This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The power of modern information systems and information technology (lSIIT) offers new opportunities to rethink, at the broadest levels, existing business strategies, approaches and practices. Over the past decade, IT has opened up new business opportunities, led to the development of new strategic IS and challenged all managers and users of ISIIT to devise new ways to make better use of information. Yet this era which began with much confidence and optimism is now suffering under a legacy of systems that are increasingly failing to meet business needs, and lasting fixes are proving costly and difficult to implement. General management is experiencing a crisis of confidence in their IS functions and in the chiefinformation systems officers who lead them (Earl and Feeney, 1994:11). The concern for chief executive officers is that they are confronting a situation that is seemingly out of control. They are asking, 'What is the best way to rein in these problems and effectively assess IS performance? Further, how can we be certain that IS is adequately adding value to the organisational bottom line?' On the other hand, IS executives and professionals who are responsible for creating, managing and maintaining the organisation's systems are worried about the preparedness of general managers to cope with the growth in new technologies and systems. They see IT having a polarising effect on general managers; it either bedazzles or frightens them (Davenport, 1994: 119).

Book excerpt: Discover seminal thoughts and practical ideas concerning international business and new technology. This book introduces new concepts, models, and technology to propel traditional teaching designs, content, and methods into the twenty-first century. The Teaching of Organizational Behavior Across Discipline and National Boundaries focuses on the fusion of computer science with management so that "hard" intellectualism and precision can be harnessed to help such "soft," intuitive areas as the creation of shared understanding. Chapters explore the application of information technology in diverse areas of international business teaching. They address the need for crossing boundaries--discipline, national, and information technology--to increase teachers'and practitioners'knowledge of the innovative changes taking place in the field. In today's business world, there is an increasing emphasis on multifunctional and multinational teamwork and groups. With the resulting importance of meetings and group communication, the ability to participate in and facilitate these meetings effectively is becoming a critical skill. The Teaching of Organizational Behavior Across Discipline and National Boundaries helps educators and international business planners enhance students'abilities in working together and communicating effectively. The book helps readers: acquire new ways to overcome the once-insuperable problems of group dynamics. become alert to the dangers of the "add-on" model of international business education. learn the benefits of Group Support Systems technology and with it, the desirability of cross-discipline collaboration. challenge the relevance of western management theory for non-Western management students and recognize the need for the development of multicultural theories. The Teaching of Organizational Behavior Across Discipline and National Boundaries is an ideal reference and guide for international business course designers and readers interested in management development, information systems, and information management.

Book Synopsis The Impact of Users' Expectations on the Success of Information Technology Implementation by : Barbara L. Marcolin
Download or read book The Impact of Users' Expectations on the Success of Information Technology Implementation written by Barbara L. Marcolin and published by National Library of Canada = Bibliothèque nationale du Canada. This book was released on 1994 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information Technology (IT) is being used to enhance productivity and effectiveness in response to today's competitive business pressures. However, there still exists a gap between what users expect and get from IT. As a result, this technology may not be helping users respond to the challenges in the business environment. In an effort to improve IT implementation by addressing users' expectations, Disconfirmation Theory, adapted from the consumer behaviour literature, is cast in an Information Systems (IS) setting. This theory helps understand how a deviation between users' expectations and IT performance can lead to IS success or failure. This theoretical foundation is used to address the IT implementation processes and enhance the value of that technology for the organization and the users. Based upon three longitudinal field studies and eleven cross-sectional field studies, it was found that meeting users' expectations (i.e., low disconfirmation) had a greater impact on IS success than users' expectations or users' post-implementation evaluation of the system's performance alone. The users' most important expectations included perceived usefulness, relative advantage, impact on knowledge, analytic capability, strategic orientation, fit or compatibility, ease of use, and contribution to the user's image profile and value as an employee). Managers and system designers can evaluate these important dimensions early in the system development cycle to assess the fit and hence the likelihood of success. Changes can be made to improve the system's impact. Researchers can employ the synthesized expectations categories, which were aggregated from previous work on IS expectations, attitude theories and diffusion of innovations work, to build a cumulative tradition based on common constructs.
