There was one problem for James, the day he had his passport photo taken, a gust of strong wind placed a wave shape in the centre of his hair. Just as they were about to start their holidays in Honiara, a criminal named Chicken Hair and his brutal stand over man called No Name began to leave a trail of bodies. On their trail is a local Police Inspector of the Royal Solomon Islands Police. Inspector Chris believes he also should be in charge instead of an Australian sent to maintain order after the 2006 conflict. While Inspector Chris is trying to solve the brutal murders, Brain and James have several bad hygienic moments when they are intoxicated with a few native women. At one stage the two wished they had holidayed on the Gold Coast. James did have an advantage when their holiday turned sour. There was a traditional tale that a white man with strange hair and spoke different English would one day find and return the missing Golden Malaita Eagle. Brian and James were transported by coastal trader to a cloud covered volcanic Island. On this unusual island where the natives are either half Asian or half Caucasian, James is treated like a god till alcohol ruins the tribe’s chance of becoming pure native again. Now the adventure

Book excerpt: In this witty, incisive guide to critical thinking the author provides you with the tools to allow you to question beliefs and assumptions held by those who claim to know what they’re talking about. These days there are many people whom we need to question: politicians, lawyers, doctors, teachers, clergy members, bankers, car salesmen, and your boss. This book will empower you with the ability to spot faulty reasoning and, by asking the right sorts of questions, hold people accountable not only for what they believe but how they behave. By using this book you’ll learn to analyze your own thoughts, ideas, and beliefs, and why you act on them (or don’t). This, in turn, will help you to understand why others might hold opposing views. And the best way to change our own or others’ behavior or attitudes is to gain greater clarity about underlying motives and thought processes. In a media-driven world of talking heads, gurus, urban legends, and hype, learning to think more clearly and critically, and helping others to do the same, is one of the most important things you can do.

Book Synopsis Uncomfortably Numb by : R. Hartley Hammond
Download or read book Uncomfortably Numb written by R. Hartley Hammond and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-06-21 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A weary, middle-aged professional, risks it all resulting in an unexpected journey. Author Richard Hammond does not like to live in the past. Instead, he is a here-and-now kind of guy who tries to stay optimistic, even during the darkest times. Always one to embrace change and take risks, Richard takes stock of his life and shares what he has learned with others. This is the story of his adventurous journey through life, his takeaway lessons, and how he taught himself to look beyond the confines of his own reality in order to reach for the stars. As Hammond shares the poignant, sometimes humorous story of his life to date, he provides a glimpse into the after-effects of the 2008 financial crisis that caused him to make an unforeseen move from working a lucrative job in corporate America to cleaning dog kennels. With a tongue-in-cheek style, Hammond details how his life slowly disintegrated from days filled with mental stimulation to days filled with trips to Walmart and caring for his ailing mother. As he contemplates his uncertain future, Hammond reminisces about his childhood innocence, his coming-of-age journey into adulthood, and how he ended up on a road heading in the wrong direction. Uncomfortably Numb is the story of one mans walk through an unpredictable existence where he soon discovers that no one can recreate the second chapter in his life but him.

Seanna Flynn is the head of the multi-cultural, multi-racial, mostly aggravating Flynn clan who have controlled the politics and the economy of Maybelline since before the Civil War, when Maybelline Hancock Flynn opened the “Finest whorehouse east of New Orleans.” Seanna’s “cousin,” Sheriff’s Captain Elroy Flynn, is in charge of the murder investigation, and Seanna cannot keep her pretty nose out of his business. Her curiosity uncovers more mysteries than just the murder and results in Seanna becoming the target of the killer. Is the adventuress who inherited Pepper’s estate the late realtor’s love child? If so, who is the father? Who committed a decades-old murder that set Pepper on her way to riches? Handsome Irish hunk Drieu O’Bannon sees Seanna as a target of another sort. The Hibernian charmer is determined to win her love while trying to keep her safe from the clutches of a killer. The Last of the Real McCoy is a fast-paced, sexy, and often funny mystery. Download or read book Assholes written by Aaron James and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2012-10-30 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the spirit of the mega-selling On Bullshit, philosopher Aaron James presents a theory of the asshole that is both intellectually provocative and existentially necessary. What does it mean for someone to be an asshole? The answer is not obvious, despite the fact that we are often personally stuck dealing with people for whom there is no better name. Try as we might to avoid them, assholes are found everywhere—at work, at home, on the road, and in the public sphere. Encountering one causes great difficulty and personal strain, especially because we often cannot understand why exactly someone should be acting like that. Asshole management begins with asshole understanding. Much as Machiavelli illuminated political strategy for princes, this book finally gives us the concepts to think or say why assholes disturb us so, and explains why such people seem part of the human social condition, especially in an age of raging narcissism and unbridled capitalism. These concepts are also practically useful, as understanding the asshole we are stuck with helps us think constructively about how to handle problems he (and they are mostly all men) presents. We get a better sense of when the asshole is best resisted, and when he is best ignored—a better sense of what is, and what is not, worth fighting for.
