Our records show that 1,263 claims were approved and paid during the abovementioned year, sub-divided as follows: Members' beneficial claims.......................... $97,071.80 Members' disability claims.......................... 6,200.00 Members' semi-beneficial claims..................... 9,075.00 Wife's funeral benefits.............................. 20,192.60 $132,539.40 CAUSES OF DEATH. Of the aforementioned claims our records show that 25 per cent. of the deaths were the result _of tuberculosis, commonly known as consumption; 331 per cent. were from typhoid fever, gastritis and heart failure; 10 per cent. were accidents, and the balance 31% per cent. were from ordinary causes. DISAPPROVED CLAIMS. The total number of disapproved claims was 211, and were rejected for the following reasons: Owed six months' dues.................................... 9 Not full beneficial......................................... 11 Over age when husband was admitted..................... 15 In arrears when death occurred............................ 127 Sick when admitted........................................ 49 You will note by the above that 60 per cent. of the claims were disapproved on account of the member being in arrears at time of death. Of those sick when admitted our records show that 33; per cent. were disapproved on account of the deceased having suffered for some time from tuberculosis or consumption. Forty per cent. were disapproved on account of the deceased dying from chronic gastritis, typhoid fever...
