Penina Adelman became captivated by Midrash ha-Gadol while seeking a new ritual to perform before her daughter's bat mitzvah. It is a powerful motivator - praising children for good behaviour or good work builds self- esteem and self-confidence. Children love to collect stickers, certificates and rewards – so what better way is there to shape behaviour, encourage good work habits and produce confident learners? Teachers and parents alike know that praise is effective – we use it every day and we see the positive effect that it has on our children. However, constructivist practitioners would argue that praise in any form creates hierarchies and competition in the classroom, has little effect on genuine learning and is invasively judgemental rather than supportive. Often, praise is completely left out of our prayers to God. If we follow the example Jesus gave in Matthew 6:9-13, then praise should come first, yet finding the words to do this can be challenging. This book contains over five hundred praise words to help facilitate a more intimate knowledge of God, broadening our ability to praise Him specifically for His attributes. This book is a powerful transforming tool to be used in a daily walk with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Choose a word, then offer up a first fruit sacrifice of praise to God. If it is heartfelt and sincere, God will be pleased. You will be blessed because of the intimacy this creates. When we are praising, we are not controlling, we are releasing. Praise prayer is different because it removes the tendency to give orders to God that sounds something like, "please fix this," "change that," "don't do this," "give me that." Sometimes a defeated tone is present in our prayers, sounding like, "God, this is what I want, but your will be done, which is probably not my will, so I'm not sure how to pray." Praising God first can take away the need to control and the feeling of defeat by releasing it to God, focusing entirely on Him and His sovereignty in all circumstances. Praise God first. That's what we can do. God has got the rest. Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. (Heb. 13:15)

He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations, and men of every language worshiped him." Who was this "son of man," and what were these "clouds of heaven"? They could have been dark storm clouds of God's impending judgment or multitudes of heavenly angels. But there is one more "cloud" that I am the most interested in: "a great cloud of witnesses." They can testify to the world who this "Son of Man" is. He is "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews"! (See John 19:19.) Hebrews chapter 11 is the Bible's "Hall of Faith," recounting the names and deeds of all of the mighty saints of the Old Testament. The very next chapter begins with these words: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us" ... join the cloud (Hebrews 12:1ff., NIV). We also can be a part of this eternal "Kingdom of Praise." It includes "all peoples, nations, and men of every language" who will worship Jesus as their Lord and King. "Let us praise the Lord together, and exalt his name" (Psalm 34:3). Hallelujah!
