Book Synopsis Flow Boiling of a Dilute Emulsion In Smooth and Rough Microgaps by : Brandon M. Shadakofsky

This book was released on 2023-03-24 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elucidates heat transfer behavior for boiling of dilute emulsions- mixtures of two immiscible fluids- which has received little attention to date. Of the work completed in this area, the majority has been focused on pool boiling where no mean flow is present, and this book is the first major work to be published regarding flow boiling of emulsions. The book includes a comprehensive review and assessment of research on emulsion-based heat transfer. Recent experiments are reported and analyzed to characterize heat transfer in microgap flow boiling via a systematic investigation into the effects of gap size, mass flux, and volume fraction on the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. The emulsion used in all experiments comprises droplets of an immiscible electronics cooling fluid suspended in water. The volume provides a complete baseline for flow boiling of water in the microgaps, enabling a determination of the enhancement of the heat transfer coefficient when the disperse component is present. Moreover, a subset of the data set pertains to flow boiling of dilute emulsions over microporous surfaces. The flow conditions for which the microporous surfaces enhance or degrade heat transfer are presented. Finally, this book provides a discussion of the physical phenomena which affect boiling and a set of nondimensional numbers that can be used for correlation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * Third edition of a well-known and well established text both in industry and for teaching * Fully up-to-date and includes extra problems This book is an aid to heat exchanger design written primarily for design and development engineers in the chemical process, power generation, and refrigeration industries. It provides a comprehensive reference on two-phase flows, boiling, and condensation. The text covers all the latest advances like flows over tube bundles and two-phase heat transfer regarding refrigerants and petrochemicals. Another feature of this third edition is many new problems at chapter ends to enhance its use as a teaching text for graduate and post-graduate courses on two-phase flow and heat transfer. - ;This book is written for practising engineers as a comprehensive reference on two-phase flows, boiling, and condensation. It deals with methods for estimating two-phase flow pressure drops and heat transfer rates. It is a well-known reference book in its third edition and is also used as a text for advanced university courses. Both authors write from practical experience as both are professional engineers. -

It contains 23 invited chapters from international specialists on the topics of numerical modeling of pulsating heat pipes and of slug flows with evaporation; lattice Boltzmann modeling of pool boiling; fundamentals of boiling in microchannels and microfin tubes, CO2 and nanofluids; testing and modeling of micro-two-phase cooling systems for electronics; and various special topics (flow separation in microfluidics, two-phase sensors, wetting of anisotropic surfaces, ultra-compact heat exchangers, etc.). The invited authors are leading university researchers and well-known engineers from leading corporate research laboratories (ABB, IBM, Nokia Bell Labs). Numerous 'must read' chapters are also included here for the two-phase community. Set IV constitutes a 'must have' engineering and research reference together with previous Sets I, II and III for thermal engineering researchers and practitioners.

Book Synopsis Drop-Surface Interactions by : Martin Rein
Download or read book Drop-Surface Interactions written by Martin Rein and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-10-30 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive overview of fluid mechanical, thermal and physico-chemical aspects of drop-surface interactions. Basic physical mechanisms pertaining to free-surface flow phenomena characteristic of drop impact on solid and liquid surfaces are explained emphasizing the importance of scaling. Moreover, physico-chemical fundamentals relating to a forced spreading of complex solutions, analytical tools for calculating compressibility effects, and heat transfer and phase change phenomena occurring during solidification and evaporation processes, respectively, are introduced in detail. Finally, numerical approaches particularly suited for modeling drop-surface interactions are consisely surveyed with a particular emphasis on boundary integral methods and Navier-Stokes algorithms (volume of fluid, level set and front tracking algorithms). The book is closed by contributions to a workshop on Drop-Surface Interactions held at the International Centre of Mechanical Sciences.
