Book Synopsis La prière, conquête de la parole by : Hervé Landau
Download or read book La prière, conquête de la parole written by Hervé Landau and published by PUF. This book was released on 2015-12-31T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis “And They Shall Be One Flesh”: On The Language of Mystical Union in Judaism by : Adam Afterman
Download or read book “And They Shall Be One Flesh”: On The Language of Mystical Union in Judaism written by Adam Afterman and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In “And They Shall Be One Flesh”: On the Language of Mystical Union in Judaism, Adam Afterman offers an extensive study of mystical union and embodiment in Judaism. Afterman argues that Philo was the first to articulate the notion of unio mystica in Judaism and is the source of the henōsis mysticism in the later Neoplatonic tradition. The study provides a detailed analysis of the Jewish medieval trends that developed different forms of mystical union and mystical embodiment through the divine name and spirit. The book argues that the development of unitive mysticism in Judaism is the fruit of the creative synthesis of rabbinic Judaism and Hellenistic and Arab philosophy, and a natural outcome of the theological articulation of the idea of monotheism itself.
Book Synopsis The Mystery of God by : C. C. Rowland
Download or read book The Mystery of God written by C. C. Rowland and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009 with total page 717 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together the perspectives of apocalypticism and early Jewish mysticism to illuminate aspects of New Testament theology. The first part begins with a consideration of the mystical character of apocalypticism and then uses the Book of Revelation and the development of views about the heavenly mediator figure of Enoch to explore the importance of apocalypticism in the Gospels and Acts, the Pauline Letters and finally the key theological themes in the later books of the New Testament. The second and third parts explore the character of early Jewish mysticism by taking important themes in the early Jewish mystical texts such as the Temple and the Divine Body to demonstrate the relevance of this material to New Testament interpretation.
Book Synopsis Seeing the Lord's Glory by : Christopher Barina Kaiser
Download or read book Seeing the Lord's Glory written by Christopher Barina Kaiser and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The “dilemma of early Christology,” Kaiser observes, is found in the early Christian claims to have “seen the Lord” and “beheld his glory”—expressions that in early Judaism would have pointed unequivocally to visions of Israel’s God. The shift of those claims onto the figure of Jesus is usually explained either as a result of the resurrection of Jesus, presumed as a historical event, or on the influence of pagan polytheism. Kaiser examines the phenomenon of “kyriocentric” visions in Second Temple Judaism, asking whether such traditions are sufficient to account for the shape of early claims regarding the divinity of Christ.
Book Synopsis Hasidism on the Margin by : Shaul Magid
Download or read book Hasidism on the Margin written by Shaul Magid and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hasidism on the Margin explores one of the most provocative and radical traditions of Hasidic thought, the school of Izbica and Radzin that Rabbi Gershon Henokh originated in nineteenth-century Poland. Shaul Magid traces the intellectual history of this strand of Judaism from medieval Jewish philosophy through centuries of Kabbalistic texts to the nineteenth century and into the present. He contextualizes the Hasidism of Izbica-Radzin in the larger philosophy and history of religions and provides a model for inquiry into other forms of Hasidism.
Book Synopsis Jews, Bible and Prayer by : Stefan C. Reif
Download or read book Jews, Bible and Prayer written by Stefan C. Reif and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-05-08 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his articles Stefan Reif deas with Jewish biblical exegesis and the close analysis of the evolution of Jewish prayer texts. Some fourteen of these that appeared in various collective volumes are here made more easily available, together with a major new study of Numbers 13, an introduction and extensive indexes. Reif attempts to establish whether there is any linguistic, literary and exegetical value in the traditional Jewish interpretation of the Hebrew Bible for the modern scientific approach to such texts and whether such an approach itself is always free of theological bias. He demonstrates how Jewish liturgical texts may illuminate religious teachings about wisdom, history, peace, forgiveness, and divine metaphors. Also clarified in these essays are notions of David, Greek and Hebrew, divine metaphors, and the liturgical use of the Hebrew Bible.
