As applications of information security technologies become pervasive, - sues pertaining to their deployment and operation are becoming increasingly important. ISPEC is intended to be an annual conference that brings together researchers and practitioners to provide a con?uence of new information se- rity technologies, their applications and their integration with IT systems in various vertical sectors. The Program Committee consisted of leading experts in the areas of information security, information systems, and domain experts in applications of IT in vertical business segments. The topics of the conference covered security applications and case studies, access control, network security, data security, secure architectures, and cryp- graphic techniques. Emphasis was placed on the application of security research to meet practical user requirements, both in the paper selection process and in the invited speeches. Acceptance into the conference proceedings was very competitive. The Call for Papers attracted more than 120 submissions, out of which the Program Committee selected only 35 papers for inclusion in the proceedings. Thisconferencewasmadepossibleonlythroughthecontributionsfrommany individuals and organizations. We would like to thank all the authors who s- mitted papers. Book excerpt: On behalf of the Program Committee, it is our pleasure to present to you the proceedings of the 7th Symposium on Recent Advances in Intrusion Detection (RAID 2004), which took place in Sophia-Antipolis, French Riviera, France, September 15–17, 2004. The symposium brought together leading researchers and practitioners from academia, government and industry to discuss intrusion detection from research as well as commercial perspectives. We also encouraged discussions that - dressed issues that arise when studying intrusion detection, including infor- tion gathering and monitoring, from a wider perspective. Thus, we had sessions on detection of worms and viruses, attack analysis, and practical experience reports. The RAID 2004 Program Committee received 118 paper submissions from all over the world. All submissions were carefully reviewed by several members of the Program Committee and selection was made on the basis of scienti?c novelty, importance to the ?eld, and technical quality. Final selection took place at a meeting held May 24 in Paris, France. Fourteen papers and two practical experience reports were selected for presentation and publication in the conf- ence proceedings. In addition, a number of papers describing work in progress were selected for presentation at the symposium. The keynote addresswas given by Bruce Schneier of Counterpane Systems. H? akan Kvarnstrom ̈ of TeliaSonera gave an invited talk on the topic “Fighting Fraud in Telecom Environments. ” A successful symposium is the result of the joint e?ort of many people.

The workshop was organized by the St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS) in cooperation with Binghamton University (SUNY, USA). The 1st and the 2nd International Workshops on Mathematical Methods, Models and Architectures for Computer Network Security (MMM-ACNS 2001 and MMM-ACNS 2003), hosted by the St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation, demonstrated the keen interest of the international research community in the subject area. It was recognized that conducting a biannual series of such workshops in St. Petersburg stimulates fruitful exchanges between the di?erent schools of thought, facilitates the dissemination of new ideas and promotesthespiritofcooperationbetweenresearchersontheinternationalscale. MMM-ACNS 2005 provided an international forum for sharing original - search results and application experiences among specialists in fundamental and applied problems of computer network security. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the late 1990s, researchers began to grasp that the roots of many information security failures can be better explained with the language of economics than by pointing to instances of technical flaws. This led to a thriving new interdisciplinary research field combining economic and engineering insights, measurement approaches and methodologies to ask fundamental questions concerning the viability of a free and open information society. While economics and information security comprise the nucleus of an academic movement that quickly drew the attention of thinktanks, industry, and governments, the field has expanded to surrounding areas such as management of information security, privacy, and, more recently, cybercrime, all studied from an interdisciplinary angle by combining methods from microeconomics, econometrics, qualitative social sciences, behavioral sciences, and experimental economics. This book is structured in four parts, reflecting the main areas: management of information security, economics of information security, economics of privacy, and economics of cybercrime. Each individual contribution documents, discusses, and advances the state of the art concerning its specific research questions. It will be of value to academics and practitioners in the related fields.
