Book excerpt: This is an open access book.Adaptive, Resilient & Collaborative EngineeringTowards Faster Recovery & Impactful Solutions The world in the last decade has been facing global issues such as accelerated global warming, depleting natural resources, food waste and scarcity, water contamination and shortage, energy conservation, etc. Enter the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and we face what people term as double disruption. Not only solutions to the above problems are becoming more critical, but they are also needed fast. Timely and effective solutions are called for so that we can recover from the pandemic while at the same time carry our efforts to better our world. It is no longer sufficient to find solutions that can only delay the negative impacts from the above problems, but it is imperative to tip the balance and reverse the impacts to our advantage. Engineers and engineering have a vital role in inventing mechanisms, systems, and/or products that can address the solutions. Digital technologies and artificial intelligence have been at the forefront of such exploration and we can expect some hints for a better future, if we continue being adaptive, resilient, and collaborative. Given the above background, Faculty of Engineering - Universitas Surabaya, will host the fourth bi-annual international conference “The 4th International Conference on Informatics, Technology and Engineering 2023 (InCITE 2023)” in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, September 14th–15th, 2023. This event is a continuation of the past events successfully held in 2017, 2019, and 2021. We invite academia and business practitioners all around the globe to share ideas and best practices relevant to the above conference topic. We hope that this event can also serve as a platform of gathering for anyone interested in exploring potential solutions of our common problems today. Accepted and presented paper will be submitted for publication in reputable International Proceeding (Atlantis Press). See you in Yogyakarta!

Book Synopsis Holonic and Multi-Agent Systems for Manufacturing by : Vladimir Marik
Download or read book Holonic and Multi-Agent Systems for Manufacturing written by Vladimir Marik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2009-08-25 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The research of holonic and agent-based systems is developing very rapidly. The community around this R&D topic is also growing fast - despite the fact that the real-life practical implementations of such systems are still surprisingly rare. H- ever, the managers in different branches of industry feel that the holonic and agent-based systems represent the only way of managing and controlling very c- plex, highly distributed systems exploring vast volumes of accumulated knowledge. The relevant research and development activities gain more and more visible support from both industry as well as public sectors. Quite naturally, the number of scientific events aimed at the subject field is also growing rapidly. We see new lines of conf- ences like INDIN, we observe a strong focus of the already well-established conferences, e. g. , INCOM or ETFA, being shifted toward holonic and agent-based manufacturing systems. We see an increased interest of the IEEE System, Man and Cybernetics Society, especially its Technical Committee on Distributed Intelligent Systems which leverages the experience gathered by the members of the former Ho- nic Manufacuting Systems (HMS) consortium. We see a clear orientation of the IEEE SMC Transactions, part C, toward applications of agent-oriented solutions. The same is true of the International Journal on Autonomous Agents and Multi-Agent Systems (JAAMAS). This is a really good sign of the increasing importance of the field.
Book Synopsis Material Flow Systems in Manufacturing by : J.M. Tanchoco
Download or read book Material Flow Systems in Manufacturing written by J.M. Tanchoco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of contributions related to the design and control of material flow systems in manufacturing. Material flow systems in manufacturing covers a broad spectrum of topics directly affecting issues related to facilities design, material handling and production planning and control. In selecting the papers to include in this book, the scope was limited to the design and operational control aspects related to the physical move ment of parts, tools, containers and material handling devices. Recent develop ments in this area naturally led to concentration on flow systems involving cellular manufacturing, and automated transport equipment such as automated guided vehicles. However, the concepts discussed have general applicability to a wide range of manufacturing flow problems. The book is organized in five major sections: 1. design integration and justification; 2. cell design and material handling considerations; 3. alternative material flow paths; 4. operational control problems; and 5. tooling requirements and transport equipment.
Book Synopsis System Modeling and Control with Resource-Oriented Petri Nets by : MengChu Zhou
Download or read book System Modeling and Control with Resource-Oriented Petri Nets written by MengChu Zhou and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petri nets are widely used in modeling, analysis, and control of discrete event systems arising from manufacturing, transportation, computer and communication networks, and web service systems. However, Petri net models for practical systems can be very large, making it difficult to apply such models to real-life problems. System Modeling and Control with Resource-Oriented Petri Nets introduces a new resource-oriented Petri net (ROPN) model that was developed by the authors. Not only does it successfully reduce model size, but it also offers improvements that facilitate effective modeling, analysis, and control of automated and reconfigurable manufacturing systems. Presenting the latest research in this novel approach, this cutting-edge volume provides proven theories and methodologies for implementing cost and time-saving improvements to contemporary manufacturing systems. It provides effective tools for deadlock avoidance—deadlock-free routing and deadlock-free scheduling. The authors supply simple and complex industrial manufacturing system examples to illustrate time-tested concepts, theories, and approaches for solving real-life application problems. Written in a clear and concise manner, the text covers applications to automated and reconfigurable manufacturing systems, automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems, semiconductor manufacturing systems, and flexible assembly systems. Explaining complex concepts in a manner that is easy to understand, the authors provide the understanding and tools needed for more effective modeling, analysis, performance evaluation, control, and scheduling of engineering processes that will lead to more flexible and efficient manufacturing systems.
