This book was released on 2007-03-05 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As nanomaterials get smaller, their properties increasingly diverge from their bulk material counterparts. Written from a materials science perspective, Adsorption and Diffusion in Nanoporous Materials describes the methodology for using single-component gas adsorption and diffusion measurements to characterize nanoporous solids. Concise, yet comprehensive, the book covers both equilibrium adsorption and adsorption kinetics in dynamic systems in a single source. It presents the theoretical and mathematical tools for analyzing microporosity, kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport processes of the adsorbent surface. Then it examines how these measurements elucidate structural and morphological characteristics of the materials. Detailed descriptions of the phenomena include diagrams, essential equations, and fully derived, concrete examples based on the author's own research experiences and insight. The book contains chapters on statistical physics, dynamic adsorption in plug flow bed reactors, and the synthesis and modification of important nanoporous materials. The final chapter covers the principles and applications of adsorption for multicomponent systems in the liquid phase. Connecting recent advances in adsorption characterization with developments in the transport and diffusion of nanoporous materials, this book is ideal for scientists involved in the research, development, and applications of new nanoporous materials.

Download or read book Carbon Nanomaterial-Based Adsorbents for Water Purification written by Suprakas Sinha Ray and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-06-27 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The deterioration of water quality and unavailability of drinkable water are pressing challenges worldwide. The removal of toxic organic and inorganic pollutants from water is vital for a clean environment, as a response to water scarcity. Adsorption-based water technologies are among the most widely used because of their high efficiency and low cost, without relying on a complex infrastructure. In recent years, carbon nanomaterials (CNMs), such as graphene and derivatives, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, nanoporous carbon, fullerenes, graphitic carbon nitride, and nanodiamonds have been extensively exploited as adsorbents due to their extraordinary surface properties, ease of modification, large surface area, controlled structural varieties, high chemical stability, porosity, low density, ease of regeneration, and reusability. This book provides a thorough overview of the state of the art in carbon nanomaterials as they are used for adsorption applications in water purifications, as well as addressing their toxicological challenges. This volume primarily explores the fundamentals of adsorption, its mechanical aspects, synthesis and properties of CNMs, and adsorption performances of CNMs and their nanocomposites with organic and inorganic materials. Structural engineering and activation processes produce materials with enhanced adsorptive properties and separation efficiencies. Furthermore, the formation of CNMs with 2D and 3D macro-and microstructures and high porosities is a potential approach to improve adsorption performances and extend CNM use at the industrial level. The book also addresses important issues regarding these adsorbents that potentially affect future research and industrial applications of carbon-based nanoadsorbents in water security. Presents advances in multifunctional 3D superstructures of carbon nanomaterials and their composites for adsorption applications Outlines the fundamentals on synthesis and characterization techniques of carbon-based nanostructures and their composites Assesses the major toxicological challenges in using nanostructured materials as adsorbents for water purification

Conventional approaches as well as the new approach using Maxwell-Stefan equations are presented. Various methods to measure diffusivity, such as the Differential Adsorption Bed (DAB), the time lag, the diffusion cell, chromatography, and the batch adsorber methods are also covered by the book. It can be used by lecturers and engineers who wish to carry out research in adsorption. A number of programming codes written in MatLab language are included so that readers can use them directly to better understand the behavior of single and multicomponent adsorption systems.
Book Synopsis Gas Transport in Porous Media by : Clifford K. Ho
Download or read book Gas Transport in Porous Media written by Clifford K. Ho and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-10-07 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CLIFFORD K. HOAND STEPHEN W. WEBB Sandia National Laboratories, P. O. Box 5800, Albuquerque, NM 87185, USA Gas and vapor transport in porous media occur in a number of important applications includingdryingofindustrialandfoodproducts,oilandgasexploration,environm- tal remediation of contaminated sites, and carbon sequestration. Understanding the fundamental mechanisms and processes of gas and vapor transport in porous media allows models to be used to evaluate and optimize the performance and design of these systems. In this book, gas and vapor are distinguished by their available states at stan- ? dard temperature and pressure (20 C, 101 kPa). If the gas-phase constituent can also exist as a liquid phase at standard temperature and pressure (e. g. , water, ethanol, toluene, trichlorothylene), it is considered a vapor. If the gas-phase constituent is non-condensable at standard temperature and pressure (e. g. , oxygen, carbon di- ide, helium, hydrogen, propane), it is considered a gas. The distinction is important because different processes affect the transport and behavior of gases and vapors in porous media. For example, mechanisms specific to vapors include vapor-pressure lowering and enhanced vapor diffusion, which are caused by the presence of a g- phase constituent interacting with its liquid phase in an unsaturated porous media. In addition, the “heat-pipe” exploits isothermal latent heat exchange during evaporation and condensation to effectively transfer heat in designed and natural systems.
