Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Advances in Animal Nutrition—1983 is a collection of papers that tackles the nutritional concerns of raising livestock. The text presents 14 studies that are organized into four parts. The first part covers the evaluation of nutritional data. This part discusses the interpretation of response data from animal feeding trials and errors in measurement and their importance in animal nutrition. Next, the book deals with topics relevant to pig nutrition, such as predicting the energy content of pig feeds and the use of fat in sow diets. Part III discusses the systems of calf rearing and milk replacers of calves. The remaining chapters tackle the concerns in ruminant nutrition, including nutritional aspects of high yielding dairy herds and copper in animal feeds. The text will be most useful to both researchers and practitioners of animal related disciplines, such agriculture and veterinary medicine.

Book Synopsis Quantification and Mitigation Strategies to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Livestock Production Systems by : Mizeck Chagunda
Download or read book Quantification and Mitigation Strategies to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Livestock Production Systems written by Mizeck Chagunda and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-06-17 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ruminants contribute significantly to human food security. However, the production of ruminants contributes to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions that are responsible for climate change. GHGs such as methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrous oxide are produced from different processes of ruminant production. Ruminant enteric methane is a substantial component of methane produced by agriculture. This book presents novel and established methods in quantifying and reducing enteric methane emission from ruminants in different production systems. The book covers different types of ruminants including cattle, sheep, and goats. The chapters are contributed by scientists and authors from different parts of the world, demonstrating the importance of this problem and the universal drive for immediate and sustainable solutions. Although, biologically speaking, the production of enteric methane cannot be reduced to zero, high emissions are an indicator of inefficient digestion of feed in the rumen and low utilisation of feed energy. By presenting research that could lead to robust and yet practical quantification methods and mitigation strategies, this book not only contributes to the discourse and new knowledge on the magnitude of the problem but also brings forward potential solutions in different livestock production systems.

Book Synopsis Animal Production in the Tropics by : Jean Pagot
Download or read book Animal Production in the Tropics written by Jean Pagot and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A text which starts with a tropical approach by considering the natur e, diversity and resources of tropical regions. Climate and its biolo gical implications are analysed in detail, especially with regard to heat and water. The approach continues its environmental emphasis with its treat ment of nutritional resources and disease. There is an in depth treat ment of genetics and breeds of cattle, sheep and goats. Farming syste ms and economic considerations round off what is a wide-ranging and detai led introduction to animal production in the tropics, with an empha sis of ruminants.

The text first tackles the nutritional availabilities in livestock diets, and then proceeds to dealing with covering topics related to energy value of feeds, such as energy evaluation of cereals for pig diets; developments of the metabolizable energy system for ruminants; and predicting the metabolizable energy value of feeds for ruminants. The book also covers the effects of cereal processing and growth stimulants on the efficiency of ruminant production. The selection will be most useful to both researchers and practitioners of animal related disciplines, such agriculture and veterinary medicine.
