Book Synopsis Airport Ground Access Mode Choice Models by : Geoffrey David Gosling
Download or read book Airport Ground Access Mode Choice Models written by Geoffrey David Gosling and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2008 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis extends previous efforts to document the state of practice for airport ground access mode choice models. It examines the characteristics of existing models and discusses the issues involved in the development and use of such models to improve the understanding and acceptance of their role in airport planning and management. Information presented in this report may be of interest to a range of airport managers, airport and regional transportation planners, consultants and transportation modeling specialists, and researchers interested in issues involving airport ground access mode choice. For this synthesis, a comprehensive review of the relevant literature was undertaken. To document the extent of the recent use of airport ground access mode choice models and to identify sources of technical documentation on existing models, this literature review was supplemented by a survey of airport authorities, metropolitan planning organizations, consulting firms and research organizations, and other government agencies and industry organizations. Follow-up communications by telephone and e-mail were made where necessary.

Book excerpt: With the number of airplane passengers using U.S. airports expected to grow to 1 billion by the year 2015, ground access to U.S. airports has become an important factor in the development of our nation's transport. networks. Increases in the number of passengers traveling to & from airports will place greater strains on our nation's airport access roads & airport capacity, which can have a number of negative economic & social effects. This report addresses the development of intermodal capabilities at U.S. airports, incl.: (1) the roles of different levels of gov't. & the private sector; (2) the extent to which such facilities have been developed; (3) benefits, costs, & barriers to such development; & (4) strategies to improve these capabilities. Book Synopsis Exploring Airport Employee Commute and Parking Strategies by : Diane M. Ricard
Download or read book Exploring Airport Employee Commute and Parking Strategies written by Diane M. Ricard and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Airport employees are vital to the operation of an airport. They staff the airport on a daily basis from well before the first flight operation until after the last flight operation, which at many airports is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Airport employees generate a significant number of vehicle trips to and from the airport each day, which impacts air quality, airport traffic conditions, and traffic in the communities surrounding the airport and on the freeway system. The purpose of this report was to determine what is known about airport employee commute patterns and commute modes, what programs are being offered to airport employees by the airport operator or a transportation management association (TMA) to provide them with alternatives to the drive alone commute to work, how progress is being monitored, what is known about the effectiveness of airport employee commute options (ECO) programs, what the challenges are for the providers of such programs, and to research some ECO programs offered by non-airport employers for program elements that may have applicability in the airport environment. This report was accomplished through a literature search of airport employee commute programs, commute programs offered by non-airport employers that may have applicability in the airport environment, and through interviews with four U.S. and one U.K. airport operators (of 16 airports and 3 TMAs identified, 84 percent interviewed) that offer comprehensive airport ECO programs. Each of the five case studies provides an example of how ECO strategies are applied in the airport environment.
