Book Synopsis Remote Sensing for Environmental Sciences by : E. Schanda
Download or read book Remote Sensing for Environmental Sciences written by E. Schanda and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The public's serious concern about the uncertainties and dangers of the conse quences of human activities on environmental quality demands policies to control the situation and to prevent its deterioration. But far-reaching decisions on the environmental policy are impaired or even made impossible as long as the relevant ecological relations are not sufficiently understood and large-scale quantitative information on the most important parameters is not available in sufficient quality and quantity. The techniques of remote sensing offer new ways of procuring data on natural phenomena with three main advantages - the large distance between sensor and object prevents interference with the environmental conditions to be measured, - the potentiality for large-scale and even global surveys yields a new dimension for the investigations of the environmental parameters, - the extremely wide, spectral range covered by the whole diversity of sensors discloses many properties of the environmental media not detectable within a single wave band (as e.g. the visible). These significant additions to the conventional methods of environmental studies and the particular qualification of several remote sensing methods for quantitative determination of the natural parameters makes this new investigation technique an important tool both to the scientists studying the ecological relationship and the administration in charge of the environmental planning and protection.

Download or read book The Swimmer written by William R. Uttal and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-02-25 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research monograph describes a large programming project in which an underwater organism, capable of perceiving, learning, deciding, and navigating, is computationally simulated. The developed computational model serves as a contemporary theory of perceptual-motor performance, embodying much of what is known about human vision and some of what is known about other cognitive processes. This artificial intelligence project has substantial contributions to make to the development of autonomous underwater vehicles. It also makes a specific theoretical statement about the organization and nature of organic perceptual motor systems that may be useful to psychologists, neuroscientists, and theoreticians in a number of other fields.
Book Synopsis Basics of Geomatics by : Mario A. Gomarasca
Download or read book Basics of Geomatics written by Mario A. Gomarasca and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-18 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geomatics is a neologism, the use of which is becoming increasingly widespread, even if it is not still universally accepted. It includes several disciplines and te- niques for the study of the Earth’s surface and its environments, and computer science plays a decisive role. A more meaningful and appropriate expression is G- spatial Information or GeoInformation. Geo-spatial Information embeds topography in its more modern forms (measurements with electronic instrumentation, sophisticated techniques of data analysis and network compensation, global satellite positioning techniques, laser scanning, etc.), analytical and digital photogrammetry, satellite and airborne remote sensing, numerical cartography, geographical information systems, decision support systems, WebGIS, etc. These specialized elds are intimately interrelated in terms of both the basic science and the results pursued: rigid separation does not allow us to discover several common aspects and the fundamental importance assumed in a search for solutions in the complex survey context. The objective pursued by Mario A. Gomarasca, one that is only apparently modest, is to publish an integrated text on the surveying theme, containing simple and comprehensible concepts relevant to experts in Geo-spatial Information and/or speci cally in one of the disciplines that compose it. At the same time, the book is rigorous and synthetic, describing with precision the main instruments and methods connected to the multiple techniques available today.

This book was released on 2008-04-25 with total page 1645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wavelet analysis and its applications have become one of the fastest growing research areas in the past several years. Wavelet theory has been employed in many fields and applications, such as signal and image processing, communication systems, biomedical imaging, radar, air acoustics, and endless other areas. Active media technology is concerned with the development of autonomous computational or physical entities capable of perceiving, reasoning, adapting, learning, cooperating, and delegating in a dynamic environment. This book consists of carefully selected and received papers presented at the conference, and is an attempt to capture the essence of the current state-of-the-art in wavelet analysis and active media technology. Invited papers included in this proceedings includes contributions from Prof P Zhang, T D Bui, and C Y Suen from Concordia University, Canada; Prof N A Strelkov and V L Dol'nikov from Yaroslavl State University, Russia; Prof Chin-Chen Chang and Ching-Yun Chang from Taiwan; Prof S S Pandey from R D University, India; and Prof I L Bloshanskii from Moscow State Regional University, Russia.
Book Synopsis Mapping Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries Structures by Satellite Imaging Radar by : Carlo Travaglia (Fao.)
Download or read book Mapping Coastal Aquaculture and Fisheries Structures by Satellite Imaging Radar written by Carlo Travaglia (Fao.) and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inventory and monitoring of coastal aquaculture and fisheries structures provide important baseline data for decision-making in planning and development, including regulatory laws, environmental protection and revenue collection. Mapping these structures can be performed with good accuracy and at regular intervals by satellite remote sensing, which allows observation of vast areas, often of difficult accessibility, at a fraction of cost of traditional surveys. This study is based on interpretation of satellite imaging radar data and a detailed image analysis procedure id described. The report aims at the necessary technology transfer for and operational use of the approach indicated in other similar environments.
