Book excerpt: Chapter 2Can airline fuel self-organization avoidfuel price rising costI feel one airline fuel self-organization can avoid fuel price rising to influence cost rising because it doesn't often buy any fuel from fuel suppliers. However, there are some airlines which are the characteristic of airline fuel self organization and they are present in that both of oil fuel production and providing flights service in airline industry. So, these airline fuel self organizations can control the oil fuel price by themselves. However, one airline fuel self organization is also evident in efforts by businesses acts of terrorism against economic targets by adopting proactive steps, such as airline and airport security. So, it seems airline fuel self organization can reduce the risk to avoid oil price raising and terrorism attacks to raise cost in airline industry risk management sector. Beside, these airline fuel self organizations which have high technology of fuel efficient aircrafts, the use of one aircraft model, the adoption of direct routes versus customer loyalty programs and other operational cost reductions are strategies for increased profitability. It seems these airline fuel self organizations can solve oil price, terrorism etc. external factor influences to raise cost. Instead of high technology of fuel efficient aircrafts and airline fuel self organization methods can solve terrorism attacks and oil price rising risks. However, I believe that there are other risks are caused to these airline fuel self organizations to raise their airline cost possibly. The risks include such as user factor, such as culture, tradition, education; economic factor, such as costs, human resources and macro economic factor, such as political stability, economic development, educational policy, health policy, environmental policy. However, these risks occurrences are resulting in the relationship of cause and effect events. These events are not directly observable. Such as, the complexity of relationship between terrorism and airline profitability. Hence, if global airline industry can predict when those risks occur to do protective strategic behavior. It is possible that which can understand when these risk events will occur and to adopt their protective strategic behaviors to influence their outcomes to be positive to avoid any external risk threats on the long term. However, I think hierarchy, airlines fuel self organization efficiency methods which are as possible predictors of user preferences to avoid risk threat events to cause whose airline businesses cost rising to cause failure occurrences in airline industry.

Book excerpt: This paper investigates the response of consumer price inflation to changes in domestic fuel prices, looking at the different categories of the overall consumer price index (CPI). We then combine household survey data with the CPI components to construct a CPI index for the poorest and richest income quintiles with the view to assess the distributional impact of the pass-through. To undertake this analysis, the paper provides an update to the Global Monthly Retail Fuel Price Database, expanding the product coverage to premium and regular fuels, the time dimension to December 2020, and the sample to 190 countries. Three key findings stand out. First, the response of inflation to gasoline price shocks is smaller, but more persistent and broad-based in developing economies than in advanced economies. Second, we show that past studies using crude oil prices instead of retail fuel prices to estimate the pass-through to inflation significantly underestimate it. Third, while the purchasing power of all households declines as fuel prices increase, the distributional impact is progressive. But the progressivity phases out within 6 months after the shock in advanced economies, whereas it persists beyond a year in developing countries.

Book excerpt: For all engineers and practitioners, it is essential to have a fundamental understanding of cost structure, estimating cash flows, and evaluating alternative projects and designs on an economic basis. Engineering Economics for Aviation and Aerospace provides the tools and techniques necessary for engineers to economically evaluate their projects and choices. The focus of this book is on a comprehensive understanding of the theory and practical applications of engineering economics. It explains and demonstrates the principles and techniques of engineering economics and financial analysis as applied to the aviation and aerospace industries. Time value of money, interest factors, and spreadsheet functions are used to evaluate the cash flows associated with a single project or multiple projects. The alternative engineering economics tools and techniques are utilized in separate chapters to evaluate the attractiveness of a single project or to select the best of multiple alternatives. Most of the engineering economics and financial mathematics books available in the market take either a pure theoretical approach or offer limited applications. This book incorporates both approaches, providing students of aviation and industrial economics, as well as practitioners, with the necessary mathematical knowledge to evaluate alternatives on an economic basis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airport planning, especially the airside, is based on strict compliance with regulatory requirements. In heavily urbanized, industrialized countries, where suitable sites for new airport developments are increasingly hard to find – and subjected to unprecedented public scrutiny – the role of the airport planner is more crucial than ever. Fundamentals of Airport Planning aims to explain airport planning from the ground up. Utilizing a basic framework and step-by-step approach, the author introduces the critical parameters for selecting a suitable and 'best' location from among multiple sites. International and country-specific regulations are described and accounted for. The master planning process is described with suitable illustrations and examples, and the benefits and best practices of master planning are discussed. The location of visual aids (lighting and marking) and non-visual aids Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Systems (CNS) is considered, and readers will also learn how to prepare technically feasible plans with various infrastructures and how to assess a project's financial viability. This book includes a chapter on land use planning to maximize the utilization of the asset, with appropriate control within and outside the airport. This book is aimed at postgraduate students who are specializing in aviation or air transport management, as well as professionals studying or working in airport planning and design and related aviation topics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: United States monetary policy has traditionally been modeled under the assumption that the domestic economy is immune to international factors and exogenous shocks. Such an assumption is increasingly unrealistic in the age of integrated capital markets, tightened links between national economies, and reduced trading costs. International Dimensions of Monetary Policy brings together fresh research to address the repercussions of the continuing evolution toward globalization for the conduct of monetary policy. In this comprehensive book, the authors examine the real and potential effects of increased openness and exposure to international economic dynamics from a variety of perspectives. Their findings reveal that central banks continue to influence decisively domestic economic outcomes—even inflation—suggesting that international factors may have a limited role in national performance. International Dimensions of Monetary Policy will lead the way in analyzing monetary policy measures in complex economies.
