Die Verzahnung der beiden Disziplinen in Praxis und Wissenschaft ist jedoch unterschiedlich stark fortgeschritten: In der universitären Ausbildung hat Deutschland zwar mit den erfolgreichen Studiengängen des Wirtschaftsingenieurwesens einen Schritt in die integrale Verbindung vollzogen; in der Forschung stehen die beiden Disziplinen aber noch unvernetzt nebeneinander und die wissenschaftliche Verankerung fehlt. Der Interdisziplinarität in der Lehre fehlt somit die eigenständige wissenschaftliche und methodische Fundierung. Aus diesem Grund hat das acatech Themennetzwerk Produktentwicklung und Produktion am 9. Januar 2013 einen Workshop mit Vertretern der Ingenieur und Wirtschaftswissenschaften durchgeführt, auf dem Erfolgspotenziale einer Forschungsdisziplin Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen diskutiert und Empfehlungen für die Zukunft abgeleitet wurden. Die Ergebnisse werden in der acatech DISKUSSION vorgestellt.
