Book Synopsis Point Estimation of Root Finding Methods by : Miodrag Petkovic
Download or read book Point Estimation of Root Finding Methods written by Miodrag Petkovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-05-29 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book sets out to state computationally verifiable initial conditions for predicting the immediate appearance of the guaranteed and fast convergence of iterative root finding methods. Attention is paid to iterative methods for simultaneous determination of polynomial zeros in the spirit of Smale's point estimation theory, introduced in 1986. Some basic concepts and Smale's theory for Newton's method, together with its modifications and higher-order methods, are presented in the first two chapters. The remaining chapters contain the recent author's results on initial conditions guaranteing convergence of a wide class of iterative methods for solving algebraic equations. These conditions are of practical interest since they depend only on available data, the information of a function whose zeros are sought and initial approximations. The convergence approach presented can be applied in designing a package for the simultaneous approximation of polynomial zeros.

Book Synopsis Polynomial and Matrix Computations by : Dario Bini
Download or read book Polynomial and Matrix Computations written by Dario Bini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our Subjects and Objectives. This book is about algebraic and symbolic computation and numerical computing (with matrices and polynomials). It greatly extends the study of these topics presented in the celebrated books of the seventies, [AHU] and [BM] (these topics have been under-represented in [CLR], which is a highly successful extension and updating of [AHU] otherwise). Compared to [AHU] and [BM] our volume adds extensive material on parallel com putations with general matrices and polynomials, on the bit-complexity of arithmetic computations (including some recent techniques of data compres sion and the study of numerical approximation properties of polynomial and matrix algorithms), and on computations with Toeplitz matrices and other dense structured matrices. The latter subject should attract people working in numerous areas of application (in particular, coding, signal processing, control, algebraic computing and partial differential equations). The au thors' teaching experience at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and at the University of Pisa suggests that the book may serve as a text for advanced graduate students in mathematics and computer science who have some knowledge of algorithm design and wish to enter the exciting area of algebraic and numerical computing. The potential readership may also include algorithm and software designers and researchers specializing in the design and analysis of algorithms, computational complexity, alge braic and symbolic computing, and numerical computation.

Book Synopsis Spectra and Pseudospectra by : Lloyd N. Trefethen
Download or read book Spectra and Pseudospectra written by Lloyd N. Trefethen and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2005-08-07 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pure and applied mathematicians, physicists, scientists, and engineers use matrices and operators and their eigenvalues in quantum mechanics, fluid mechanics, structural analysis, acoustics, ecology, numerical analysis, and many other areas. However, in some applications the usual analysis based on eigenvalues fails. For example, eigenvalues are often ineffective for analyzing dynamical systems such as fluid flow, Markov chains, ecological models, and matrix iterations. That's where this book comes in. This is the authoritative work on nonnormal matrices and operators, written by the authorities who made them famous. Each of the sixty sections is written as a self-contained essay. Each document is a lavishly illustrated introductory survey of its topic, complete with beautiful numerical experiments and all the right references. The breadth of included topics and the numerous applications that provide links between fields will make this an essential reference in mathematics and related sciences.

Book Synopsis Compact Numerical Methods for Computers by : John C. Nash
Download or read book Compact Numerical Methods for Computers written by John C. Nash and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-01-01 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second edition of Compact Numerical Methods for Computers presents reliable yet compact algorithms for computational problems. As in the previous edition, the author considers specific mathematical problems of wide applicability, develops approaches to a solution and the consequent algorithm, and provides the program steps. He emphasizes useful applicable methods from various scientific research fields, ranging from mathematical physics to commodity production modeling. While the ubiquitous personal computer is the particular focus, the methods have been implemented on computers as small as a programmable pocket calculator and as large as a highly parallel supercomputer. New to the Second Edition Presents program steps as Turbo Pascal code Includes more algorithmic examples Contains an extended bibliography The accompanying software (available by coupon at no charge) includes not only the algorithm source codes, but also driver programs, example data, and several utility codes to help in the software engineering of end-user programs. The codes are designed for rapid implementation and reliable use in a wide variety of computing environments. Scientists, statisticians, engineers, and economists who prepare/modify programs for use in their work will find this resource invaluable. Moreover, since little previous training in numerical analysis is required, the book can also be used as a supplementary text for courses on numerical methods and mathematical software.
