Book Synopsis Creating an Excellent School by : Hedley Beare
Download or read book Creating an Excellent School written by Hedley Beare and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1989. The pursuit of excellence is much discussed with reference to education, but the question remains, ’How can a school become excellent?’ This book demonstrates that excellence depends on good management which, in turn, depends not only on a clear understanding of good management theory, but on the ability to translate theory into practice. The authors offer profound insights into three crucial areas of leadership: culture, structure, and public accountability. Drawing on areas outside education, such as advertising and business, they discuss many innovations that are already current - flexitime, the vertical curriculum, mastery learning, community support - and depict ways in which these can be brought together into a total educational experience. More strikingly, however, they look ahead, examining the potential changes to our concept of schooling: for instance those brought about by the growth of information technology. This book emphasises that at the heart of outstanding schooling are visionary leadership, a clear sense of purpose, and creatively conceived and flexible support structures.

Download or read book Society, Schools and Progress in Nigeria written by L. J. Lewis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Society, Schools and Progress in Nigeria is one of a mutually supporting series of books on SOCIETY, SCHOOLS AND PROGRESS in a number of important countries or regions. Nigeria makes a good field of study for several reasons. As Africans, the Nigerians are closely scrutinized by neighbors throughout the huge continent. A hitherto underdeveloped people, they are helping to lead the rapid development of more than 2000 million people who have until now been in a similar position. Inevitably, therefore, their use and modification of previously unquestioned instruments of education seem likely to bring challenges (perhaps enlightenment) to educators everywhere. The book opens with an overview of Nigeria and its people. This is followed by separate chapters on the development of modern education in the country from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries, administration, the school system, family influences, and background social forces. The series is intended to serve students of sociology, government and politics, as well as education.

This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2019 in the subject Politics - Basics and General, grade: 1, , language: English, abstract: The 2019 Presidential election of Nigeria was like a coup against the Nigerian people by the political elites that hold the resources of state. Families mourned 47 members killed during the ill-fated Nigerian Presidential elections of 2019 and many voters were disenfranchised. The so-called election results did not in any way reflect the votes and will of the Nigerian people home and abroad. After stealing the people’s mandate, losers are urged to go to court by the purported winner. Votes were burnt in the presence of police officers. Returning officers were forced to write results at gun point. Government officials were seen using soldiers to intimidate and kill Nigerians. People were killed in broad daylight by the same forces of darkness that have truncated the destiny of Nigeria.

Book Synopsis The Politics of Polio in Northern Nigeria by : Elisha P. Renne
Download or read book The Politics of Polio in Northern Nigeria written by Elisha P. Renne and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2010-07-30 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2008, Northern Nigeria had the greatest number of confirmed cases of polio in the world and was the source of outbreaks in several West African countries. Elisha P. Renne explores the politics and social dynamics of the Northern Nigerian response to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which has been met with extreme skepticism, subversion, and the refusal of some parents to immunize their children. Renne explains this resistance by situating the eradication effort within the social, political, cultural, and historical context of the experience of polio in Northern Nigeria. Questions of vaccine safety, the ability of the government to provide basic health care, and the role of the international community are factored into this sensitive and complex treatment of the ethics of global polio eradication efforts.

Book Synopsis History of Education in Nigeria by : A. Babs Fafunwa
Download or read book History of Education in Nigeria written by A. Babs Fafunwa and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1974, a comprehensive history of Nigerian Education, from early times right through to the time of publication, had long been needed by all concerned with Education in Nigeria, students, teachers and educational administrators. No one was better qualified than Professor Fafunwa to provide such a book, and in doing so he gave due emphasis to the beginnings of Education in its three main stages of indigenous, Muslim and Christian Education. Nigerian Education had been considered all too often as a comparatively recent phenomenon, but this book points out from the start that ‘Education is as old as Man himself in Africa’ and that both Islam and Christianity were comparative newcomers in the field. A historical treatment of these three strands which have combined to make up the modern Educational system was vital to a clear understanding of what was needed for the future, and most of the first half of the book is concerned with these Educational beginnings. The imposing of a foreign colonial system on this framework did not always lead to a happy fusion of the systems, and the successes and the failures are examined in detail. There was no shortage of documentary evidence in the form of reports and statistics during the decades prior to publication, but this evidence was frequently scattered and inaccessible to the student, so that the author’s careful selection of key evidence and reports, often drawn from his own personal experience, will be invaluable for those wishing to trace the development of Education in Nigeria up to the early 1970s. A knowledge of the history and development of the Nigerian Education system, of the numerous and intensely varied personalities and beliefs which have combined and often conflicted to shape it, is indispensable to all students in colleges and universities studying to become teachers. It is this knowledge that Professor Fafunwa set out to provide, drawing on his wide experience as teacher writer and educationalist.
