Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Precious Gift, Priceless Treasure," is a book for parents of special children. It deals with the challenges these parents have to face. The author candidly shares her trials and the wisdom gained from the laughter and the tears. She does not discount the value of early intervention. However there are instances when even the most religious and judicious management does not bring the desired results. Furthermore, there are still places where handicapped children are shunned and discriminated against. With these thoughts in mind, she emphasizes the importance of spirituality and the need for an intimate relationship with God. Using appropriate Bible verses at the end of each chapter, she encourages the reader to reflect on the story and the Word of God. Her strong faith in God helped her accept the reality that her only daughter is different. She has learned to let go of society's norms and focus instead on man's real goal-HEAVEN! The book tries to minister to parents who are lost, helpless, and hopeless. Many of them feel like failures when their special child is unable to lead a "normal life." With their incessant quest for normalcy, they fall into the trap of neglecting their other children, themselves, or turning their ire on God. Instead of clinging to God and imploring Him for necessary graces needed to cope, they erroneously depart from His presence. There is danger in this mindset, for turning away from Him who gave us the gift of LIFE will only lead to hopelessness and desperation. The book conveys a distinctive meaning to the words, "gift," and "treasure," as perceived by the author. "HOPE AMIDST HOPELESSNESS" is the slogan for this book.

As you look into becoming the Virtuous Woman, you must realize she is of great value to God, and - more importantly - she is very rare. Rubies are the rarest and most valuable of all gems and rubies are exceedingly fragile. The miner that finds them must have great skill in cutting and removing the ruby because it is easily fractured and lost when handled incorrectly. However, when the ruby is mined, cut with precision, and placed in a setting, its strength rivals that of a diamond. You are the precious ruby in this story, and your value to God is far above the value of many rubies. The Master Miner, God, has found you, loves you, and desires for you to be set in a ring to show off how rare and beautiful you really are.

Book excerpt: His Majesty is written with two view points, that of a boy and of a man. I came to know Jesus as my Savior around the age of five. The poems within this book tell alot about my relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. My dad left home when I was five, and I heard the pastor say that God wants to be our Abba Father, which means Daddy God. In my heart, God became my Daddy that day, and has fathered me all of my days. When my earthly father passed away, I never felt Fatherless for a second and I know my Father will never leave me. This and other heart felt messages are contained within the writings of His Majesty. I pray that God will richly bless all who read these poems and that they will know that God truly loves all people. There is also a salvation message at the end of this book which I pray will help to lead many people to Jesus.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collective work aims to critically reflect upon contemporary citizenship aspirations and practices in sub-Saharan Africa. Focusing on different realities, such as Angola, Mozambique and the Great Lakes region, it tries to unveil multiple historical commonalities, especially those arising from shared experiences of postcolonial violence and vulnerability. Thus, albeit the social realities under scrutiny cannot stand for the complexity of the Continent, the studies here gathered enlighten similar processes that can be identified in many other African contexts. That is certainly the case of the proliferation of religious manifestations and democratic demands that are currently being articulated in different countries such as Burundi, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda and Nigeria. One such commonality can be referred to as a quest for being. Indeed, this quest for being has always underpinned African discourses and practices, either in postcolonial approaches, either in intellectual traditions, either in popular productions. These multiple practices reveal how, in certain circumstances, identity, as a product of historical wills of knowledge, power and truth, can be questioned as a site of possession and entrapment. How is one to be beyond colonial possession? Or beyond postcolonial authoritarian rule? Or beyond eurocentrism? African quests for being have always been quests for freedom. And they impose a debate on regimes of citizenship. Active citizenship is not merely a by-product of formal political systems; it is one that challenges them from the outside while actualizing the lessons of historical liberation struggles. As times goes by, the right to be still stands. The chapters of this book were originally published as a special issue in Citizenship Studies.

Book excerpt: While working at the University of Tennessee in the early 1980s, Larry T.McGehee was looking for a way to share the wealth of history, politics, art, and culture with the residents of the South's small towns. He hit upon theidea of a newspaper column that would run in the region's weekly papers. Through hisstories, McGehee encouraged people to look at the people, places, and things aroundthem with a fresh set of eyes.Southern Seen collects McGehee's numerous columns exploring the South's history, inhabitants, mannerisms, food, and foibles. The book is divided into eight categories: outdoors, place, education, people, conflict, food, play, and religion. His subjects range from the outdoors and the creatures that inhabit it to the Civil War and its battle sites to unique southern symbols and the South's particular culinary delicacies. The author celebrates the traditions and work of the harvest season and extols the beauty of migrating hummingbirds and the rare delight of a southern snowstorm. McGehee meditates on the drastic changes machines and inventions, such as air conditioning, have brought to the region, and he looks for lessons in the mighty floods that occur in the contemporary South. The columns, by turns funny and poignant, biting and sweet, celebrate the past andlook to the future. The wild turkey, once common in the backcountry brush, is now anexample of a vanishing forest population, and local farmers' markets strive to sustain the livelihood of embattled small family farmers. McGehee applies the legacy of the Hatfield-McCoy feuds to the regional and international strife of modern times and examines the sacrifice and contributions of the South's young men who served in the wars of the last century. He revels in the pride of each part of the region for its own unique barbecue and delights in the memories of the small-town drugstore, which offered everything from health advice to a cream soda.Through the stories of famous figures, local residents, and the folk traditions thatshape everyday life, McGehee celebrates the diversity of life in the South and offers irreplaceable insights into what continues to make the region unique.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While children figure prominently in religious traditions, few books have directly explored the complex relationships between children and religion. This is the first book to examine the theme of children in major religions of the world. Each of six chapters, edited by world-class scholars, focuses on one religious tradition and includes an introduction and a selection of primary texts ranging from legal to liturgical and from the ancient to the contemporary. Through both the scholarly introductions and the primary sources, this comprehensive volume addresses a range of topics, from the sanctity of birth to a child's relationship to evil, showing that issues regarding children are central to understanding world religions and raising significant questions about our own conceptions of children today.
