Book excerpt: Many youth arrive at confirmation classes without a basic grasp of key Bible stories or Christian traditions. This book helps to fill that gap, offering Sunday school teachers, parents, and adult volunteers a compact guide for equipping their youth with knowledge and understanding of their own faith. It offers an overview of one hundred essential topics that all children growing up in the church should learn about, including key Bible stories, church history, the sacraments and creeds, world religions, and more. Each entry includes a brief summary, a suggestion for how educators and parents can explore this item with their children, and ideas for integrating the topic into the child's overall Christian education. This practical resource helps children think critically about Christian faith as they begin their confirmation studies, providing the vocabulary and understanding needed to articulate their own theology.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Too often we whisk our youth through the Sacrament without a clear understanding of what's happening. That's tragic, because a grace misunderstood is easily unappreciated, and a grace unappreciated is easily lost. My Confirmation Book empowers young people to receive the Holy Spirit in a way that's active, personal, willing, and enduring. Highly recommended.” -Mike Aquilina, host of “Sonrise Morning Show” on EWTN, and Executive Vice-President of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology “My Confirmation Book is the perfect gift for any Confirmand. Full of inspiration and wisdom, each chapter poses a thought-provoking scenario to help bring the various gifts of the Holy Spirit to life. Donna-Marie's book will be my present of choice for the special teens in my life preparing to receive this beautiful sacrament.” -Lisa M. Hendey, Founder of CatholicMom.com and author of A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms “A wonderful tool for parents, religious education leaders, and all who are concerned about raising up strong young Catholics – Catholics who will be able to boldly and joyfully proclaim their faith and engage a culture so in need of God.” -Teresa Tomeo, Catholic syndicated talk show host, Ave Maria Radio "Another winner from Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle! Clear, concise, and inspiring - everything Confirmation candidates could want in a book that will help them prepare for one of the important moments in their Livers ! A great resource for parents and catechists, too. Kudos on a job well done!" Marge Fenelon, Author, Columnist and Speaker. "Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle has created a resource of great simplicity and beauty for young confirmands. Tenderly and wisely written, My Confirmation explains and explores the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. Concise, but powerful, the text includes illuminating stories and discussion questions, and a superb collection of brief quotes from saints and sacred scripture. I am eager to buy an armload of copies, not only for all the young people I know who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, but for those who have already received it. In fact, I found so much encouragement and clarity in the pages of this small book of reflections; I’m going to give them to my adult friends, as well." Lisa Mladinich, author Be an Amazing Catechist: Inspire the Faith of Children, OSV Part keepsake, part teaching book, this small volume is filled with inspiration, encouragement, and reflections to ponder for 4th graders and up. Through simple text, it explains the privileges and responsibilities imparted through the sacrament of Confirmation. Compelling stories about saints and children their own age will help kids become more familiar with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and learn how the gifts can be active in their own lives. The apostolic mission of a confirmed Catholic is emphasized and readers are reminded that the sacrament of Confirmation is exciting—the same Holy Spirit who appeared to the apostles and the Blessed Mother at Pentecost is the one who will come to them when they are confirmed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All too often, the sacrament of Confirmation feels like a graduation from religious obligation, according to Christopher Wesley, former director of student ministry at Church of the Nativity in Timonium, Maryland. In Rebuilding Confirmation, Wesley shares how to reimagine Confirmation preparation in new or existing programs so that teens will become active members of the Church. At Church of the Nativity, Christopher Wesley created a Confirmation program that uses parish-selected mentors and small faith-formation groups to provide teens with an intensely transformative encounter with Christ and the Church. Instead of teens seeing the sacrament as the end of faith formation and weekly Mass attendance, they are becoming engaged in the life of the Church. Wesley’s story, vision, and rock-solid advice will strengthen your existing program or help you create a strong framework upon which to build a new one. He will show you how to create a ministry of witness and support to accompany youth as they prepare for Confirmation. Rebuilding Confirmation is perfect for use with existing middle or high school Confirmation programs, including popular curriculum-based programs such as Chosen, Decision Point, and Called to Mercy. You will learn: How to create a Confirmation program that is anchored by small groups and parish-selected mentors; Practical solutions to systemic problems such as having an unclear purpose and treating preparation for the sacrament as just more schooling; How to recruit and train adult volunteers; How to work with parents and win their support; How to screen and select Confirmation candidates who are truly ready to commit; and How to advocate for your program and youth within the wider parish community. Wesley offers fixes for the structures and habits that fail youth in many Catholic parishes, shares his own successes and failures, and provides great ideas and practical tools to help the newly confirmed set a course for their future in the Church.

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1864 edition. Excerpt: ... CHAPTER VI. THE BAPTISMAL VOW: FAITH. In the second place, we promise to believe all the articles of the Christian faith. These articles, or different parts, of the Christian faith we find summed up in the three Creeds. 1. The Apostles' Creed; so called, not probably from its having been actually written or drawn up by the Apostles themselves, but simply from its containing those points of doctrine which from the earliest apostolic times were ever enforced as necessary to be believed. 2. The Nicene Creed, in which are embodied those opinions which at the great Council of Nicaja (held A.d. 325) were declared to be the truth and the teaching of the Church. 3. The Athanasian Creed, so named after the eminent defender of the faith, St. Athanasius. To the use of this last-mentioned (Athanasian) Creed, there are sometimes objections made. Persons imagine it to be uncharitable in its declarations. This Creed commences thus: "Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the Catholic faith. Which faith except every one do keep whole and undented, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly." And it concludes with these words: "This is the Catholic faith, which except a man believe faithfully he cannot be saved." These declarations are objected to, as being harsh and uncharitable. But surely this is a mistaken notion. The words of the Creed are in fact little else than the words of our Lord Himself. The Creed says, Except a man believe the Catholic faith "he cannot be saved," and "shall perish everlastingly: " Christ says, "He that believeth not shall be damned'." The Church, then, in her statement merely repeats our Lord's nm declaration. There can be nothing uncharitable in this. The words are simply used as a grave...
