Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cedric Alessandro Chambers is a Hispanic American author and oil painter. "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog" is a book about Chambers's debut dual person art show, and "Phenomena of paint" is a reference to Dagmar Nickerson's body of work. Chambers approaches the subject in a meta-modern context, he uses fine art techniques to re-interpret rather than to re-create famous works of art. This method is what separates Chambers's artwork from postmodern interpretations of famous paintings such as Marcel Duchamp's Mona Lisa with a mustache. Chambers states in the accompanying show catalog that art should be a genuine embodiment of the Zeitgeist, a Hegelian word for "spirit of the time." As a Colorado resident who drives a Subaru, Chambers believes that his passion to paint portraits of his dog Coco is a genuine expression of Colorado Culture. Where residents are known to obsess over their dogs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Isn't that- The impressionist Netop? Yes. I love his work! Who doesn't? Do you think-could I get his autograph? Time and again, Jacqueline Karch overhears the words-soft and hesitant, loud and bracing...always curious about the painter at her side. An artist in her own right, Karch crouches on her heels beside him, selecting his colors, exchanging one brush for another. "That's all I do," she says. "In every other aspect, Netop is totally protective of his paintings. He won't let me touch his canvas until it's completed. He's quite the divo." And why not? Netop has created his own art form. Call it neo-impressionism, abstract, modern, or canine-ism; it all stems from a dog's perspective. "His name," Karch explains, "comes from an Algonquin/Narragansett word meaning my friend. The early colonists used Netop (pronounced NEE-top) in greeting when meeting Native Americans." But it has of late come to mean artist, canine artist. Netop has created a singular niche-and he has a following. And when he's done, Netop is all dog-lolling on the floor, begging for a belly rub, flopped on the couch...content then, to be canine companion. Celebrity is great, but having a home is greater. Is that him? Yes. Netop...Dog. Artist. Friend.

Download or read book The Dog written by Tamsin Pickeral and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Written by a specialist in both art and animal husbandry, the book begins with the earliest known representations of the dog, including sculptures and paintings of dramatic vitality. It goes on to examine the various roles the dog has played in both art and society, including its depiction as a symbol of fidelity and romantic love; as a prized possession, vaunting its owner's power and wealth; as a treasured and loyal pet; as a mythological being, mysteriously travelling between the lands of the living and the dead; as a religious image of purity, or dissolution; and as an indispensable working and hunting companion." "The book concludes with an examination of the ways in which modern artists have interpreted the image of the dog, and reaffirms the profound and unbreakable bond between humans and these complex creatures, which ensures that the dog will continue to exert a powerful fascination for artists as they strive to capture the soulful and beguiling character of man's best friend."--BOOK JACKET.
