Book Synopsis Detection of Optical and Infrared Radiation by : R. H. Kingston
Download or read book Detection of Optical and Infrared Radiation written by R. H. Kingston and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text treats the fundamentals of optical and infrared detection in terms of the behavior of the radiation field, the physical properties of the detector, and the statistical behavior of the detector output. Both incoherent and coherent detection are treated in a unified manner, after which selected applications are analyzed, following an analysis of atmospheric effects and signal statistics. The material was developed during a one-semester course at M.I.T. in 1975, revised and presented again in 1976 at Lincoln Laboratory, and rewritten for publication in 1977. Chapter 1 reviews the derivation of Planck's thermal radiation law and also presents several fundamental concepts used throughout the text. These include the three thermal distribution laws (Boltzmann, Fermi-Dirac, Bose Einstein), spontaneous and stimulated emission, and the definition and counting of electromagnetic modes of space. Chapter 2 defines and analyzes the perfect photon detector and calculates the ultimate sensitivity in the presence of thermal radiation. In Chapter 3, we turn from incoherent or power detection to coherent or heterodyne detection and use the concept of orthogonal spatial modes to explain the antenna theorem and the mixing theorem. Chapters 4 through 6 then present a detailed analysis of the sensitivity of vacuum and semiconductor detectors, including the effects of amplifier noise.
Book Synopsis Power Quality Measurement and Analysis Using Higher-Order Statistics by : Olivia Florencias-Oliveros
Download or read book Power Quality Measurement and Analysis Using Higher-Order Statistics written by Olivia Florencias-Oliveros and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-11-04 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: POWER QUALITY MEASUREMENT AND ANALYSIS USING HIGHER-ORDER STATISTICS Help protect your network with this important reference work on cyber security Power quality (PQ) in electrotechnical systems refers to a set of characteristics related to the movement of energy and the delivery of voltage to consumers in the highest standard. As electricity networks change and adapt to new technologies and concepts of energy within a future Smart Grid, it has become clear that standardized methods by which stability and accuracy of electrical service along a network are currently measured are no longer enough to solve inherent issues in service and ensure established requirements are met. Power Quality Measurement and Analysis using Higher-Order Statistics reflects the latest information related to PQ (Power Quality) analysis solutions, particularly that related to the implementation of new quality indices in the domain of higher-order statistics (HOS). The authors—noted experts on the topic—carefully address the detection of PQ problems from two perspectives: the detection of specific events that occur on networks in isolation and continuous monitoring detection. In doing so, the authors demonstrate the use of HOS in current waveform models, enabling the characterization of different power circuit topologies and loads. This book thereby expertly explores the benefits of using HOS, bridging the gap between signal processing and power, and building a better understanding for readers. Power Quality Measurement and Analysis using Higher-Order Statistics readers will also find: A unique methodology for PQ analysis through its combination of HOS and PQ monitoring A proposal for new measurement solutions that can be easily implemented into modern instrumentation The detection of PQ problems from multiple perspectives The use of HOS in current waveform models, which enables the characterization of different power circuit topologies and loads Pitched at a specialized level, Power Quality Measurement and Analysis is an essential reference for researchers, academics, and industry insiders, as well as advanced students in this field.

Book Synopsis The Expressive Powers of Law by : Richard H. McAdams
Download or read book The Expressive Powers of Law written by Richard H. McAdams and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2015-02-09 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do people obey the law? Law deters crime by specifying sanctions, and because people internalize its authority. But Richard McAdams says law also generates compliance through its expressive power to coordinate behavior (traffic laws) and inform beliefs (smoking bans)—that is, simply by what it says rather than what it sanctions.

Book excerpt: This book focuses on the techniques of artificial intelligence that are mainly used in the power electronics field for the optimization of lost vehicle power. With the intention of optimizing the powerful energy of the vehicles and producing reliable energy, the most efficient methods, algorithms, and strategies of ethical artificial intelligence (AI) are being applied. By employing machine learning methods, the optimization of power energy in vehicles can be quickly recovered and managed efficiently. In today’s bustling world, power energy is indispensable for progress, yet in congested Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs), vehicles often face power depletion and decreased efficiency. This book explores these challenges, encompassing not only power but also other critical power electronics within vehicles. We aim to introduce innovative approaches, leveraging ethical AI methods, to optimize energy performance in the face of these difficulties. Through this exploration, we seek to provide practical insights into navigating congested VANET environments while upholding ethical principles in technological advancements. Our book will discuss the current power energy concerns faced by vehicles and also contribute a novel strategy to overcome those concerns. The employment of ethical AI in vehicular power energy will undoubtedly improve the effectiveness and production of vehicles.

Book Synopsis Maritime Strategy for Medium Powers by : Rear Admiral J.R. Hill
Download or read book Maritime Strategy for Medium Powers written by Rear Admiral J.R. Hill and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-05-30 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, first published in 1986, argues that there is a special category of medium powers in the world – such as Britain, France, India, Brazil, Japan, China and others – which have sufficient military power to do something to protect their interests but which are not a match for the superpowers. It surveys the whole range of naval warfare – equipment, operations, organisation and deployment – and discusses how each item should be tailored by the recognition of the position of the medium power. It considers alliances, a key element for medium powers, and explores how these should be handled and what use they may be expected to fulfil. The book argues that the concept of medium power, here developed thoroughly for the first time, will be extremely useful to many countries in defining their strategic role in a purposeful way.
