Book Synopsis Wealth through Integration by : Elias T. Ayuk
Download or read book Wealth through Integration written by Elias T. Ayuk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could regional integration be a first step toward joining the global market? In a context where liberalizing trade has not produced the expected gains in developing countries and growth in global trade has not led to the expected economic growth, an alternative solution has emerged. This new paradigm suggests that trade liberalization should be accompanied by public investment. However, by its very nature, trade liberalization leads to a reduction in revenues from duties and taxes, which means that the available resources for public investments will also be reduced. There are now solid arguments for encouraging the less-developed countries to first emphasize regional integration before trying to access the global market. This book explores the issues linked to regional integration in West Africa and presents empirical data about the experiences in = West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) countries to converge their economies. It also examines how these efforts, which make a major contribution to regional integration, influence poverty reduction in the economic and monetary community. It will be of interest to researchers working in this area. Elias T. Ayuk is Director of the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa in Accra, Ghana, and was formerly a senior program specialist at the International Development Research Centre. Samuel T. Kaboré is a researcher/lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Ouagadougou II, Burkina Faso. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays gathers contributions from leading international lawyers from different countries, generations and angles with the aim of highlighting the multifaceted history of international law. This volume questions and analyses the origins and foundations of the international legal system. A particular attention is devoted to Hugo Grotius as one of the founding fathers of the law of nations. Several contributions further question the positivist tradition initiated by Vattel and endorsed by scholars of the 19th Century. This immersion in the intellectual origins of international law is enriched by an inquiry into the practice of the law of nations, including its main patterns and changing evolution as well as the role of non-western traditions and the impact of colonization.

Book Synopsis Questioning the Foundations of Public Law by : Michael A Wilkinson
Download or read book Questioning the Foundations of Public Law written by Michael A Wilkinson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-05-17 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2010, Martin Loughlin, Professor of Public Law at the LSE, published Foundations of Public Law, 'an account of the foundation of the discipline of public law with a view to identifying its essential character'. The book has become a landmark in the field, and it has been said, notably by one of its major critics, that it now provides the 'starting point' for any deeper inquiry into the subject. The purpose of this volume is to engage critically with Foundations – conceptually, comparatively and historically – from the viewpoints of public law, private law, political, social and legal theory, as well as jurisdictional perspectives including the UK, US, India, and Continental Europe. Scholars also consider the legacy and continuing relevance of Foundations in the light of developments in transnational law, global law and regional integration in the European Union.

Book Synopsis Uniformity and Fragmentation of the 1999 Montreal Convention on International Air Carrier Liability by : Cyril-Igor Grigorieff
Download or read book Uniformity and Fragmentation of the 1999 Montreal Convention on International Air Carrier Liability written by Cyril-Igor Grigorieff and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2022-05-12 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1999 Montreal Convention is the most recent in-force treaty to regulate several important aspects of international air carrier liability in a uniform manner. This book examines in detail to what extent the 1999 Montreal Convention’s aim of uniformity has been achieved. To this end, it scrutinizes the exact scope of this aim and analyses the factors that may have prevented it from being fully achieved. It studies the wording of the treaty and its predecessors, their travaux préparatoires, the judicial decisions of numerous civil and common law jurisdictions, as well as various other interpretative tools. Among many others, themes addressed in this study include: exclusivity; the autonomy of terms used; translation issues; accident; bodily injury; damage; delay; consumer rights; the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties; hermeneutics; the Warsaw System; regional air law (including EU Regulation 261/2004); and algorithms. The study also suggests ways to reduce the fragmentation of the 1999 Montreal Convention with a series of directly applicable recommendations, and an analysis of what Artificial Intelligence could mean for the future. This book, which is intended to be practical, is aimed at all lawyers well-versed in aviation law as well as aviation enthusiasts. They will find it a useful tool for interpreting the 1999 Montreal Convention in a manner consistent with its ambition, as well as recent case law from all continents on hot topics.
