Book Synopsis Carbon Filtration for Reducing Emissions from Chemical Agent Incineration by : National Research Council
Download or read book Carbon Filtration for Reducing Emissions from Chemical Agent Incineration written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-09-12 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report reviews the Army's evaluation of carbon filters for use in the baseline incineration PAS, as well as the Army's change management process (the Army's tool for evaluating major equipment and operational changes to disposal facilities). In preparing this report, members of the Stockpile Committee evaluated exhaust gas emissions testing at the two operating baseline incineration systems, JACADS and the TOCDF; evaluated the development of the dilute SOPC carbon filter simulation model; and evaluated the conceptual design of a modified PAS with an activated carbon filter. The two major risk assessments conducted for each continental disposal site that use the baseline system, namely, (1) the quantitative risk assessment, which evaluates the risks and consequences of accidental agent releases, and (2) the health risk assessment, which evaluates the potential effects of nonagent emissions on human health and the environment, were also examined.

This book was released on 1999-11-24 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report examines seven disposal technologies being considered by the U.S. government as alternative methods to the process of incineration for destroying mortars, rockets, land mines, and other weapons that contain chemical warfare agents, such as mustard gas. These weapons are considered especially dangerous because they contain both chemical warfare agent and explosive materials in an assembled package that must be disassembled for destruction. The study identifies the strengths and weaknesses and advantages and disadvantages of each technology and assesses their potential for full-scale implementation.

Download or read book Pharmageddon written by David Healy and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2013-04 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This searing indictment, David Healy’s most comprehensive and forceful argument against the pharmaceuticalization of medicine, tackles problems in health care that are leading to a growing number of deaths and disabilities. Healy, who was the first to draw attention to the now well-publicized suicide-inducing side effects of many anti-depressants, attributes our current state of affairs to three key factors: product rather than process patents on drugs, the classification of certain drugs as prescription-only, and industry-controlled drug trials. These developments have tied the survival of pharmaceutical companies to the development of blockbuster drugs, so that they must overhype benefits and deny real hazards. Healy further explains why these trends have basically ended the possibility of universal health care in the United States and elsewhere around the world. He concludes with suggestions for reform of our currently corrupted evidence-based medical system.
Download or read book Public Health Preparedness written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CDC has now published four preparedness reports to demonstrate how federal investments are improving the nation's ability to respond to public health threats and emergencies. This report is an update to CDC's 2010 state-by-state report; it presents available data that demonstrate trends and document progress in two important preparedness activities, laboratory capabilities and response readiness planning. These data do not represent all preparedness activities occurring in states and localities. As other data become available, they will be included in future reports. Fact sheets in this report present data on activities occurring from 2007 to 2010 in the 50 states and 4 localities (Chicago, Los Angeles County, the District of Columbia, and New York City) directly funded by CDC's PHEP cooperative agreement.
