Book Synopsis Mechanical Vibration and Shock Analysis, Fatigue Damage by : Christian Lalanne
Download or read book Mechanical Vibration and Shock Analysis, Fatigue Damage written by Christian Lalanne and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mechanical Vibration and Shock Analysis, Second Edition Volume 4: Fatigue Damage Fatigue damage in a system with one degree of freedom is one of the two criteria applied when comparing the severity of vibratory environments. The same criterion is also employed for a specification representing the effects produced by the set of vibrations imposed in a real-world environment. In this volume, which is devoted to the calculation of fatigue damage, the author explores the various hypotheses and models used to describe the behavior of material suffering fatigue and the laws of fatigue accumulation. He also considers the methods of counting response peaks, which are used to establish a histogram when it is impossible to use the probability density of the peaks obtained with a Gaussian signal. The expressions for mean damage and its standard deviation are established and other hypotheses are tested. The Mechanical Vibration and Shock Analysis five-volume series has been written with both the professional engineer and the academic in mind. Christian Lalanne explores every aspect of vibration and shock, two fundamental and extremely significant areas of mechanical engineering, from both a theoretical and practical point of view. The five volumes cover all the necessary issues in this area of mechanical engineering. The theoretical analyses are placed in the context of both the real world and the laboratory, which is essential for the development of specifications.
Book Synopsis Fracture Control Procedures for Aircraft Structural Integrity by : Howard A. Wood
Download or read book Fracture Control Procedures for Aircraft Structural Integrity written by Howard A. Wood and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report reviews the application of applied fracture mechanics in the design, analysis and qualification of aircraft structural systems. Recent service experiences are cited. Current trends in high strength materials application are reviewed with particular emphasis on the manner in which fracture toughness and structural efficiency may affect the material selection process. General fracture control procedures are reviewed in depth with specific reference to the impact of inspectability, structural arrangement and material on proposed analysis requirements for safe crack growth. The relative impact on allowable design stress is indicated by example. Design criteria, material and analysis requirements for implementation of fracture control procedures are reviewed together with limitation in current available data techniques. A summary of items which require further study and attention is presented.

Book Synopsis The Early Detection of Fatigue Damage by : John F. Moore
Download or read book The Early Detection of Fatigue Damage written by John F. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fatigue process of 1100-0 aluminum was studied by means of exoelectron emission and ultrasonic surface wave measurements, and correlated with metallographic examination. Measurement of exoelectrons was accomplished by emission counts, amplified by a Channeltron electron multiplier and integrated over short time intervals. It appears that very early in the fatigue process there is an exoelectron emission peak, whose intensity is related to the intensity of the applied stress, coinciding with initial surface layer slip. The emission event lasts not more than a few percent of the fatigue life. No emission occurs thenceforth until in the final stages of fatigue, just prior to failure, when another emission period is observed. It was further noted that, at least at room temperature, light stimulation is necessary for exoelectron emission from 1100-0 aluminum. Preliminary ultrasonic surface wave measurements disclose a change in material response at about 50 percent of the fatigue life, which so far could not be correlated with metallographic observations. Book Synopsis The Praetorian STARShip : the untold story of the Combat Talon by :
Download or read book The Praetorian STARShip : the untold story of the Combat Talon written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jerry Thigpen's study on the history of the Combat Talon is the first effort to tell the story of this wonderfully capable machine. This weapons system has performed virtually every imaginable tactical event in the spectrum of conflict and by any measure is the most versatile C-130 derivative ever produced. First modified and sent to Southeast Asia (SEA) in 1966 to replace theater unconventional warfare (UW) assets that were limited in both lift capability and speed the Talon I quickly adapted to theater UW tasking including infiltration and resupply and psychological warfare operations into North Vietnam. After spending four years in SEA and maturing into a highly respected UW weapons system the Joint Chief of Staff (JCS) chose the Combat Talon to lead the night low-level raid on the North Vietnamese prison camp at Son Tay. Despite the outcome of the operation the Talon I cemented its reputation as the weapons system of choice for long-range clandestine operations. In the period following the Vietnam War United States Air Force (USAF) special operations gradually lost its political and financial support which was graphically demonstrated in the failed Desert One mission into Iran. Thanks to congressional supporters like Earl Hutto of Florida and Dan Daniel of Virginia funds for aircraft upgrades and military construction projects materialized to meet the ever-increasing threat to our nation. Under the leadership of such committed hard-driven officers as Brenci Uttaro Ferkes Meller and Thigpen the crew force became the most disciplined in our Air Force. It was capable of penetrating hostile airspace at night in a low-level mountainous environment covertly to execute any number of unconventional warfare missions.
