Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This year marks the eighth annual ASAP workshop, which is sponsored jointly by the DARPA Advanced and Tactical Technology Offices, the Navy AEGIS and E2C Program Offices, the Office of Naval Research and the NAVSEA Advanced Systems and Technology Office. This year, the first IEEE Sensor Array and Multichannel (SAM) Signal Processing Workshop in nearby Cambridge, Massachusetts will follow the ASAP workshop on 16-17 March 2000. This unique pairing of ASAP with SAM will provide an unparalleled opportunity for the adaptive sensor array processing community, combining ASAP's focus on state-of-the-art signal processing advances for military systems with the broader international scope and strong academic participation of the IEEE SAM workshop. As this workshop has evolved over its eight-year history, a common theme has been to highlight the similarity of adaptive sensor processing techniques for various disciplines. The ASAP forum has provided researchers from academia, government, and industry the opportunity to discuss common problems and develop ideas and solutions related to how these diverse technologies can be applied to national defense interests. This year's workshop will continue to stress the strong coupling between government, industry, and academia. A key theme will be the cross-fertilization of ideas between the ASAP and SAM participants to provide new areas of exploration and accelerate technological advances.

Book excerpt: In order to provide the capability for submarines to communicate through a satellite while remaining submerged and traveling at operational speeds a towed buoyant cable array antenna is being developed. The array is adaptive from the point of view that the direction of the satellite need not be known, the position and orientation of the array need not be know, and the shape of the flexible array need not be known. A blind equalization procedure is used to estimate the signal space from the downlink signal and create a spatial matched filter for receive. While the frequency division satellite system is intended to allow only one signal per frequency slot, the system can also operate in the presence of jamming by separating multiple sources spatially. Once the downlink receive antenna weights have been obtained, the more difficult task of obtaining uplink weights at a separated frequency must be performed. Since no data is available for blind equalization at the transmit frequency a frequency extrapolation method is used to extend the downlink receive weights to frequencies beyond where the equalization data was collected. This extrapolation is complicated by 2.pi ambiguities of the measured phases as well as amplification of measurement errors in the extrapolation process.

Book excerpt: This year marks the seventh annual ASAP workshop, which is sponsored jointly by the DARPA Sensor Technology and Tactical Technology Offices, the Navy AEGIS and E2C Program Offices, and the NAVSEA Advanced Systems and Technology Office. This joint sponsorship reflects the far-reaching implications of adaptive sensor array processing for a wide range of military applications. As this workshop has evolved over its seven year history, a common theme has been to highlight the similarity of adaptive sensor processing techniques for various disciplines. The ASAP forum has allowed researchers from academia, government, and industry to discuss common problems, developing ideas, and solutions related to how these diverse technologies can be applied to national defense interests. This year will continue to stress the strong coupling between the radar, sonar, and communications communities. A key theme will be the system implications of adaptive signal processing techniques. It is hoped that the cross- fertilization of ideas at ASAP will provide new areas of exploration and accelerate technological advances benefiting national defense interests.

ABSTRACT: The twelfth annual workshop on Adaptive Sensor Array Processing presented a diverse agenda featuring new work on adaptive methods for communications, radar and sonar, algorithmic challenges posed by novel system concepts, and sensor systems' performance results ranging from signal processing to detection and tracking. The exceptional quality of this year's submissions is reflected in the increased number of presentations, especially in the poster and classified sessions. This year's workshop maintains ASAP's traditional focus on experimentally tested adaptive signal processing solutions to national defense needs and commercial sensor systems. ASAP 2004 is sponsored jointly by the DARPA Special Projects Office, the Office of Naval Research, and the NAVSEA Program Executive Office for Integrated Warfare Systems (PEO IWS 2.0 and 5A4). The workshop continues to stress the cross-fertilization of ideas that exists between government, industry, and academia, and strives to be a forum for researchers from each of these communities. This year's program covered a wide range of topics in adaptive systems. The first day's sessions focused on space-time adaptive processing, detection and estimation, and communications. The second day had a new session on tracking and its relation to adaptive processing, as well as a session on adaptive beamforming and a second communications session. The third day had classified sessions on adaptive techniques in radar and sonar, emphasizing performance evaluation with field data.

Book Synopsis Moon-Face and Other Stories by : Jack London
Download or read book Moon-Face and Other Stories written by Jack London and published by Lindhardt og Ringhof. This book was released on 2021-07-07 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We’ve all taken a dislike to someone for no real reason. But few of us nurture this hatred like the narrator of "Moon-Face". The target of his irrational malice is a man named John Claverhouse. With cold precision, the narrator sets to planning the man’s downfall. Why he has this urge, he can’t explain. But he knows he’ll feel immense satisfaction when John Claverhouse is made to suffer. In this macabre little tale, Jack London pinpoints a very common but unpleasant human trait. And then takes it to a horrifying extreme. This short story collection also includes "All Gold Canyon", which was adapted as part of the Netflix anthology movie "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs". Jack London (1876–1916) was one of the first American writers to achieve worldwide celebrity. He did so with rugged adventure stories set in forbidding landscapes. And heroes who survive by embracing their most primal instincts. His breakthrough best seller was "The Call of the Wild". Inspired by his time in the Klondike Gold Rush, this hard-hitting novel is told from the perspective of a sled dog named Buck. It’s inspired many adaptations, including a big-budget movie starring Harrison Ford. Among London’s other notable works are "White Fang", also featuring a canine protagonist, as well as "The Sea-Wolf", "Martin Eden" and "The Iron Heel".

Book Synopsis Functionalised N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes by : Olaf Kühl
Download or read book Functionalised N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes written by Olaf Kühl and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-02-02 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have found increasing use as reagents for a range of organic transformations and in asymmetric organocatalysis. The performance of these molecules can be improved and tuned by functionalisation. Functionalised carbenes can anchor free carbenes to the metal site, introduce hemilability, provide a means to immobilise transition metal carbene catalysts, introduce chirality, provide a chelate ligand or bridge two metal centres. NHC can be attached to carbohydrates and campher, derived from amino acids and purines, they can be used as organocatalysts mimicking vitamin B1 or as weak “solvent” donors in lanthanide chemistry. Functionalised N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes describes major trends in functionalised NHC ligands, aiming to assist readers in their attempts to develop and apply their own functionalised carbenes. After an introduction to the chemistry and behaviour of NHC, the book gives a detailed description of functionalised carbenes and their complexes according to a range of functional groups, each with a discussion of the synthetic route, structure, stability and performance. Functionalised N-Heterocyclic Carbene Complexes is an essential guide to fine-tuning this important class of compounds for practitioners, researchers and advanced students working in synthetic organometallic and organic chemistry and catalysis.
