Book Synopsis Prime Time, Prime Movers by : David Marc
Download or read book Prime Time, Prime Movers written by David Marc and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 1995-06-01 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From dominant performers such as Jackie Gleason and Carol Burnett to powerhouse producers such as Norman Lear and Steven Bochco, this book reviews the stories and styles of the most important architects of the airwaves. Milton Berle brought a "hellzapoppin'" vaudeville aesthetic to TV. Gleason used it as an autobiographical medium. Red Skelton was the classic clown from the heartland. Paul Henning, who created, wrote, and produced The Beverly Hillbillies, was himself a kid from Missouri who grew up to become a millionaire in Los Angeles. Norman Lear modeled Archie Bunker after his own cantankerous father. Steven Bochco productions, such as Hill Street Blues and L.A. Law, made TV watching respectable for yuppies. Authors David Marc and Robert J. Thompson are the most outspoken proponents of the auteur argument. Covering a broad spectrum of TV programming formats, from old-time variety shows to sitcoms, from action/adventure shows to documentaries, from gameshows to soap operas, they challenge the tastes and interests of television viewers—a group roughly equivalent to the American population at large.
Book Synopsis The Prime Movers by : Christopher Alan Anderson
Download or read book The Prime Movers written by Christopher Alan Anderson and published by First Edition Design Pub.. This book was released on 2015-05-14 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You align to Source by giving your love to your sexual other half. A man gives his (securitive) love to a woman; a woman gives her (reproductive) love to a man. That is all there is. We don't need to concern ourselves about 'loving ourselves,' as if one could. Our only concern is to love our sexual other half. Do you hear this? Only the action of giving your love to your sexual other half will keep you in alignment to Source such that the Law of Attraction will work for you. Why is this so? Because you are one (of the two) sexual Prime Movers." In this quote the author gives his overview of the problem and solution of mankind. Keywords: Metaphysics, Sovereign, Love, Spirit, Sex, Law, Life, God, Source, Enlightenment
Book Synopsis Prime Movers of Globalization by : Vaclav Smil
Download or read book Prime Movers of Globalization written by Vaclav Smil and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of how diesel engines and gas turbines, used to power cargo ships and jet airplanes, made today's globally integrated economy possible. The many books on globalization published over the past few years range from claims that the world is flat to an unlikely rehabilitation of Genghis Khan as a pioneer of global commerce. Missing from these accounts is a consideration of the technologies behind the creation of the globalized economy. What makes it possible for us to move billions of tons of raw materials and manufactured goods from continent to continent? Why are we able to fly almost anywhere on the planet within twenty-four hours? In Prime Movers of Globalization, Vaclav Smil offers a history of two key technical developments that have driven globalization: the high-compression non-sparking internal combustion engines invented by Rudolf Diesel in the 1890s and the gas turbines designed by Frank Whittle and Hans-Joachim Pabst von Ohain in the 1930s. The massive diesel engines that power cargo ships and the gas turbines that propel jet engines, Smil argues, are more important to the global economy than any corporate structure or international trade agreement. Smil compares the efficiency and scale of these two technologies to prime movers of the past, including the sail and the steam engine. The lengthy processes of development, commercialization, and diffusion that the diesel engine and the gas turbine went through, he argues, provide perfect examples of gradual technical advances that receive little attention but have resulted in epochal shifts in global affairs and the global economy.

Book Synopsis The Prime Movers by : Edwin A. Locke
Download or read book The Prime Movers written by Edwin A. Locke and published by AMACOM/American Management Association. This book was released on 2000 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The super-rich really aren't like other people. They're a rare breed that inspires awe, envy, admiration -- sometimes even hatred. They're idolized, criticized, and demonized. In short, they stand out from the rest of humanity. After all, not everyone can build personal fortunes worth billions or create dominant business empires. It takes a remarkable person, blessed with the "traits of wealth", to accomplish these things. The Prime Movers takes a penetrating look at some of these remarkable people -- and reveals seven attributes common to all great wealth creators: independent vision, an active mind, competence and confidence, the drive to action, egoistic passion, love of ability in others, and virtue. In the right mix, these traits are what makes someone a Bill Gates, Sam Walton, Mary Kay, or Ross Perot. Sometimes irreverent, sometimes surprising, but always fascinating, The Prime Movers sheds welcome light on the powerful personalities and driving forces behind the world's famous (and infamous) ultra-wealthy elite.

Book Synopsis DC Power System Design for Telecommunications by : Whitham D. Reeve
Download or read book DC Power System Design for Telecommunications written by Whitham D. Reeve and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-10-25 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Straightforward, systematic approach for designing reliable dc power systems for telecommunications Here is a must-have resource for anyone responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining telecommunications systems. The text explains how to design direct current (dc) power systems that operate at nominal voltages of 24 and 48 volts dc, use lead-acid batteries, and are installed in public network telecommunications systems and other exclusive-use environments. Rather than train readers to design systems by rote, the author gives readers the skills and knowledge to perform systematic analyses to make the best choices based on several economic, operational, electrical, and physical considerations. Written in a straightforward style that avoids unnecessary jargon and complex mathematics, the text covers all the essentials of dc power systems for telecommunications: * Detailed descriptions of the seven major system components: Rectifier/charger System, Battery System, Charge Bus, Discharge Bus, Primary Distribution System, Secondary Distribution System, and Voltage Conversion System * Detailed descriptions include design equations, reference tables, block diagrams, and schematics * Design procedures to help readers select the most appropriate power system elements, such as buses, wiring, overcurrent protection, rectifiers, and batteries * Application of the American National Standards Institute's telecommunications industry standards and other relevant standards, practices, and codes * Strategies for dealing with voltage drop in distribution and battery circuits as well as guidance for sizing circuit wiring to meet voltage drop and current rating requirements * In-depth discussions that focus on the types of lead-acid batteries used in telecommunications and their applications Throughout the text, examples demonstrate how theory is applied to real-world telecommunications systems. Some 330 illustrations and more than 100 tables are also provided to help readers visualize and better understand complex systems. Design and application examples and accompanying solutions help readers understand the design process and use their new skills. In summary, engineers and technicians in the telecommunications industry will find all the resources they need to design reliable dc power systems.
