Book excerpt: Fixed point theory in probabilistic metric spaces can be considered as a part of Probabilistic Analysis, which is a very dynamic area of mathematical research. A primary aim of this monograph is to stimulate interest among scientists and students in this fascinating field. The text is self-contained for a reader with a modest knowledge of the metric fixed point theory. Several themes run through this book. The first is the theory of triangular norms (t-norms), which is closely related to fixed point theory in probabilistic metric spaces. Its recent development has had a strong influence upon the fixed point theory in probabilistic metric spaces. In Chapter 1 some basic properties of t-norms are presented and several special classes of t-norms are investigated. Chapter 2 is an overview of some basic definitions and examples from the theory of probabilistic metric spaces. Chapters 3, 4, and 5 deal with some single-valued and multi-valued probabilistic versions of the Banach contraction principle. In Chapter 6, some basic results in locally convex topological vector spaces are used and applied to fixed point theory in vector spaces. Audience: The book will be of value to graduate students, researchers, and applied mathematicians working in nonlinear analysis and probabilistic metric spaces.

These functions, called "probabilistic quasi-pseudo-metrics" and "fuzzy quasi-pseudo-metrics", are generalisations of classical quasi-pseudo metrics. For the sake of completeness as well as for convenience and easy comparison, most of the introductory paragraphs are mainly devoted to fundamental notions and results from the classical -- deterministic or symmetric -- theory.

RSKT serves as a major forum that brings researchers and industry practitioners together to discuss and deliberate on fundamental issues of knowledge processing and management and knowled- intensive practical solutions in the current knowledge age. Experts from around the world meet to present state-of-the-art scienti?c results, to nurture academic and industrial interaction, and to promote collaborative research in rough sets and knowledge technology. The ?rst RSKT was held in Chongqing, China, f- lowed by RSKT 2007 in Toronto, Canada, RSKT 2008 in Chengdu, China and RSKT 2009 in Gold Coast, Australia. RSKT 2010, the 5th in the series, was held in Beijing, China, October 15–17, 2010. This volume contains 98 papers selected for presentation at RSKT 2010. Following the success of the previous conferences, RSKT 2010 continued the tradition of a very rigorous reviewing process. Every submission was reviewed byatleasttworeviewers.Moreover,RSKT2010invitedseveralareachairsto- pervise the review process of every submission. Most submissions were reviewed by three experts. The Program Committee members were deeply involved in a highly engaging selection process with discussions among reviewers and area chairs. When necessary, additional expert reviews were sought. As a result, only top-quality papers were chosen for presentation at the conference, including 49 regular papers (acceptance rate of 28%) and 25 short papers (acceptance rate of 14.3%). We would like to thank all the authors for contributing their best papers. Without their support, this conference would not have been possible.

Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive foundation in Probabilistic Normed (PN) Spaces for anyone conducting research in this field of mathematics and statistics. It is the first to fully discuss the developments and the open problems of this highly relevant topic, introduced by A N Serstnev in the early 1960s as a response to problems of best approximations in statistics. The theory was revived by Claudi Alsina, Bert Schweizer and Abe Sklar in 1993, who provided a new, wider definition of a PN space which quickly became the standard adopted by all researchers. This book is the first wholly up-to-date and thorough investigation of the properties, uses and applications of PN spaces, based on the standard definition. Topics covered include:The theory of PN spaces is relevant as a generalization of deterministic results of linear normed spaces and also in the study of random operator equations. This introduction will therefore have broad relevance across mathematical and statistical research, especially those working in probabilistic functional analysis and probabilistic geometry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fixed point theory arose from the Banach contraction principle and has been studied for a long time. Its application mostly relies on the existence of solutions to mathematical problems that are formulated from economics and engineering. After the existence of the solutions is guaranteed, the numerical methodology will be established to obtain the approximated solution. Fixed points of function depend heavily on the considered spaces that are defined using the intuitive axioms. In particular, variant metrics spaces are proposed, like a partial metric space, b-metric space, fuzzy metric space and probabilistic metric space, etc. Different spaces will result in different types of fixed point theorems. In other words, there are a lot of different types of fixed point theorems in the literature. Therefore, this Special Issue welcomes survey articles. Articles that unify the different types of fixed point theorems are also very welcome. The topics of this Special Issue include the following: Fixed point theorems in metric space Fixed point theorems in fuzzy metric space Fixed point theorems in probabilistic metric space Fixed point theorems of set-valued functions in various spaces The existence of solutions in game theory The existence of solutions for equilibrium problems The existence of solutions of differential equations The existence of solutions of integral equations Numerical methods for obtaining the approximated fixed points

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Probability Measures on Metric Spaces presents the general theory of probability measures in abstract metric spaces. This book deals with complete separable metric groups, locally impact abelian groups, Hilbert spaces, and the spaces of continuous functions. Organized into seven chapters, this book begins with an overview of isomorphism theorem, which states that two Borel subsets of complete separable metric spaces are isomorphic if and only if they have the same cardinality. This text then deals with properties such as tightness, regularity, and perfectness of measures defined on metric spaces. Other chapters consider the arithmetic of probability distributions in topological groups. This book discusses as well the proofs of the classical extension theorems and existence of conditional and regular conditional probabilities in standard Borel spaces. The final chapter deals with the compactness criteria for sets of probability measures and their applications to testing statistical hypotheses. This book is a valuable resource for statisticians.

Book excerpt: This important work provides a comprehensive overview of the properties of Banachspaces related to strict convexity and a survey of significant applications-uniting a wealthof information previously scattered throughout the mathematical literature in a well-organized,accessible format. After introducing the subject through a discussion of the basic results of linear functionalanalysis, this unique book proceeds to investigate the characteristics of strictly convexspaces and related classes, including uniformly convex spaces, and examine important applicationsregarding approximation theory and fixed point theory. Following this extensivetreatment, the book discusses complex strictly convex spaces and related spaces- alsowith applications. Complete, clearly elucidated proofs accompany results throughout thebook, and ample references are provided to aid further research of the subject.Strict Convexity and Complex Strict Convexity is essential fot mathematicians and studentsinterested in geometric theory of Banach spaces and applications to approximationtheory and fixed point theory, and is of great value to engineers working in optimizationstudies. In addition, this volume serves as an excellent text for a graduate course inGeometric Theory of Banach Spaces.
