Book Synopsis Bringing Climate Change Into Natural Resource Management by : Linda Joyce
Download or read book Bringing Climate Change Into Natural Resource Management written by Linda Joyce and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 895 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workshop furthers the dialogue among scientists, land managers, landowners, interested stakeholders & the public about how individuals are addressing climate change in natural resource management. Discussions illustrated the complexity of global climate change & the need for managers to consider how the impacts of climate change will unfold across regional & local landscapes. The workshop offered examples of how managers are already responding to those aspects of the global climate change that they can see or perceive. While no comprehensive solutions emerged, there was an appreciation that policy complexity may exceed the science complexity but that eventually the accumulation of local actions will shape the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crucible of innovation in wildlife and habitat conservation is in southern Africa where it has co-evolved with decolonization, political transformation and the rise of development, ownership, management and livelihood debates. Charting this innovation, early chapters deal with the traditional 'fines and fences' conservation that occurred in the colonial and early post-independence period, with subsequent sections focussing on the experimentation and innovation that occurred on private and communal land as a result of the break from these traditional methods. The final section deals with mo.

Book Synopsis Advancing Sustainability of U.S.-Mexico Transboundary Drylands by : Academia Mexicana de Ciencias, Academia de Ingeniería de México y Academia Nacional de Medicina de México
Download or read book Advancing Sustainability of U.S.-Mexico Transboundary Drylands written by Academia Mexicana de Ciencias, Academia de Ingeniería de México y Academia Nacional de Medicina de México and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2019-01-27 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The drylands region shared by the United States and Mexico currently faces multiple sustainability challenges at the intersection of the human and natural systems. Warming and drying conditions threaten surface water and groundwater availability, disrupt land- and marine-based livelihood systems, and challenge the sustainability of human settlements. These biophysical challenges are exacerbated by a highly mobile and dynamic population, volatile economic and policy conditions, increased exposure to extreme events, and urbanization on marginal, vulnerable lands. The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine collaborated with the Mexican Academy of Sciences, Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine to plan a 2-day binational workshop, Advancing Sustainability of U.S.-Mexico Transboundary Drylands. The workshop goals were to highlight the challenges facing the region, assess the scientific and technical capacity that each nation can bring to bear in addressing these challenges, and identify new opportunities for binational research collaboration and coordinated management approaches in the advancement of sustainability science and development. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussions from the workshop.
