-long remodeling process. Bone homeostasis requires a potential balance between bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts. With old age, bone homeostasis undergoes deregulation, and normal bone remodeling could not make bone mass stable, thus causing osteopenia and osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease characterized by reduced bone mass, degraded bone microstructure, increased bone fragility and raised risk of fracture. Osteoporosis is a frequently occurring and common disease in the aging population, especially in postmenopausal women and elderly men. The updated research found that one-third of women aged 60 to 70 suffer from osteoporosis; Two-thirds of women aged 80 years or older have osteoporosis. About 20-25% of women over 50 years of age have one or more vertebral fractures. Recent research evidence indicates that an increasing number of plant-based natural products (or secondary metabolites), such as polyunsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols, flavonoids, and other botanicals active compounds, have beneficial effects on the risk of osteoporosis. Compared with conventional therapies, plant-based natural products with thousands of years of medical use experience are gradually approved for clinical use due to fewer adverse reactions, low toxicity, high efficiency and good tolerance. Natural products have been an important source of inspiration for new drug development. However, most of the evidence regarding the anti-osteoporosis effects of natural products comes from in vitro and preclinical in vivo studies, and only a few natural products have been used clinically. All of these above-mentioned still require rigorously designed studies and further verification.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Stored Product Protection by : Christos G. Athanassiou
Download or read book Recent Advances in Stored Product Protection written by Christos G. Athanassiou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-19 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to assess, evaluate and critically analyze the methods that are currently available for a judicious pest management in durable food. It presents and analyzes a vast amount of methods that are already in use in “real world” industrial applications. After the phase-out of methyl bromide, but also the withdrawal of several insecticides and the continuously updated food safety regulations, there is a significant knowledge gap on the use of risk-reduced, ecologically-compatible control methods that can be used with success against stored-product insect species and related arthropods. The importance of integrated pest management (IPM) is growing, but the concept as practiced for stored products might differ from IPM as historically developed for field crops. This book discusses a wide variety of control strategies used for stored product management and describes some of the IPM components. The editors included chemical and non-chemical methods, as both are essential in IPM. They set the scene for more information regarding emerging issues in stored product protection, such as emerging, alien and invasive species as threats for global food security, as well as the importance of stored-product arthropods for human health. Finally, the analysis of the economics of stored product protection is presented, from theory to practice.
