Book Synopsis Protocols, Strands, and Logic by : Daniel Dougherty
Download or read book Protocols, Strands, and Logic written by Daniel Dougherty and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Festschrift was published in honor of Joshua Guttman on the occasion of his 66.66 birthday. The impact of his work is reflected in the 23 contributions enclosed in this volume. Joshua’s most influential and enduring contribution to the field has been the development of the strand space formalism for analyzing cryptographic protocols. It is one of several “symbolic approaches” to security protocol analysis in which the underlying details of cryptographic primitives are abstracted away, allowing a focus on potential flaws in the communication patterns between participants. His attention to the underlying logic of strand spaces has also allowed him to merge domain-specific reasoning about protocols with general purpose, first-order logical theories. The identification of clear principles in a domain paves the way to automated reasoning, and Joshua has been a leader in the development and distribution of several tools for security analysis.

Book Synopsis Analysis Techniques for Information Security by : Anupam Datta
Download or read book Analysis Techniques for Information Security written by Anupam Datta and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly our critical infrastructures are reliant on computers. We see examples of such infrastructures in several domains, including medical, power, telecommunications, and finance. Although automation has advantages, increased reliance on computers exposes our critical infrastructures to a wider variety and higher likelihood of accidental failures and malicious attacks. Disruption of services caused by such undesired events can have catastrophic effects, such as disruption of essential services and huge financial losses. The increased reliance of critical services on our cyberinfrastructure and the dire consequences of security breaches have highlighted the importance of information security. Authorization, security protocols, and software security are three central areas in security in which there have been significant advances in developing systematic foundations and analysis methods that work for practical systems. This book provides an introduction to this work, covering representative approaches, illustrated by examples, and providing pointers to additional work in the area. Table of Contents: Introduction / Foundations / Detecting Buffer Overruns Using Static Analysis / Analyzing Security Policies / Analyzing Security Protocols

Book Synopsis Programming Languages and Systems by : Pierpaolo Degano
Download or read book Programming Languages and Systems written by Pierpaolo Degano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-03-14 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comparison is a powerful cognitive research tool in science since it does 'across studies' to evaluate similarities and differences, e.g. across taxa or diseases. This book deals with comparative research on plant disease epidemics. Comparisons are done in specifically designed experiments or with posterior analyses. From the apparently unlimited diversity of epidemics of hundreds of diseases, comparative epidemiology may eventually extract a number of basic types. These findings are very important to crop protection. Plant disease epidemiology, being the ecological branch of plant pathology, may also be of value to ecologists, but also epidemiologists in the areas of animal or human diseases may find interesting results, applicable to their areas of research.

Book Synopsis Secure Key Establishment by : Kim-Kwang Raymond Choo
Download or read book Secure Key Establishment written by Kim-Kwang Raymond Choo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-10-25 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on Secure Key Establishment has become very active within the last few years. Secure Key Establishment discusses the problems encountered in this field. This book also introduces several improved protocols with new proofs of security. Secure Key Establishment identifies several variants of the key sharing requirement. Several variants of the widely accepted Bellare and Rogaway (1993) model are covered. A comparative study of the relative strengths of security notions between these variants of the Bellare–Rogaway model and the Canetti–Krawczyk model is included. An integrative framework is proposed that allows protocols to be analyzed in a modified version of the Bellare–Rogaway model using the automated model checker tool. Secure Key Establishment is designed for advanced level students in computer science and mathematics, as a secondary text or reference book. This book is also suitable for practitioners and researchers working for defense agencies or security companies.

Download or read book Communicating Sequential Processes. The First 25 Years written by Ali E. Abdallah and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-05-04 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, like the symposium CSP25 which gave rise to it, commemorates the semi-jubilee of Communicating Sequential Processes. 1 Tony Hoare’s paper “Communicating Sequential Processes” is today widely regarded as one of the most in?uential papers in computer science. To comm- orate it, an event was organized under the auspices of BCS-FACS (the British Computer Society’s Formal Aspects of Computing Science specialist group). CSP25 was one of a series of such events organized to highlight the use of formal methods, emphasize their relevance to modern computing and promote their wider application. BCS-FACS is proud that Tony Hoare presented his original ideas on CSP at one of its ?rst meetings, in 1978. The two-day event, 7–8 July 2004, was hosted by London South Bank U- versity’s Institute for Computing Research, Faculty of Business, Computing and Information Management. The intention was to celebrate, re?ect upon and look beyondthe?rstquarter-centuryofCSP’scontributionstocomputerscience. The meeting examined the impact of CSP on many areas stretching from semantics (mathematical models for understanding concurrency and communications) and logic(forreasoningaboutbehavior),throughthedesignofparallelprogramming languages (i/o, parallelism, synchronization and threads) to applications va- ing from distributed software and parallel computing to information security, Web services and concurrent hardware circuits. It included a panel discussion with panelists Brookes, Hoare, de Roever and Roscoe (chaired by Je? Sanders), poster presentations by PhD students and others, featured a ?re alarm (requ- ing evacuation in the rain!) and concluded with the presentation of a fountain pen to Prof. Sir C. A. R. Hoare.
